Which one?

When you reach the place beyond thoughts, the only thing you'll find is love and the only purpose of life becomes to ease the suffering of others.

Rumours online already started and that it is 3 months minimum.

Fingers crossed he's back ASAP.

And what do you think QPR are?

Poll: QPR to finish 7th or Brentford to drop out of the top 6?

Maybe glass half full but I thought he may be out for a lot longer when I saw him limp off.

That's how ridic it's getting at our club. One of the team's best players goes down with nobody around him during the first half of a game after being rested during the week, after three separate injuries the previous year, and we're delighted it's only another month.

I think it’s been a lot worse personally. I’m pretty happy with things currently

Sad to say but this feels like Willock mark II.

Time to plan without him long term and if he ever gets back to his best, consider it a bonus.

I was referring specifically to injuries/fitness.

Well yes, I would personally have made some changes on medical front. But at least team does seem fitter. We do seem to be maybe overly cautious, which I like, with Lamptey, Kamara, Cirkin, Madsen. True test will be where we are come January after that Christmas period.

Absolute choker because he's looked sharp, fit and lean over the last set of games.
Maybe we will see others step up Madsen/Vale - or an opportunity for Alemayehu to start playing a role...

Very annoying.

It’s another repeat injury too. We either have very bad luck or we’re not very good at rehabilitating muscle injuries…

It’d be good to hear from some trained physios as to whether repeat muscle injuries is common and to be expected of professional athletes.

I’m not a physio obviously but according to AI (I know, I know), a previous injury in elite footballers is a big predictor of future injuries in that part of the body. For example it triples the chances of a hamstring tear and ankle injuries loosen the ligaments making rolling the ankle more likely.

It particularly mentions coming back too soon and fixture congestion as risk factors in breaking down again. The other one is scar tissue making the area weaker than before the injury. Also not being at full strength affects the way the body moves putting more strain on and making re-injury more likely.

JS said he will be reassessed in the International break, not that he will be back at the end of it.

Maybe, just maybe, IC has an underlying and/or organic weakness in his calf muscle, for which the demands of being a professional athlete are stretching the muscle beyond its (reduced) capabilities.

Whether the issue is down to a misdiagnosis and/or poor rehab by QPR, is something we're unlikely to discover outside of a court case! However, before rushing to conclusions, the sad reality is that IC's problem, like countless athletes before him, might be down to the vicissitudes of human life.

That said, I do wonder if we'd accepted Wrexham's bid, would have passed their medical?

Poll: Who should do the Birmingham Frederick?

This isn't just a QPR problem, it is a football problem. We just seem to get hit badly because we're unfortunate for it to have affected our most influential players over the last two years.

in simple terms:
Football as a sport is anterior chain dominant. That means during actual play and pitch/ball training the quads, hip flexors, abs etc get more work, than the posterior chain (calves, hamstrings, glutes, lower back etc).

To offset that more gym strength and endurance work needs to be performed for the posterior chain. During fixture congestion this gym work reduces to prevent delayed onset muscle soreness impacting on performance. physios attempt to prescribe micro dosing work during these periods, but it is not as effective. Also during match schedules, players do less actual sprint training ( fast acceleration/deceleration), which means that despite matches they also become deconditioned to the forces required in short bursts.

Over the last two decades, as match intensity has increased, and playing schedules have become more condensed and congested, it is no surprise that calf and hamstrings injuries have doubled in elite football players, mostly due to inadequate conditioning and imbalance between the anterior and posterior chain.

This is why there is the need for squad depth and rotation to support the conditioning cycles during a season.

Also as is mentioned further up on the thread, once you have had a tear, even if the tear itself fully mends, and muscle strength and conditioning is back to 100%, scar tissue will have been generated. This scar tissue itself is not flexible and under excess violent force causes stress where the scar tissue anchors onto the flexible muscle fibres which increases the chance of a new tear. There are loading mechanisms to remodel the scar tissue to effectively remodel it along the lines of muscle action which will reduce the risk as well as lengthen and strengthen the muscle, change type of collagen in the scar tissue, and other aspects that can move the muscle back to almost complete recovery, unfortunately this processes take much much longer(3 to 12 months) than the 'clinical' recovery from the tear(3 to 6 weeks), which is why there's such a massive recurrence of such injuries in football players due to returning to play far quicker than the remodelling takes.

Swiss Cottage has pretty much nailed it but I’d still be inclined to get an expert in to examine our pitch.

Some of them do look fitter but we still have 5/6 players who can't play for more than an hour and can't do 2 games in a row plus have several missing altogether.
