If he used his one brain cell https://www.bloomberg.com/news "There were reports Wednesday that Dyson Ltd. has been asked to make 10,000 units for the government, but Slack cast doubt on this, saying none of the new models being offered had yet been approved for use." | Dyson on 09:28 - Mar 27 with 893 views | LeonWasGod | Dyson are just one player in all this, providing the airflow side of things. The Technology Partnership in Cambridge are the main design house apparently, Gtech also involved. The work's been done in consultation with Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency, so they expect approvals to be relatively quick. The govt confirmed none have been ordered yet though - they won't be until it's approved. No mention of the software side of things, nor the shortage trained staff that will be needed to operate it. The argument around why aren't existing ventilator designers/manufacturers involved does seem to be a fair one on the surface. Dyson/Gtech combined probably do have more manufacturing capacity than anyone else, but it sounds like companies with relevant expertise can also do more from what they've been saying. Difficult to avoid the conclusion that there is some back scratching going on. I hope this solves a shortfall with the hardware, I really do, but Tice's tweet is just misleading clickbait to appeal to the Brexiteer clapping seals. Seems to have done its job.
| Dyson on 21:11 - Mar 27 with 782 views | swan85 | Just reading a few comments on here. There are some incorrect comments, Dyson (whilst I don’t appreciate the guy and how his items are made abroad, but research is done here, an economy needs all types of jobs for different people, so bring back manufacturing please!) Dyson have not made these before, but they have the capability to produce. He is doing it at cost - doesn’t need to). Under government Procurement rules, this will be stipulated in the contract (not the cost but, he is allowed to make a profit, but declaring he won’t) and with high penalties for opportunistic pricing. This happens at time of “war”. Plus other companies that do make ventilators are getting contracts as well. It is the capacity and volume we need, hence they get contracts as well, but working their designs with Airbus, Mcclaren, GKN, Meggitt, Ford etc none of whom make ventilators but can scale production, as volume is what we and the world needs. Read the response to this crises that British industry is making compared to the damning remarks Trump is making about GM and others in the US. Now I know he damns everybody, but let’s give credit where credit is due , british industry is stepping up. I for one will buy a GTech in the future too. | | | |

There is some sterling work going on and some companies are stepping up to the mark, but as this article and the comments section identifies there are shortcomings in the way the government are doing things, partly I suspect as a result of having too many chiefs and not enough Indians. Someone should have sorted the Nantwich business out, if they had 500 ventilators and loads of PPE ready to go, they should have sorted it on the spot.

Kilk is trawling the internet day and night, to find anything to criticize the government's handling of the crisis. Tiresome in the extreme.

| Dyson on 21:31 - Mar 27 with 737 views | PozuelosSideys | People being pretty dim here. Governments all around the world are effectively panic buying ventilators. That will be hundreds of thousands, potentially millions of pieces of chunky equipment that needs to be sourced before it can even get to the factory line. Why put all your eggs in one basket? The comments above about who cares where they come from, just get them pronto are correct. I would imagine sourcing these quickly atm are just like trying to source bog roll a couple of weeks ago. On a separate note, the EU aparently asking the UK whether we wanted to take advantage of a greater purchasing power and pool in with them on the purchase of ventilators i found an interesting conundrum. Surely it would be cheaper, yes. But pooling lots of coutries together would surely slow delivery time down of teh required numbers of product? They need to be made in this country, so the likes of Dyson who have their factories here makes sense. Fcking same tools on thsi thread political point scoring again. | |

Dyson have never manufactured one and the amount of testing needed for it to be passed would slow the whole process down you tool.

Have General Motors or Ford's got a track record for manufacturing ventilators?

| Dyson on 10:17 - Mar 28 with 624 views | majorraglan | Not an expert in manufacturing, but I’d have thought the way forward would be to get an existing manufacturer to provide the spec and technical details for their product to someone like Dyson, Ford, Aston Martin and other companies who could then make the thing, or parts of it under licence. | | | |

No it's not. A British company has had an order for 30,000 ventilators cancelled without explanation in favour of Dyson
| Dyson on 16:10 - Mar 28 with 483 views | WxmJax | You mean this one ? https://www.worcesternews.co.u I farcking hate this government. I don't give a damn what colour the government is anymore but these are awful lying barsatds. I'm not even sure that Johnson or Hancock have the virus, everything is just so convenient. Thursday. The EU ventilator debacle...we're doing it our own way....we didn't know about it....there was a mis-communication....and then footage appears of Hancock on QT the week before saying they DID know about it. Then there is a huge outcry about no PPE for front line staff and hey presto, Johnson and Hancock are suddenly out of the picture. We were told that Johnson had been showing mild symptoms earlier that day so why was he standing right next to Sunak later on that same day ? It farcking stinks. | |

Given the type of business Dyson are and the products they actually make in mass numbers, i would suspect they would be able to turn these numbers around quickly, especially if the design is being fastracked as per the information being disclosed. The alternative is to take a ticket and get in the queue and wait for your number to be called in a few months. You utter inbred quim.

GTech make the same kind of stuff as a Dyson. It would have made sense to order a couple of thousand off several suppliers, with the prospect of big orders to follow if they worked. That would have guaranteed back up suppliers if for example Dyson’s product didn’t work properly and potentially a quicker lead in time.
