I don’t know what impression he’s giving the rest of you but I have to say that in the midst of this dilemma I’ve found him calm, measured and quietly impressive.

Just imagine with a different roll of the dice that could have been Diane Abbott stood there!

If Carlsberg did lucky escapes, eh?

Very much agree with you. But youre about to get slaughtered by the Comrades any second.

I’d be surprised if even the most blinkered Labour supporters haven’t come to appreciate him over this last couple of weeks.

Why is it always Diane Abbott that gets selected as an example of an incompetent alternative? In this case how would it have been her when she wasn't even shadow chancellor?

Why not "it could have been Chris Grayling stood there" for example?

He's become the "Poster Boy" for this government, and he's out performing everyone around him.

Everyday above ground ... Is a good day! 😎

Because she’s come to symbolise utter incompetence?

He is, but when the others are Raab, Grayling, Patel and Johnson the bar is set pretty low...

Or because she's an easy target for any situation, regardless of any actual reality.

How would it have been Diane Abbott in that situation?

Comes across really well, and finally delivered today....BUT, when all this is over, they will want the money back somehow.

He has ‘had a good war’ so far, with relatively plain and straightforward solutions and no over-complication - albeit it is easy to look good when writing cheques.

He may not be quite so comfortable when people start cashing them. Increased spending, revenue dropping as if off a cliff, and capital markets in hiatus. That’s when he can really earn his keep.

Yes very good.
It's great to see the Tories turning into socialists.

Socialism is a philosophy. Pretty sure having their hand forced into what amounts to a public bailout in a moment of national emergency doesnt amount to the Tory Party completely taking leave of their senses. That would be the Labour Party of the last few years.

You're right of course, it would have been McDonnell and by now the rich would be having houses compulsorily purchased to turn into Corona wards!

Loh, I said Sunak came across well the other day, him and Jenny Harries are both doing a good job

Neathy, if Grayling was up there now, in any role, we might as well have given up, he's totally useless.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

He's a prick.
Example - My neighbour, 43, has worked hard all his life. Never ever claimed a penny of any sorts.
He is a plasterer. He went self employed in January, spent his life savings of over £20,000 setting up the business. He has sensibly self isolated since the end of last week, not earning a penny.
Now, unless he works, he will get sweet fa.
So I would guess his van will be gone in the morning. Like hundreds of thousands of other vans.
They have to do it.

So don't praise Sunak people, he is the reason people will go out to earn a crust.

It would have been better to pay everyone, self employed, and employed, exactly the same, even minimum wage.

So only socialism works at a time of crisis.
I'm not complaining happy to see some of the country's riches helping
The less well off.
It's all well and good Boris and Matt Hancock wearing NHS badges on tv.
But it's their party that has underfunded it for the last 10 yrs ,and stop the nurses bursaries .

Example 2.

A friend set up as a window cleaner last summer. He bought a van and equipment , spent around £15,000. Another who won't get anything.
He is livid. I can see him going out to work now, as he will have bills to pay.
He was working up until last Friday, but stopped as he was pressured by locals not to, which he understood.

So another who thinks Sunday and Johnson are pricks.
