| Debating. 15:27 - Oct 2 with 3194 views | ItchySphincter | Interesting concept isn’t it? Is it a battle to be won or lost or an exchange of views with the objective of changing a person’s opinion, or an exercise in forming the ability to think in a critical way. These Biden v Trump debates have brought it back in to focus. Would taking a position of superiority or accusing an opponent of rambling be a show of strength or a sign of weakness? It would be the latter I would think. Just wondering. | |

Confrontational? I'm just correcting your assumption that I was talking about building sites. That's okay isn't it? I never called you names or swore at you, chill out mun.

| Debating. on 20:00 - Oct 2 by Neath_Jack | Best post for months on this forum. It is full of oddballs trying to push their opinions on anyone willing to take them seriously. In truth, how many people really give a flying mutts danglies about some OAP's from the other side of the world? I work in the construction industry, and not once have I ever heard a conversation about Trump. Plenty of people make a passing comment about something ridiculous he's said or done, then it's back to football, rugby, the weather etc etc. |
That’s your issue there. You are assuming that because you work in construction then nobody else should care either. In my industry it is my job to know exactly what is going on. It may explain your refusal to back your political point though. I can’t imagine you get too much in depth knowledge from Steve the scaffolder.

And yet you have posted more about politics than family life or football in the last few months.

You are just as likely to get insightful knowledge from Steve the scaffolder as you are from people of other professions.

Not according to Neathie:- “I work in the construction industry, and not once have I ever heard a conversation about Trump. Plenty of people make a passing comment about something ridiculous he's said or done, then it's back to football, rugby, the weather etc etc.” Doesn’t sound like there is much in depth political discussion going on to me.

Weird isn’t it? I didn’t take you as being confrontational but it’s a thing on here. Not mentioning any names but some people are openly aggressive, trying to stir up old battles, ‘cliques’, even trawling the search functions to gather evidence about people ( honestly?! FFS ), and then frame it in such a way that it appears they are somehow being a unfairly treated. It really is bizarre behaviour and something the boss told us to steer away from. It’s only a football message board at the end of the day so I don’t know why they just can’t behave themselves. For the most part, besides one or two, most of us rub along alright. It’s

Which point? You do this every now and again. You scan the threads for anything you can add at all, if there isn't then you get frustrated and make a thread having a go at people. You have done this for years and continue to do so today. I doubt it will change. Chad gave you some home truths, just accept it and move on. No need to get upset about it.

No OHL not London Lisa, although I believe she has many fine qualities and we have much more than XX chromosome in common. However although very similar in some respects, we are very different people. You did once invite me to your house which I thought very generous, although as an hospitable person I think that was not out of the norm for you No disrespect whatsoever taken. And kindest regards to you and yours

Thank you Itch, I did have a pleasant evening I think the truth very important, just a thing of mine. Given you are accusing me of being dishonest, perhaps you would have the decency to indicate what you are saying I was not truthful about in my post. I am sure you will agree that is only fair. (I did of course refer to icecoldjack as ice, though I am sure you understood that already). Then we may let the ‘evidence’ speak ;) Thank you in anticipation

| Debating. on 21:19 - Oct 2 by Catullus | Now there's a claim worthy of a debate, is the world a safer place overall? Has it been made safer in the last 4 years? China and Russia playing up, China has been on the brink with India, Trump has been confronting pretty much everybody.....safer, yes or no? I care slightly more than an iota about the POTUS but only as far as it affects my life. To be fair, building site aren't exactly a hotbed of political discourse beyond calling the government (words that'd be removed) for putting the price of beer, fags and petrol up. Last time I worked on a building site we were still arguing over who the best page 3 girl was, that was 1989...Kathy Lloyd! Of course the 88/89 season was memorable for many reasons, some of them very bad. Isn't most of what's posted on ere an exercise in futility? Who takes any notice of it besides us? It's just a bunch of nobodies posting their opinions. I'm fine with being a nobody, I live a stress free life. I enjoy the quiet, simple life. |
President Trump has been confrontational where other countries are seen to be treating the USA unfairly. ie championing the USA cause, which is exactly what he was elected to do. Other than taking out some terrorists please explain how the USA raised tensions on the world stage. As for China and Russia "playing up" that is precisely what they do, but the USA is not responding to their sabre rattling with as much sabre rattling as previous presidents used, he is attacking them, China in particular, where it realy hurts, economically. With the peace negotiations around Israel I would judge the world safer, but you may not. [Post edited 4 Oct 2020 11:26]

Fear not OHL, it was a long time ago, I will not be arriving at your door, although as I recall it was a throw away offer of overnight accommodation should the need arise. But as I recall I was not the only poster you made that offer to. I was just trying to point out we had discussions before, given you were asking about me. We were both also on the other website as well, when some of the main figures from here fallowed you and said some pretty nasty stuff, for which I remonstrated with them. But all a long time ago. I agree it is great up North, and often pop up to Manchester (pre COVID) to see family and also often camp out in the Lake District. Although we only managed 1 visit this year, couple of weeks ago, luckily weather was beautiful. We always travel mid Wales and often (pre COVID again) would pop into Cheshire Oaks on the way. Used to have family in Liverpool too but that was long ago. My gran actually sewed cushions for the Titanic.

Seems a lifetime ago that my wife and I had a quick look and bite in Cheshire Oaks whilst kids at the cinema and a couple of weeks later a birthday meal for my daughter in Chester. Much has changed since March and furthest I have been are Delamere Forest and West Kirby. I finally got the much promised pint from my daughter last month dodging mozzies at the Harp Inn, the old colllier’s pub on the Dee Estuary at Neston. A day of Zoom is no joy.

Glad you managed your pint. Some of the simple little everyday pleasures we took for granted do sadly seem like a feint dream nowadays. But still lucky and here Caswell wonderful when quiet and the tide out. The long term effects on the younger generations a real worry though. Was wonderful to get away for a few days in the sunshine though. Just a change of scene. This was from our visit last year, but had same spot, soo relaxing, bless the National Trust.
