| Vaccine roll out next week on 17:48 - Dec 4 by londonlisa2001 | On one hand you criticise prats like Rees Mogg for politicising the vaccine and in the other hand you do the same thing. There are also hugely clever people in this country who have worked their backsides off to create a vaccine. It will be the one that most people here end up having. And most people in all developing countries in the world. In fact, it will be their main salvation as the Pfizer vaccine will be of no use to most of the world. Why undermine the achievements of our scientists to score a point against someone over bloody Brexit? People need to grow up. No one on this board was more anti Brexit than I am, but the argument is over. Attempting to score points at this stage, particularly in a situation which is quite literally life and death is pathetic. |
So you set up a straw-man for things i never said. Then you shoot down your own creation ! Now that really is dumb. Of course, the one brain cell posters then celebrate your own argument with yourself. And i am sure you enjoyed the applause from wherever it came. Heres the thing, yes i criticise Rees-Mogg. And thats it. His fake English exceptionalism in trying to wrap the Belgian vaccine in the union jack. Clever people in the EU is a fact. That does not say there are no clever hard working people in the UK. The only disrespect is in your mind. You made it up, i did not say it. Why don't you grow up ? As you are so fond of saying to others. See you try to make it impossible for people to challenge tosssers like Rees-Mogg cos you do his dirty work for him. Lets all pretend its a UK vaccine shall we ? Happy now Jacob ? You really don't need to make up things i did not say. I hear the other site really needs clever posters like you, perhaps you should .....

| Vaccine roll out next week on 17:41 - Dec 4 by londonlisa2001 | They’re not though are they. I’ve never understood this argument. If local people want house prices lower so their kids aren’t priced out of the market, they simply have to sell their houses to a local at a lower price rather than an English person at a higher price. No one is forced to sell their house at a higher price. So the only ones actually pricing locals out of staying local are the other locals. |
Do you not give a damn for the damage done to our welsh culture and welsh language from large numbers English second home owners ? First the uk keeps wales poor. And then it destroys the very things that make wales wales. They buy them, use them 4 times a year - and they are empty the rest of the time. It kills the local community. Wales is not a theme park. If you cant see the damage done by second homes then you really have become a Londoner. ðŸ´ó §ó ¢ó ·ó ¬ó ³ó ¿ðŸ´ó §ó ¢ó ·ó ¬ó ³ó ¿ðŸ´ó §ó ¢ó ·ó ¬ó ³ó ¿

If the money was spent equally around the whole of wales improving infrastructure ect Wales as whole could really develop. Wales does not stop at the boundary's of Cardiff.

I think some of those holiday home area local authorities are getting wise to the situation and taxing those second home properties accordingly, all getting taxed regardless of nationality I trust.

| Vaccine roll out next week on 22:22 - Dec 4 by Boundy | Its not quite that simple Just 8% of affordable housing stock is in rural areas. Typically, rural housing costs about 11 times the average salary of people working in rural areas. In the central Lake District, house price to income ratios are even higher, at 12 to 1. “People who buy a second home for the weekend tend to have quite significant resources, so they may be happy to pay a premium to acquire the house they want,” says Matt Thomson. “Holiday lets are popular so that pushes prices up, too.” Then when developers think the time is right to build they do and sell their stock above the average house prices which in turn raise the costs for everyone. https://nation.cymru/news/sene [Post edited 4 Dec 2020 22:30]

Yes, but no local seller has to accept the highest price offered. And developers of new homes wouldn’t sell them at a higher price if other local stock was available more cheaply. The price is set by the person selling.

Great, so why is that illegal? It’s nothing of the sort. I’m not suggesting someone says ‘I’m not selling to an English person’, I’m just saying they could accept the lower offer of a local kid if that’s what they think is right. There is no obligation to accept the highest offer for your house, you can sell to who you want.

Yes. The seller doesn’t have to accept the higher offer. Gazumping only happens because people are prepared to break their word for money. I’m not judging them, but that’s the reality.

If they're only here 4 weeks of the year they couldn't have tilted the brexit vote then. Why is it only the English you hate being here? I've challeneged you before and you say you don't hate the English but the evidence says otherwise. You never challenge other immigrants who buy Welsh houses. There are rich Welsh people who have second/holiday homes in other countries, should we be stopping them from destroying other countries communities and heritage? As you're so keen on Welsh culture why did you not call yourself Hedd Wyn Jack or something more Welsh than Irish?

Sigh. That’s completely irrelevant. Yes, it can be damaging to communities if there are too many second home owners in that community. But local house sellers don’t have to accept the highest offer. They do because they want the money. Look. Imagine there is someone just outside Llandovery, say, who is selling an old cottage that their great aunt lived in. And there are two bidders. One is a local youngster who can pay £150k. And one is someone in London looking for a weekend place and they can pay £200k. There is no reason why the place can’t be sold to the local for the lower amount. That is entirely within the gift of the seller. If they choose to take more money, that’s obviously up to them. And what the vast majority would do. But they can’t then moan about local kids being priced out of the market, as they could have directly ensured that wasn’t the case. And if the other people they know in the same situation did the same, there wouldn’t be an issue. And the big national house builder 10 miles down the road, would also have to reduce prices from £175k to £140k because otherwise they wouldn’t sell anything, because you can pick up a lovely old cottage for £150k and that has a miles bigger garden. Second home owners are only causing an unaffordable market for kids because the families and neighbours of those kids want to accept more money from the person in London.

I’m suggesting they sell to a local not an outsider if that’s what they believe in. There’s nothing illegal about that. You can sell to who you want. I’ve heard stories of people who’ve sold to the family they liked most even if it wasn’t the highest offer. Or someone that they thought would love their garden like they have done. You can do what you want.
