All the indications that he will be ready for Championship football at least to replace Guehi 2021-2022. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/fo

| Brandon Cooper development on 17:29 - Nov 20 by KeithHaynes | Great news for Brandon. From the EFL site. On-loan Newport County defender, Brandon Cooper, has been named October's EFL Young Player of the Month. Having only made his League debut in September, the 20-year-old's fine form contributed to three clean sheets last month as Newport moved to the top of the Sky Bet League Two standings. Speaking exclusively to the EFL upon receiving the award, Cooper was naturally delighted to have been recognised for his performances. "It's a great honour," he said. "Personally, it's a proud moment for me, and hopefully I can carry on churning out good displays. I think it's down to the manager and the faith he's shown in me since my debut against Scunthorpe. "He's given me an opportunity to show what I can do. It feels like I've been at Newport for ages already with the games coming quickly, but I'm loving every minute of playing for the club and manager." October also brought Cooper's first professional goal in his side's 2-1 win over Harrogate on Halloween, but it's at the other end of the pitch where he takes true pride from his work. "I was delighted to score a late winner in that game, it was an important goal and a bit of a relief to get off the mark. But I've got a little list at home of my clean sheets, I'm ticking them off and trying to set myself some goals. "We kept three in a row in October, and each time it's like scoring a goal for us defenders and goalkeepers. It's a great feeling to get your job done. "We'd love to get into League One for next season, it would be unreal. It's a long old season and so we can't get carried away; we've got to just rack up the points and keep doing what we're doing." The youngster is grateful for the opportunity given to him by his parent club, Swansea City, and says he is already feeling the positive effects of his loan, but is determined to stay grounded. "I'm benefitting massively. In the short time I've been here, I've learned so much already and so many players have come into League Two and used it as a platform. If I can do anything in that direction, that would be amazing, but I'm focusing on the present and winning games for Newport. "I've grown up with Swansea, having been there since I was six, so if one day I can have a successful career there, that would be great. That won't happen unless I don't focus on the here and now." Congratulations, Brandon! |
Strange he'd get awarded this after he'd missed that penalty

He was a good player but limited, he made the most of what little he had, he perfected whipping in crosses from the corner of the penalty box as he couldn't beat a man and get to the byline, even if he was able to knock a ball past someone he won't then have the pace to run past them. |
Despite his immense talent, Mr Best’s off the field shenanigans and personal demons led to him being effectively semi retired in his mid twenties as he couldn’t do any of those things very well anymore. I don’t think he’s qualified to talk about other players limitations.

George Best was one of the best players to ever play the game World wide in any era, he was a fantastic talent.

Yes he was. I don’t think anyone ever doubted that, and he was better than Beckham but it’s also a fact he was pretty much finished by the time he was 25. Whereas Beckham was playing top flight and winning trophies when he was pushing forty. Best was severely limited by his own behaviour and his career and life suffered as a result.

Age has got nothing to do with ability in this sense, there have been players pushing 40 in the Prem in recent years that are not world beaters.

No but the quote was about being limited. There’s nothing more that limits you than being a piss head who can’t play after 25. Best was an absolute god there’s no doubt about that but he burned brightly and fizzled out quickly, mainly because he kept hammering away at that big red self destruct button labelled “do not push”. That’s what made him extremely limited as a player, not his ability which is undoubted.

Finishing at a young age is not being limited, was Duncan Edwards limited because he died ?

We don't have the ambition of Leeds. The tame Rodon sale further confirmed that. We'd probably bite the hand off whoever offers £5m first [Post edited 24 Nov 2020 14:54]

Unless he's tied down he'll be off to the first team who offers him a few quid, he's out of contract in the summer? This is apparently the norm with our youngsters though, to be fair we haven't been caught cold in the past (atleast if my memory serves) but seems risky to me, I'd rather see him sign a new contract ready for next season when the likes of Guehi go back to parent club.

Need to get him signed up ASAP, Welsh international, place in the first team etc. Could be another money spinner in the future.

Maybe it was because he was an alcoholic? Doesn’t help whilst playing football. Beckham would have mullered George but only because he was 20 times fitter. Beckham could take the odd free kick too

Beckham could not hold a candle to George Best, George Best for a period of time (all be it a short period of time) was possibly the best player in the entire World. Beckham would have struggled to have been in the top 20 players in the Prem leave alone the World.

The parallel of course is Gazza. Brilliantly talented, probably the best in the world at the time. You can go out and live the party life, get absolutely rat arsed and still play well on the Saturday when you’re a teenager or in your early twenties but it catches up to you and like Best he was essentially semi retired by his mid to late twenties and playing in a pub league because he couldn’t do it anymore. His body and mind were broken. You still saw flashes of his immense talent but he couldn’t produce it enough. Whereas someone like Beckham consistently played to a very good standard, getting lots of assists, a decent amount of goals and also had a good defensive workrate and was winning titles in four different countries up until his late thirties. If he wasn’t a top player he wouldn’t have been anywhere near Manchester United, Real Madrid or AC Milan. Perhaps Alex Ferguson and all the other top managers saw something in him that you don’t?

Being too drunk to play and being dead severely harms your ability to play football for any great period of time. Especially being dead. Death is a severe limitation on every career except perhaps Son of God.

Beckham was a marketing dream and a very good player. Take away the hype and the free kicks and I would say he was just a good player.

Gazza was another over hyped English player, plying his trade in the Scottish league and for a lesser Italian team.

Interesting statement from George Best ... "If I had to choose between dribbling past 5 players and scoring from 40 yards at Anfield or sh@gging Miss World, it would be a hard choice. Thankfully, I've done both." 😇
