Potter 13:28 - Dec 20 with 2659 viewspencoedjack

Swans fans favourite ex manager who was adored for his style of football currently getting booed by Brighton fans as his team are losing at home to Sheff Utd.

With better players didn’t finish as high as our current gaffer.

Reading the match day thread presume most would be happy to have him back?

Huw Jenkins had 16 seasons at Swansea and 15 of them were very sucessful despite a couple of seasons of struggle. Staying up in PL = successful season for Swansea and Brighton. It is not decided in December.

Excluding the loan signings which Cooper (through his contacts) has brought in i find it hard to believe any Swans fan would agree.

I read he’s told Man Utd he won’t go on loan.

How've they not won it? Some shocking misses.

Potter had a good squad available but most of the experienced pros were always injured (Fer, Olsson, Carroll) and the stars were only beginning to establish themselves (DJ, Roberts) or both in the case of Rodon. George Byers is absolutely useless according to many on here but he was a regular in our midfield when we outplayed all-comers, only to be let down by awful set piece defending and choice of goalkeeper. If Potter had Margetson by his side we'd have been unstoppable.

That squad was full of players with Premier league experience.

Maybe Potter isn't the great messiah that some think he was .I'm surprised that Brighton haven't progressed as a team as I thought they would when Potter joined them., but then again they ;ve been riding their luck for a number of seasons now ,maybe they're just not good enough for the PL

Not a great lover of this rather bland management speak manager.

With all our comings and goings and notwithstanding his oft quoted "project" ,he was out of the Lib at the speed of light

You are underestmating how dificult a job it is to stay in the Premier leagues or recognise the fabulous job Swansea did in staying there for 7 seasons while balancing the books and investig in infrastructure. Several teams go down in the second season like Hiuddesfield under Wagner and perhaps Wilde this season after surviving the first season on adrenaline. .

He did far better players

After 20 games we have 6 more points than last season and 10 more than under Potter.

Yes he did. He had Olsson, van der Hoorn, Fer, McBurnie and James. Then there was Carroll and Montero who he had for half of the season.

In addition, the likes of Routledge and Dyer were not quite as over the hill as they are now.

Then you have the players that both managers have benefitted from (Rodon, Grimes, Naughton, Roberts, Fulton, Byers and Dhanda).

He complimented those players with Celina (£3m), Asoro (£2m) and McKay (£1.5m).

That is a first team squad that should be challenging for automatic promotion.

Meanwhile, Cooper's squad this season, when excluding the players he has brought in, looks like a squad that will do well to avoid a relegation battle.

Graham Potter is a fraud whos entire reputation is built on his time in Sweden where he grossly outspent his competition through the financial crimes of the club's owner.

I think Yan Dhanda is a perfectly fine squad player at the moment. The rest of his signings were atrocious. That is the fault of Graham Potter - nobody else.

He had far more money made available to spend, and he wasted it on Celina (£3m), McKay (£1.5m) and Asoro (£2m).

The Dhanda deal was done before Potter's was afaik.

Potter's squad on paper looks stronger than it was because certain players weren't even allowed to play until they got their contracts sorted out. Dan James didn't come into proper form at this level until January, having made a breakthrough in October then picked up an injury. Grimes, Rodon, McBurnie etc. were seen as suicidal picks by most fans. Cooper benefited from inheriting a group of players who'd been tried and tested, and developed into good players at this level, even if he lost two standouts. And gained an £80k/week Andre Ayew.

What Potter actually had to work with during that first 20 games spell was Courtney Baker-Richardson to lead the line for us. Partly his own fault of course having spent his budget poorly. And the constant rotation/tinkering.

McBurnie was a very well established player when Potter arrived. He had already won an award for Championship Player of the Month and he was named Player of the Year by Barnsley during the previous season.

Baker-Richardson only started six league games throughout the entire season.

At least try to get your facts right before you have yet another swipe at our manager.

James for example was on fire that season. That’s what alerted lots of top Clubs. He played in at least 30 games.

Your reasoning lacks no real substance and certainly isn’t based around any actual facts which makes your slagging of SC even more of a mystery

You don't see ‘benefitted from Byers and Dhanda’ in the same sentence very often.

What have the pair of them ever done for us...?
They seem just too lightweight to me.

Hopefully i am wrong.

Surprised Risca hasn't been in this thread, he loved Potter.

On a similar note, anyone want to still rate Biesla as some football manager guru? He's never won anything major, and never will either.

I want a mate like Flashberryjacks, who wears a Barnsley jersey with "Swans are my second team" on the back.

You seem to have a serious love in with Steve. It 's getting-as they say-boring now.

Steve will leave and let you down .

Another manager will take over

Get the feck over the fact some do not see him as great in any way at all.

You'd never believe that to here him talked about on here at the time, though. Nailed on for relegation, we were (as Barnsley were).

CBR made 17 league appearances, which considering he didn't have much if any involvement after Routledge was allowed to play regularly again from December is a lot in that first 20 game spell that's being compared. We were even pretty good in a few of those starts (QPR). McBurnie needed someone to lead the line for him, not been effective on his own at any of his clubs, Barnsley included where he played mostly off the left.

But yeah, Cooper with Surridge, Borja, Ayew and later Brewster had a far worse squad to choose from.

We are still in the balancing the books and infrastructure phase.

Is having Landore and Fairwood sustainable investment, or simple folly.

Certainly the money spent on them might have kept us up if spent on first team players ?
It was a choice.

No shortage of money spent on bad players. If you can't stay up spending after £60m+ then £80-100m isn't going to make much difference.

Yep.

Landore & Fairwood are the only real legacy we've got left from our time in the Prem. It's the spending we should regret the least, even if we question the need for both sites rather than one combined.

Extreme short sightedness to think we'd have been better off shovelling that relatively small amount of cash into a player or agents pockets instead.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.
