Are we really that bad?
I spoke to many fans today who remember that team. The majority of them think we’re worse.

I may have Rose tinted glasses cause it was my last season back home. They were a dreadful team but the players kept turning up, not hiding with injuries. The problem is we have no leaders in the dressing room. The players aren't accountable to their peers. |  | | |

The big difference for me is that the 2000/1 team was full of players you wouldn't expect much more from except the up and coming Crouch. A poor team full of poor players. This current bunch are capable of and have shown so much better in the past, but have been an absolute disgrace for months now. What we're seeing at the moment is far more frustrating and shameful than 2000/1 and looks like ending the same way. |  | | |

In 2001, when we lost Langley and Carlisle in the space of a few minutes, I remember thinking that we were dead and buried even though we had so many games left.
Feels a bit like that with Chair and Willock in some ways. I know they are very different players to Clarke and Langers but they are both hugely influential within the matchday side in terms of how we play. Add to that the losses of Johanson and both starting fullbacks and I'm amazed we're still hanging on.
I am choosing to remain positive regarding our chances of staying up but I'm not expecting the remaining matches to be anything other than terrifying to behold. |  |

I don't know which one is worse. There's a fag paper's difference between them, as far as I can see.

As depressing as the current situation is, the 2000/01 'vintage' were far worse as it wasn't beset with injuries. There were some goddam awful footballers in that team and it stank of relegation long before the season ended. The current team, whilst not great, would benefit from the return of key players from injury plus 1 or 2 additions in midfield. |  | | |

Agree with that. The number of players currently out is unprecedented. I know the popular view is that they're all malingerers but I'm not sure there's much evidence for that.

Chelshite were near the top of the league in October 1987 and ended up getting relegated in a playoff.They went 25 games without a win. [Post edited 19 Mar 2023 15:05]

Haven't posted in ages but there are 2 posts on here I need to respond too.
1) The old timer who said he isn't renewing (the reaction to that is scandalous) but will choose to log on a laptop for that.
2) In answer to this question absolutely not!! As a 17 year old with a beautiful 1st girlfriend I decided to go to every game this season after a wonderful season before with Wardley and Co winning at WBA, Walsall, Blackburn, Ipswich, Man City, Swindon and Portsmouth etc
56 games, 2 away wins, 1 at Colchester one nil lost second leg, 1 at Gillingham either side of losing 5-0 at Preston and Wimbledon....don't compare the two unless you was there. | | | |

The saddest thing is having one of the worst teams in one of the best kits.

Yes. Millwall were top after 20 games in 95/96 in December and got relegated. They lost Mick McCarthy to the Ireland job in February 1996 and Jimmy Nicholl couldn't prevent them dropping. | |
