I remember John Menzies for records - top Woolies as well.

And of course we had one of the early Virgin record shops on Union Street and Derrick’s on Oxford Street.

And Musiquarium for the more discerning.

I can remember David Evans having the booths with headphones, so you could listen to the latest releases before buying.

You give it out, you take it back it`s all part of the game

Eddershaws, Treasure, ‘top’ Woolworths and ‘bottom’ Woolworths, BHS, M&S, C&A, Debenhams, Chelsea Girl , Etams n the Quadrant, Eynons, Benetton (the mothership for us when we were teenagers), Principles (which was definitely posh back in the day), My Father’s Moustache, David Evans, JT Morgan, Dylans’s bookshop in Salubrious Passage, Duck Son and Pinker, John Ham’s and Picton Music, Uplands Book Shop.

Swansea was fantastic for shopping back in the day.

Mrs J2J worked in a number of shops you mention there, including Duck Son and Pinker(Record Dept) on Union Street, she worked there until it's closure in October 1984

No way!

I loved that shop. And lived in there.

Because I learnt piano and guitar etc I’d always get my sheet music from Duck Son & Pinker. And they had the best selection of classical music records in there. I used to go in there to play their pianos as well.

Often used to go in with my Grandad before we went to the Swans.

my memory may be unreliable but I remember there being 2 shops called Eddershaws?

A furniture shop and a smaller toy shop

my mum would drag me round town through the unbearably boring BHS, Fine fare and Co op, then when she said let s go to eddershaws my little heart would jump at the thought of some new hot wheels or action man accessories. Unfortunately it usually meant she wanted to look at chairs and sofas.

Pretty sure I had my first bike bought for me there, blue Raleigh chopper it was .
Eddershaws was on Oxford Street, not sure where exactly, think it was roughly opposite the old Woolworths, maybe slightly further down the street.

Yes she worked there for 4 years, until it's closure, she was gutted, she absolutely loved working there.Such a shame, funnily enough we were in Bath a good few years ago now, maybe 15 and their shop was still open then, Bridge Street as I recall, it's all gone now, they also had shops in Bristol and Swindon.
She often recalls her time there with great affection.

They should have kept a few of those double decker buses

Being upstairs in one going around the Gower was a pleasure

There are a few knocking about, in the transport museum down on Fabian Way, down by the Audi centre, they do run some trips in the summer. Here's a link for you.👍

Didn’t they move ever so briefly to Oxford Street down towards the arcades?

Yes they did very briefly as you say, the original building was demolished sometime in the 70s we believe, and the TSB building that is there now was built in its place.👍

I honestly can't remember the original building, my wife reckons it was more of a two storey building, DS and Pinker were there for decades and decades.

Dimly lit, one open wooden ground floor. Something out of Victorian days but had it’s own character.

I used to live above the cafe you can see at the bottom end of the road in photo number 4. I would have been 6 years old when that photo was taken.

Spent a lot of time in Virgin on Union Street...and Derricks was a treaure trove for getting a few cheap punk records that they couldn't sell...

I think the "new" Evening Post building by Morgans Hotel was built late 1960's and the castle buildings demolished in the 1970's.

Previous to it becoming the Evening Post offices, the Castle building had been the Post Office and then the Labour Exchange.

Why on earth wasn't that building listed and why was it knocked down? As a child of the late 60's I was thinking that there used to be more of Swansea Castle but perhaps it was that building.
