Having said that I have had a good caning for my sceptic views on here and there is also a massive support for the Board on SCFC 2.
I generally tend to agree with the majority viewpoint on most occasions but this time I feel the last 8 months have been a massive eff up by the Board with a few exceptions. I admire the unity shown and really hope all of you are right and we have yet another great season ahead of us. |  |

Having said that I have had a good caning for my sceptic views on here and there is also a massive support for the Board on SCFC 2.

The funny thing is that I think we don't necessarily need a CDM for 2 of those games. I could easily see us playing with Shelvey and Ki in CM against burnley and west brom. Like a similar formation to the one we had against reading (or Villarreal Saturday I'm guessing).
The only game I see us struggling without a CDM is man utd. And then both Leon and Fulton would be back for Chelsea. But I would still be happy if we did get another CDM. |  | | |

I don't think anyone could argue that the first 11 isn't better this season. It's the strength in depth that's worrying.
I seem to be doing these lists everyday, but we're currently at something like:
GK - Fabianski, Tremmel
RB - Rangel, Tiendalli
LB - Taylor, Kingsley
CB - Ash, Bartley
CB - Amat, ??
CM - Britton, Fulton
CM - Shelvey, Ki
AM - Gylfi, Emnes
W - Routledge, Montero
W - Dyer, Emnes
CF - Bony, Gomis
That's all our major first-team players. I've had to use Emnes to cover two positions and I don't even know who our 4th CB would be. If we have injuries or want to rotate the squad, we've got problems.
At the very least, we need another CB and someone who can cover AM/W. We should also be looking at a DM (especially with Britton and Fulton's injuries) and better cover at fullback.
I'm hopeful that the club are aware of this and deals are progressing to strengthen, they're just keeping things quiet. If some arrogance has set in, as others have suggested, and the club think this squad is deep enough right now, we're potentially in some trouble. I just don't think they can be that misguided.
If the transfer window closes without at LEAST 2 new players coming in, I will be shifting into the 'worried' camp. |

If we could add Fedrico Fernandez for the right price, he would be a good addition to team and a complementary center half to Ashley.
Here's what I observed last winter while we prepared to play Napoli -
"While Fernandez platoons with Britos, I consider him the better center back over Albiol. He's the primary target on corner kicks. He provides crisp, ball on the ground, passes for distance. Fernandez is a solid defender that is more apt to step up into the gap between the CB and DMs - he did this consistently to slow down Totti in the first Roma match. When Fernandez makes a steal and his first touch is to dribble into transition, it's a very loose touch. Swansea should immediately pressure before his first touch is taken to dispossess him and transition into an ill-formed defense. Fair do's Jacks I really admire you optimism. Not a dig. I am genuine in this statement. To me it seems the Spanish players either thought Monk was not up to the job or they have been driven out of the club. It looks like we are trying to take on the Premier league on the cheap. Our planning is terrible as Man U loom large and we still have not sorted out defensive midfield and defence. This despite Monk being in post to have this sorted in plenty of time for pre season preparation. It smacks of arrogance as well. This top flight lark is easy eh? This could be the work of geniuses. Football is a funny old game. I will happily eat humble pie. Bookmark me. If we are doing fine by November I will say I got it all wrong without reservation. |

^^^ This nicely summarises where we are at imo. The *team* looks ok, with Gylfi, Gomis and Montero very positive additions. We have slightly weakened the match *squad*, but with the addition of just 2 quality players we would be well-covered for all eventualities.
If Chico goes, we will be getting a decent replacement, I'm sure.
We've 4 wingers (I'm assuming Emnes will be used as a winger, which seems to be Monk's prefered use for him), so I can't see any movement there. JdG would finish the jigsaw in offering options behind the forward or alongside Leon, Ki or Shelvey in a deeper role. That would be my preference. But yes, a specialist DM water carrier would be another option here.
Fullbacks are finished as far as I can see. Yes, we would like better quality cover (for Angel), but there's no sign of that being in the offing.
More importantly, it's only a week to go!! Can't chuffin wait   | | | |
