It's been 4 weeks now since I bothered looking for an online delivery slot with Sainsbury's.....their loss.

Aldi have venison burgers for £1.99, the taste is superb.
I also picked up some tempura battered chicken mini fillets.
Can't wait to put chili sauce on them?

Co-op do black pudding slices which again are a delight

We couldn't get a slot either and went back to using an organic farm delivery service, Riverford. We then buy most other stuff from our local shopes, One Stop and Nisa. We plan on carrying like this, tyes, it's the supermarkets loss.

The organic food tastes nicer, we are eating more healthily because we are not buying a lot of the junk we used to, my wife is getting more exercise because she walks to the shops instead of me driving.
Although the food is a bit more expensive we acrually save money because no choccies, biscuits, deserts and we eat more fresh fruit.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Wouldn’t fancy getting stuck on a desert island with you Dicky. I’d be sleeping up the coconut tree every night.

Could wake up minus an arm or something if I didn’t.

£1.99 for venison burgers? That’s dear.

The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.

I was offered eight legs of venison for £100.

I thought to myself, that’s too dear.

We used to shop every other day pretty much, normally at our local Sainsbury, but the queues have been ridiculous. As a result we have moved to a weekly shop and tend to use Aldi, as the queues are much smaller, they also tend to have plenty of things like Eggs, flour etc.

We've also started using our local butcher & fruit/veg shops to supplement the weekly shop.

I think ti's likely that even when this is over we will keep a similar pattern.

You need to go to the supermarket and start buying 'deserts' again...

Dicky - the Co-Op gammon steaks are also worthy of a shout. Quite thick, at least 12mm and also well trimmed of fat residue.

Yep, the only thing to go in with black pudding and egg would be some mushrooms and brown sauce.

Give them a try but grill them a few mins less than what the instructions state as they stay considerably more moist.

Since lockdown we've gone to a weekly shop and even though Saisnbury's is walking distance for us (South London) we prefer to travel to Aldi.

The issue we had with Sainsbury's is that even though it's ten times the size of Aldi, you always get the same bottlenecks i.e. meat, fish & dairy aisles as well as frozen - it doesn't matter if you have a huge store with 40 aisles if only half a dozen of them are of interest to the majority.

We've found that as Aldi is a smaller store, less people are let in and it definitely feels less crowded. We've also found that people are generally more polite and respectful.

From day 1 of lockdown we have been able to get pasta and eggs, and on more than one occasion they had stocks of flour - our sainsbury's has only recently been getting stock of the above.

We also use our local butcher who in his own words is "Absolutely knackered" and hasn't been this busy in years.

As lockdown is reduced I think we'll keep this approach up as it has worked really well for us.

And with regards to food purchases - Venison steaks and burgers - very nice!

Before lockdown, I went shopping at a big out of town supermarket here called Family Cash. They've got a huge fresh meat counter including a section devoted to their own handmade burgers, about 20 or 30 different varieties. I'd had their steakburgers before and they were great, so I pointed to them again and said "quattro". The server said "potro?", and me thinking that's what they were called, said "si".
When I got outside, I thought I'd check what cut of beef 'potro' was on the phone translator. Answer: horse (colt).

The mate's dog had them! Would you have eaten them? Cue terrible puns.

Karl Davies butchers in Gorseinon has a superb array of meat, called in there today while on my daily walk and bought some lambs liver...beautiful.
Their T bone and rib eye steaks are excellent.

If poor Dobbin becomes a burger the least you can do is eat him.

I'd be surprised if most meat eaters hadn't had a bit of horse thinking it was something else at one point or another.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.
