| Swansea City v Bristol City: Matchday Thread THE AFTERMATH 11:23 - Feb 25 with 17777 views | NotLoyal | English Football Championship Swansea City v Bristol City Saturday 27th February 2021 Kick off 3pm Liberty Stadium TV : SWANS TV RADIO : BBC RADIO WALES & TALK SPORT 2 Match officials KEITH STROUD Jonathan Hunt and Sam Lewis Fourth Official : Scott Tallis It’s good to see Keith from Stroud in charge of this game, he hasn’t got that far to drive and can get a lift back on the Bristol City team coach if he parks up on the M4/M5 junction. Lovely kebab van near there too, think about it Keith, it’s definitely an option pal. Keith from Stroud will probably park up near the kebab van next to the M4/M5 and jump on the Wurzel bus to the Liberty Stroud last officiated a swans game on December 2nd 2020 when Middlesbrough beat the swans 2-1. He booked Grimes and Dhanda that day because he was scared of Neil Warnock. Steve Cooper didn’t bother him that much, but that was before Andy Woolmer went looking for it. We do have information that Stroud is now a bit concerned about this game because he doesn’t like Cooper either. We think, it might not be true, but if it is then it’s almost certainly correct. Stroud was also the ref for the first leg play off against Brentford last year, that night he went a bit nuts, but recovered well enough to drive home. Stroud always kisses the ball and has avoided Covid all season by drinking a litre of turpentine before and after each match Obviously all of us here at Swansea Independent urge you not to drink turpentine, unless you are in Newcastle with Hoddle and Waddle singing their number one classic tune about cleaning paint brushes in the fog. Matches against Bristol City generally close affairs except the 2005 game which the swans won 7-1. The robins manager, Brian Tinnion, sat on the away bench after the game for three days, he was eventually removed by court order. Brian Tin Tin Tinnion no relation to Stephen Tin Tin Duffy, but equally as shit Cardiff City’s main rivals, Bristol City visit the Liberty and will have to drive past Cardiff on the M4 which will of course terrify them, what with this big rivalry between the two clubs that isn’t. This game would have been ear marked for an easy three points a few weeks ago, but much has changed. Nigel Pearson, that throat grabbing box of fun is the newly appointed manager and the Robins as they are known have new orange chests and feathers. New robins manager Nigel ‘the strangler get a grip on yourself ‘ Pearson Bristol City are commonly known as the fans who don’t turn up alongside Cardiff who are the fans who make things up, and East Stirlingshire who are in Scotland. Incredibly the dialect in Bristol is known as Wurzel, we had a look at typical sayings in Wurzel Bristol, and they basically were the same as everywhere else, which almost places them in the ‘making things up’ bracket with Cardiff. They played for both sides Lee Trundle Steve Torpey There are others but I can’t be bothered. Early team news Swansea City Kyle Naughton suffered an injury during the second half against Coventry City. Wayne Routledge is still out as is Liam Cullen. It’s looking like Ryan Bennett won’t make this game either which is a huge blow again for the swans. The swans ( as we know them ) have won eight of their last eleven league games, drawing two and losing only one. The club by all accounts is in crisis. Burzle City The tractor will be somewhat empty as Angela Lansbury is out, as is Alfie Mawson. Weimann is also out and a bloke called O’Dowda. And another bloke called Martin and Dasilva too. Oh, and that Watkins fella. Bristol City won last time out 3-1 at Middlesbrough. They lost the previous seven matches on the bounce. The last time they won was 2-1 against Huddersfield Town in January, yes them. Current League Table More to follow most likely.

ok this crap that is being put about regarding Pearson outhinking Cooper and that sides have worked us out. Firstly Pearson was forced into a change otherwise they wiuld have been reduced to 10 men...they should have heen anyway but the ref bottled it...his new formation was designed more to pkay to their strenghts rather thancpnutering our tactics. Teams havent worked us out if Pearson had we wouldnt have seen the 45 mins of fottball we witnessed in the first half....many on herevwere creamibf rhenselves over it..orwould we have seen some of the attacking football in the Forest game. .Despite their lineyp ciange Bristol dudnt become an attackkng threat....we gifted them some goals...and prevoius managers eg Martinez didnt have a plan b either we lost because we didnt take our chances when we domoinared first half abd then gifted Bristol 3 goals due to player error not because our manager was inept

That's the problem with cooper never changes system to counteract opposition if things change and not working...he was forced into this system last season due to injuries and we went on a fabulous run and in fairness most time it has worked, but when things not working and its obvious in certain areas we getting out done he either can't or won't change things to counteract it...frustrating when we can see the problem..

A fair post and yes this switch did stop us uniing rampant as we did in the first half. But who socred first and took the lead? The switch didnt prevent us doing that did it? It didnt present Bristol with a goal. Now at this point despite the genius tactical switch by Pearson outwitting the hapless Cooper we finf our selves 1 nil up. If Bristol want to get back into the game they have to open up disrupt their defensive roemation and come at us presenting us with gaps to exploit so as we are now on the fron foot why change? Oh yes we could defend the 1-0 lead something you and many others have been critical of. What happens next has nothing to do with one manager outsmarting another our captain in his wsidom decides to ignore an a chance to attack with a through ball to Connor Roberts who is in acres of space but slows the game down by putting his foot on the ball inviting Bristol onto us he palys backwards and seideways resulting in a misplced backward pass from Houruhane and Bristol are gifted the equaliser. Their heads lift and our s drop. There is a bit of tactical nous shown in the corner Bristol CIty get. Obviously with some inside knowledge form Palmer Freddie is blocked out and the ball swung to the goal line avoiding the outfield defenders! Lets hope other tewams dont pick up on this as our set piece defending has been a sreal strength. Our so called hapless manager makes subs ...one of which is presented with a chance to equalise but fluffs his lines....we remain 1-2 down ....our goalie also decided to pass to the Bristol CF who says thank you very much and scores the third killing the game. Now then please tell me how the tactical switcjh talked about in the tweet you selected effected those events resulting in the win. Yes we were no longer all them like as rash as we were inthe first half....did the switch stop us taking the lead? Did the tactical switch give them more attacking force to score a goal to get therm back into the game or did they socre due to our players cocking things up? WE lost, Cooper doesnt always get it right he has dropped clanger snother games but to suggest that the result Saturday was because PEarson outsmarted Cooper is a load of B*lls. As I said despite the switch we scored and took the lead....then Grimes had a brain fart.....yes he was MOM against Forest but his decison to slow the game down led to our downfall! Bad day at the office lets move on....we havent run out of luck, luck doesnt allow you to only lose 6 games in a season, teams havent worked us out if they had we wouldnt have 45 mins like we did in the first half on Saturday or seen some of the passages of play there were ( albeit only about half a dozen or so) agianst Forest. Pearson did not outsmart Cooper , the players outsmarted themselves!

Whilst I agree Pearson did not outsmart Cooper what he did do was recognise his initial formation was not working & they were being dominated all over the pitch bar the important one in that we hadn’t scored. Based on that he changed his second half formation to combat what he had seen & that change led to their win - yes he got a tad lucky with individual errors, although I’m sure when he saw our very soft penalty he didn’t th8nk that would happen at that point. If you need the evidence just look at the stats between the first & second half on every measure not just goals. Personally Cooper/we were a tad unlucky with the mistakes but he was slow to react to what he was watching & maybe trusted the players/formation a tad too much. He’ll have plenty of opportunities to evidence he is learning & developing over the next month with a series of tough fixtures in March. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Not really. We battered for 65 mins and 1 of our 15 odd chances went in. For the rest of the game they matched us and 1 out of their 2 chances went in. Plus 2 that were from nothing. In that period none of our 3 chances went in. Just one of those days.

I guess that’s down to interpretation, for me Pearson (in his first game in charge) was getting a bettering in everything bar the score line so it almost forced his hand to do something which initially didn’t work & we got a soft penalty but from then on it was a very even match until our various individual mistakes - that said Cooper is always slow to react if plan A isn’t working.

Good point Thorny... the point of my posts is that everyone has stated Pearson outsmarted Cooper with his tactical change... actually sort of forced as he had to withdraw Towler who actually should have been sent off. It appears at half time he tweaked formation to 4-5-1...was this tactical or better suit the personnel he now had on the pitch? HE could have made this switch after 30 mins of the first half surely as he could see his team was being battered. I remember Guidolin doing the same during the first half at the Liberty when we played Chelsea he started with 5 at the back but changed it before half time....it was the game which led to "Taylorgate" At any rate the switch didnt prevent us from taking the lead though it stopped them being overun. What we dont know is what would have happened had we not gifted them the equaliser?....This as previously stated not a result of this tactical change but from poor decsion making by our captain and some poor passing....so I will blameCooper as I dont think Grimes and Hoiurihane should start together in the same side its one or the other for me ...though that starting 11 on Saturday ran Bristol City ragged so what do I know.

I’m with you on the Grimes & Hourihane point, particularly when we have Lowe & Dhanda on the pitch too - for me it’s either play Hourihane up behind Ayew which then allows for a midfield 3 of Fulton sitting, Smith box to box & Grimes picking the passes or stitch with Ayew + Lowe up top & use Hourihane from the bench.

Forest and Coventry finished like dogs and Hudds and Brizzle didnt . btw,Hudds lost 3-0 to Preston who have also been crap but not as crap as Hudds had been. You'd think by now our cooperites would have seen the light. Pearson is no mug. He saw what we were all about . To imagine Steve is remotely like a good manager is ludicrous, almost as bad as those thinking Woody is a good keeper.

We battered them throughout the first half. After the break it was very even and they edged the second half. If this was a one off I would agree with you, but it has been a pattern from Cooper sine he arrived. One good half, usually the first and then it’s like a different team comes out for the second half.

BAD It is ENTIRELY down to Steve. It is HIS team HE is the man who speaks to them at half time. Manager influence. Pearson will.McCarthy has. These two experienced managers ridiculed on here recently so frankly anything from this posse is to be ignored unless you want to get really depressed. Cooper is so full of excuses ,it's pitiful. It is NEVER his fault and in that regard he is a coward. I fear for us at Stoke and Boro will have Warnock, another old wide boy who will know exactly how to get his team prepared.

I see you're back defending the indefensible This time, explain to me why Woody persistently kicks the ball directly into touch. Is this a tactic to invite the opposition to come on to us. It's the same as Woody rolling the ball to players already pressed upon. Why invite the chance we might give ball away. Why is Woody so slow at taking a goal kick even when we need to up the ante and are chasing the game. Why does Steve look so clueless? If I am wrong, explain why and what his face does for you. Imagine being a player and looking for inspiration. You're on a loser here ,matey and when Steve goes, life will go on ,believe me. Finally, would you also disagree Steve has more love than Sousa,Jackett,Bradley,Brendan or Laudrup. Did you love ALL of these equally.?

Indefensible? We've lost 2 of the last 12. Its March and we're 4 points off automatic places, with 2 games in hand. How can the manager of the team be indefensible under those conditions!? So does Woody always kick it out to touch or does he roll it out? You can't seem to make your mind up. Would you rather he lumped it up the field everytime he had instead of trying to play out from the back? Why does his face look the way it does? Is this a wind up? Genetics I'd say if I had to give an answer. Well he's inspired them to be within a few points of automatic promotion so it must be working? Life goes on every time a manager leaves. What? Why would i love Bradley the same as Laudrup for example!? Dunno what posts you're reading if you think Cooper has more love than the likes of Rodgers. Bizarre. Your posts are getting stranger by the day.

What is it with you and this "love in" nonsense. Personally for me I think Cooper is doing an ok job given the circumstances. We are in with a real shout of automatic promotion..I still believe his bosses have given hom the target of promotion back to the PL this season just to help out on the financials even if we get relegated we get more parachute payments. Each of those managers have had their fair share of "love" and "hate" from the fan base Sousa was judged against ROberto and though he played some defensive football just us closer to the play off zone than Roberto Jackett well I think people were "fond " of him he got us success yrt fell at the final hurdle to get us to the Championship In firness Brendan could do no wrong....Laudrup cam in for a lot of stick in his second season, then the slide began...I will be honest I had no love for Bradley....and how you could compare hom withj Cooper is a joke, just the sa,e as comparing Coops with Laudrup! Again watch the highlights.....Cooper and his assisitant are seen ion converstaion following the penalty obviuosly discussing what to do....only for Grimes to have a brain fart and then we found ourselves on equal terms again. You are being personal ....judging Steve by his physucal appearance .....and therefore making assumptions on his mental abilty Like others before him Cooper will undoubtedly move on...either being pushed or jumping ship....as in the past Swanse City FC will continue and move on to another chapter but until then I will continue to support my team and its manager....Cooper has his faults I agree but he is not the hapless inept manager so many on here keep harping on about especially after games like Saturday quick with the comments of how he was "outsmarted" by Pearson ....evn though he actually wasnt but that does not suit the agenda and narrative of those on here who are so "anti-Cooper" that they "slant" the actual evidence to support their claims even though it proves the opposite.

What is it with you ? The rest is typical misplaced fan love
