Are you for real. Calvin should be nowhere near that team as the team sheet proved today.

I’m lost for words

How all 4 officials failed to see that blatant shove on Alby in the box beggars belief.

Its a BRILLIANT goal to cap a BRILLIANT start by Rochdale - Don Goodman 26/08/10

Well, it's not often you come away from a game with the feeling the ref did not want us to win but today ....

The worm of time turns not for the cuckoo of circumstance.

He awarded us a penalty which not every ref would've given. I think it's more a case of incompetence than bias - the Gill fans were having a go at him too

As someone else pointed out, there were far fewer games today so there must have been a fair number of "spare" refs around....How the hell do we get set up with yet another tosser (worse than Haines to book)?

Not usually one to hammer a ref, but he was absolutely fooking terrible, the inconsistency was amazing at times. I particularly enjoyed the multiple assaults on Lynch from any set piece that miraculously went "unnoticed",not to mention the shoves both on Hendo and Wilbraham that they all seemed to miss.

Then the boy Evans in his post match "wasn't sure" if the foul on RND was even inside the box, unless his pie got in the way of his vision I'm not sure what game he was actually watching.

Home win, surely? For the love of God, please. Gillingham home/away is possibly the least attractive fixture every season. Only a win can give a silver lining.

Yes,it is the least attractive game,or always was when I lived over there. So honestly, wouldn’t we all be happier if we were still playing Bury? Two eagerly awaited fixtures, full of local rivalry, one of us gaining rights going into the following season. Sadly,it will never happen again, but games with Gillingham will. Don’t care what anybody thinks, derby games are always the best.

Agree. playing Gillingham is a bit like playing a vicarage XI without meaning any disrespect to them...I expect they find fixtures against us just as exciting.

Back to games against New Brighton, Barrow, Southport, Halifax and BPA provided they get to our level and not vice versa.

Did we really need to start off playing 5 at the back with Ryan playing so deep it was effectively a back 6. No wonder we get in a mess passing it about at the back when most of the team is in our defensive third. The Wlbraham/Done substitutions changed the balance of the team, moving our positioning further up the pitch. Obviously at that stage their experience, and presence in Wilby's case, helped matters along, but any substitutions to put us on the front foot would have been better than what we started with. Felt sorry for Smith who made some good runs, tried putting himself into good positions only to get little if any support as the play was mostly 20 yards behind him, at best.

Even some of the smaller things really got to me. Gills would have a free kick and a couple of our players would get in the way to slow it down and the ref was screaming at them to get out of the way. But then we'd have a free kick with the same circumstances and he wouldn't do anything. The Ryan one stands out where he has to shout at the referee still nothing gets done so he ends up booting it at the gills player. And I'm still not sure the ref actually did anything.

It's not really a back 5.

The full backs push up often into the opposition half when one of the midfielders (MJ/Ryan) drops to form a back 3.

We have the benefits of a back 3 with wingbacks without needing to play a recognised centre back.

True but then it quickly becomes a back 6 or even 7. When those 4 can't play it out the wing backs have to drop to help recover and then also you normally end up with one of Keohane or Dooley also dropping to help out. Then the problem is the more that drop back the more up against it we are because the opposition can push more players forward.

When those 4 players manage to play it out bypassing 3 or 4 players it works great. At the moment it's not working often enough unfortunately.

Pity the post match interview didnt ask what our management thought of the officials. Might have faced an FA disrepute charge!!

Precisely, and with the back four we now have and Ryan in front, the additional man (unless extremely mobile, and MJW is anything but) is just a drag on the ability of the team to press the opposition in their own half - at home

From my angle the Wilbraham appeal simply looked like he had misjudged the header. You could tell from his and the Sandy's reaction that he had been fouled though and the replay shows just how bad a decision that was.

I actually thought the decision to not give a free-kick for the foul on Henderson was worse. He had two players at the back post to aim at who were completely unmarked, had he got the ball he'd have been in a much better position than having a free-kick on the edge of the area - so why would he go down?

Nobody has mentioned the advantages either - at least three times he gave Dale a free-kick as we were trying to play out from the back and just as the ball went into one of the midfielders and we had an opportunity to break away he blew up for a foul to allow the Gills players the chance to get behind the ball.

Just a ridiculous performance from the referee yesterday.

Tangled up in blue.

Yes, and at 31 and something of a chequered career it's unlikely anyone will be looking to prise him from our grasp

Not sure what his contract terms are, but he's turning into an absolute gem

Yes she loved it thanks, got her wrapped up and went in the the Pearl St,after a photo with Desmond at halftime and a new scarf she was made up,she actually said is there another game tomorrow!

Her assessment on the Gillingham players were "some players are sometimes not very nice" straight after the pen in front of us "number 40" was "the best one"

I don't really recall Gillingham as being traditional opponents.
Torquay and Exeter yes.
It might be my imagination but I seem to remember in the 1960's that we played more northern teams than southern ones?

Yesterday as actually our 50th game v Gillingham in all competitions - 44 league, 4 FA Cup & 2 play-offs.

When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?
