| 176 million 20:49 - Feb 19 with 2986 views | pencoedjack | If you won the euro millions tonight would you invest in Swansea City? | | | | |
| 176 million on 10:22 - Feb 20 with 1506 views | Dr_Winston | If I bought the club I wouldn't run it any differently to now, so buying it would be pointless. Would definitely invest a bit of cash in kids facilities though. 3g pitches, refurbish changing rooms, that sort of thing. | |
| Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back. |

I do it on football manager sometimes. Give all their players away. Spunk the entire transfer budget on 57 year old goalkeepers to replace them with. What’s that? I’ve just been sacked for losing 27-0 at home to Blyth Spartans? Better add myself back in.

| 176 million on 21:28 - Feb 19 by jasper_T | Buy a small club. Employ people, build facilities. Plenty of worthwhile ways to spend money in football, it's not all millionaires and their agents. What's the point of sitting on £176m? You can't take it with you. Spend £175m within a community, never see a penny back, and live very well on the million left over. |
I never said I'd dit on it, I said something worthwhile. Seeing as other people have weighed in with decent answers, here's mine. I'd put 50 million into a trust fund for the Air Ambulance so they had always had funding, I'd have to see what interest rate the bank would give for an eternal deposit but at 2% thats 1 million per year. I'd donate to the RNLI, to several local charities including Age Cymru Swansea Bay. the Cyrenians and food banks. I'd give to GOSH and the BHF in memory of my friend, Alan Gorton. I'd invest in my local park, build a sports centre and meeting hall, there are already facilities but I'd upgrade them a lot so the local community could truly have somewhere worthwhile and yes, I'd start a trust fund to pay the running costs. All I would keep would be (ALL ) would be 20 million, 5 for us to live on and spend, have a massive splurge and 15 into a long term bank account to provide an annual income. Not that I've thought about it much

I would loan the Swans £5m at a higher rate of interest than the bank. Win win.
| 176 million on 12:44 - Feb 20 with 1396 views | ReslovenSwan1 | Euro 176 m. I would be looking for 5% return that brings in Eu 8,8m. pa. I would give Swansea city a Convertible loan note CLN again 5% return to return the academy to Cat 1 for 5 years £10m. I would become a minor shareholder. I would be looking to refurbish old buildings for reuse as day centres or some sort of commuity facilty like that dilapidate old theatre near the station. I would call it Resolfen House. Convert a few chapels for housing. £1m a year of interest to Ty Hafan. I would donate £100,000 pa to the club to employ 5 or 6 suitsble trainees from the community to learn skills at the club in media, maintenance of pitch and stadium , match analysis and international scouting analysis. I would look for a suitable dilapidated old mansion in need of loving care to restore it to grandeur with a view to use as a hotel or events venue. [Post edited 20 Feb 2021 13:48]

Where would you get 5%? Interest rates are historically at rock bottom. Then you'd have to pay tax on the interest. On 176 million you'dpay top rate. You wouldn't get near 8.8 million I don't think unless you set up a charitable trust.

I woud get better than 5% returns in various funds on the global markets. I have made good money with simple tracker funds. I made a bet in May 2016 that the Sterling would drop after Brexit so put two ISA into US index tracker fund with L&G in spring 2016. In this case I got 'double bubble' growth in US stocks plus growth in the Dollar v Sterling. Doubled my money in 4 years. Sterling is now recovering slightly. Investment globally is a risk but nowhere near the risk most people think. If you have a pension this is where you pension is invested. This is also what individuals should do and Not for profit organisations like the Trust. They are happy with 0.15% for one good reason. The do not give a fig because its not their money. Here you go. US index tracker up 132% in 5 years. Its not even a manged fund. https://www.trustnet.com/facts [Post edited 20 Feb 2021 13:44]

Markets give no guarantees, people can and do lose fortunes. You couldn't guarantee 5%. Still, never an opportunity to knock the trust gets passed up eh. PS, it'sbecause it's not the trusts money they don't take chances with it. They can't gamble with other peoples money, they are not a hedge fund. [Post edited 20 Feb 2021 15:11]

And Ty Hafan receives just a minor % of its running costs from the Welsh Assembly, having to raise the rest itself. An absolute disgrace..... all the while those down the Bay of Plenty keep accepting pay rise after pay rise.

Stay at home its dangerous out there even with out the plague. There is no guarentee for anything. The Trust are pissing money into the river Tawe because they do not take financial advice. Not one of the 1300 members have asked the questions I have asked. The Trust are actually taking ourageous risks with their assets and have been since 2010. Down £14m since 2016. I do not understand why you use the words 'hedge fund'. It is not approprite for the Trust and never was. You probably do not even realise your pension pot (if you have one ) is invested on the global markets. [Post edited 20 Feb 2021 17:49]
