I was lucky enough to be given a load of old QPR footage from QPR fan Rik Anstee so am slowly putting it all online, a lot of games that I don't think have been seen before likes of South Shields, several games against Arsenal, Liverpool and Man Utd from the 70's, a 6-1 cup win over West Ham.
I'll keep them all on the same thread but going to be putting up one a day over the next few weeks.
First one is from 1968, our second ever win in the top flight against Sheffield Wednesday

QPR v Sheffield Wednesday, my first ever QPR game, my brother took me and treated us to a seat in the Ellerslie Road stand!
My first game too. Put at the front of the School end. 3-0 up then Wednesday get a couple back and i remember my brother snd all around whistling for the end of the game. Seems as long ago now as it is.

The crowd noise sounds like the Tardis in full flight
yeah I tried using current crowd noise from more recent games to fix it but pig bag gave it away a bit, the sound quality isn't great on a lot of these
Was standing in the Loft that match and what I remember Leighton James tore Phil Neal a new one. That last bit of the clip was where Neal fouled him to the extent that had it been today Neal would have been by the players tunnel before the ref would have had the chance to reach for his red card. Was a real surprise of a result with us struggling at the time.
Thanks so much for these Dave, the weight of nostalgia in these clips is almost too much. I struggle to remember things I may (or may not) have done earlier this year, but I am instantly transported back to the minutiae of my life around any of these games I went to.
Eg. that West Ham game was the first time any of us had seen QPR play with a sweeper and was my first sight of Paul Parker, still the best debut season I can remember. The single most consequential signing of the decade. And the best example of a "player trading model": buy cheap from the third tier, immediate success in the top tier, plays for England, is sold at huge profit to Man U. Perfect.
I also remember the night out after West Ham - a warehouse party in Wandsworth - everything about that early season run. What a time.
And that Cov game: that was a rotten team to support as a 10-year-old with his first season ticket. Three wins since September, going down from January and about to be confirmed against Cov. Still, I made my old man take me.
But even in that relentless gloom something beautiful occurred: Paul Goddard and Clive Allen, two teenagers from the youth suddenly appeared. Allen was 17! A hattrick on full top-level debut. Imagine what the coms team would make of that now...

How bad were the team at holding out and defending to not go up with those two up front scoring for fun?
When you consider the outlay on new players in that season, Chris Woods, Bob Hazell, David McCreery, Steve Wicks and Tony Currie and the players we already had, Shanksy, Ian Gillard, Glenn Roeder, Clive Allen, Paul Goddard, Stan they were certainly the basis of a team that should have bounced straight back up. Waddock came through that season too.
