https://www.opendemocracy.net/

Question for you right wing thinking people states such as Saudi Arabia right or left thinking

I'd hazard guess at very right wing

No, they are not right wing politically. They are an Islamic dictatorship run by their "Royal Family".
Even right wing people believe in some kind of democracy.
But they are technically extreme right wing where state religion is concerned, as are every country that dictates one religion is.

Well, just so we are clear, when the people who share that Islamic culture move here they all vote Left.
I know, it doesn't make any sense.
The cognitive dissonance is tough on you I bet Jimbo.

Don't know about you but I work with people of all religious beliefs and those without belief and I can say hand on heart the Muslim people I work with are the most genuine people care is in their DNA

And without Muslim people our nhs would collapse

People are people Jim.
Compassion is in everyone's "DNA".

If there was something special about Muslim people why then are the countries that have Muslim majorities such a violent, unhappy, mess (when compared to the West)?

It is about ideology. If Islam becomes the dominant religion in this country what do you think that would mean for our every day life Jim?

So just so we are clear when countries like Saudi Arabia are called ultra Conservative that's right wing correct

Islamic state ultra Conservative

I know it's hard for some of you to acknowledge but it's fact

You are not differentiating between politics, economics and religion.
Saudi Arabia is a Kingdom, hence there is little in the way of politics, economics are based on their Oil and they are ultra Conservative because of their royalty and state religion.

Put it this way there are more catholics than any other faith in the UK these days but the CofE is still regarded as the religion of the country.

Personally I've no problem with that as a Catholic I do have issues with the fact that a Catholic can't be our monarch

This debate aside, you are obviously the REAL DEAL when it becomes to your socalist beliefs, full credit there. Your charity endeavors are superb. Rather yourself and similar than the 'professional' types who are there just to ride the gravy train like Arthur Scargill and John Prescott what with the controversy about their 'flats' and Champaign socialist ways . Ditto the Kinnocks and Derek Simpson etc who did rather well out of it all.

The monarch can’t both be head of the COE and subservient to the pope.

Can you point me to a country where Islam is the majority but minorities rights are respected?
Are you ok with your Grandkids growing up in a country that has an Islamic culture instead of a Judeo-Christian culture with British traditions?

Would you like to have grown up in such a country?

You are a naive little lamb Jim.

This is a fear that niggles away with me. I fear that the peace loving Muslim's will soon change their spots but is that irrational? It is down to what we see on the news and I guess I rationalise it by thinking they are all terrorists. Some of the rudest behaviour I have experienced has been from women in burqa's. Maybe some of them are naturally rude or maybe they have experienced diabolical racism and distrust any western types.
I agree with most of what Jim says about muslim terrorists not being left oriented. Just because the majority of Muslim's vote for the Labour party that doesn't mean the Muslim terrorists are lefties.
One of my associates has always said why worry about whether or when the dominant religion in UK is Islam as we will be long dead. I worry for my ancestors being subjugated to oppression but I also know that is probably unrealistic.

Many religions have fundamentalists whether they believe in praying to a statue of a women who gave birth as a virgin with child provided by God or the wonderful Allah who was quite happy to carry on treating women as men's property and to keep them seperate.

Islam is fundamentally misogynistic as is Christianity.

People need to read and understand what is actually written in the Bible .

A clear example is homosexuality which is not illegal or criminalised in a number of islamic majority countries (including Indonesia) but is in many christian countries where it is (often brutally) oppressed.

It's easy to make a statement without fact or based on alt right lies.

Homosexuality has never been illegal in modern Turkey a large and relatively liberal Islamic country (since founded in 1926), but male homosexual acts were illegal in the UK until 1967 and in some US states (I'll leave you guess) until 2003. Homosexuality is now illegal once more in India.

Whilst it's clear some islamic regimes (usually the ones we support) are very restrictive so are many other countries who are Christian, Hindu whatever.

Religion is always a big source of conflict. We spent centuries imposing ours on much of the world.

The bible was written over hundreds of years by loads of different people so there are inevitably so many contradictions it becomes ludicrous. For example In one book drinking alcohol is a sin but then later on in another book Jesus magically conjures up enough wine to get five thousand people pissed. Then it’s said his blood is literally red wine (13% proof what a pisshead) and you have to drink it in order to join the church.

Thou shalt not kill but then it tells you to stone someone to death for coveting your ass or something.

No wonder everyone is so confused.

If Christianity and Islam are basically the same, why then are the societies of the Judeo-Christian West so very different to the societies of Islam?

I think that people need to read and understand books in general, especially History and the testimony of those who have actually lived the life that people in this country can merely pontificate about.

'Prof' (lol) is far far worse than a 'Shameless liar'.

Bitter and twisted, in so many ways.

She resorts to name calling just as soon as she realises she's fluffed her lines. Always.

Most recently she's got away with insulting/abusing with adjectives such as 'snake', 'divvy', 'knuckle (dragger)' and got away with it. So far. Stuff that most of us intelligent types steer clear from nowadays, out of respect of this forum.

She doesn't belong on a Swans fans forum. In so many ways.

They clearly think and rightly that the right wing are the nutjobs

You'll find these days most terrorists are right wing nutjobs

Yesterday, a BLM activist...a man who has been celebrated by the Left and has regularly appeared in the media, he was a guest on Joy Reid's show on US News network MSNBC...walked into the office of a Jewish man (a Democrat) running to be mayor for Louisville and shot him 4 times.

The BLM nutjob is called Quintez Brown.
The Democrat he shot is called Craig Greenberg.

BLM can't account for $60m they received in donations.

Who are the nut jobs Jimbo? Tell us again...

Hmmm not sure about that one there Prof. Being illegal and not being allowed are very similar things, to say homosexuality is not illegal in Indonesia isn’t really giving the full picture.

The bill submitted to Indonesian parliament is rather shocking, which states they must be forced into ‘rehab’. Police have been arresting gay people for a long time using other laws such as the pornography laws.

So while technically there is no specific law against homosexuality, to present it as perfectly fine and accepted by the authorities probably isn’t anywhere close to accurate.

I think there are a dozen places where homosexuality is punishable by death, it changes all the time with certain moratoriums, but at last reading they were all Muslim counties.

When you are talking about Christian countries, it may probably best that you ensure you are giving a picture of what kind of Christian countries you are talking about, it’s usually small islands and/or underdeveloped places in reality, while not an excuse - it does show context.

The Cook Islands, Kiribati, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu etc are Christian countries that make homosexuality illegal. Oceanic islands essentially, some of which are extremely underdeveloped and don’t have regular widespread contact with the wider world. There are a handful in Eastern Africa and a handful in the Caribbean too.

The main regions which make homosexuality illegal are much of Eastern Africa and the Middle East.

Huge strides have been made in America and the U.K. and don’t think they are worthy of criticism, attitudes have changed at break neck speeds and it’s society which should be applauded for that, not chained by the ignorance of the past, it’s how we stall as a society, focussing on the past.

I would not disagree with that but the central Islamophobic argument that a Judean-Christian society is more tolerant is not borne out in many African and Caribbean countries. Nor the retrogressive steps in Russia and it’s allies. It’s more complex and more associated with Westernisation (viz Turkey and Lebanon) than merely religion.

I should stay out of this because my thoughts on religion may get me into trouble. lets say I'm, not a fan.

Islam, I can respect it more than Christianity because the rules are there and haven't changed. On the other hand I don't respect it much because it can be barbaric and it's badly out of date....yes like the bible I have contradictions!

Now the bible, my mother in law said her vicar told her the same as Flynnidine said, you can't take it literally because it's been re-written so many times. Surely a vicar of all people should have faith that those writing the newer versions were being guided by their god? Christianity moves with the times and these days it ignores parts of the bible people don't like such as homosexuality,

Leviticus 20:13
If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them.

All it is then is religion trying to remain relevant by ignoring it's own rule book. Islam may be practically prehistoric but at least they have faith their gods word is still law. The Muslims I have known personally have been very nice people. My own mother was a born again Christian and a complete hypocrite!

Louis Theroux exposes the dark underbelly of religious fanaticism. These good Christian people are nothing but zealots and lunatics
How can a Christian hate the Jews when the Jews are Jesus own people? How can there be so many different sects of the same religion? Only one of each can be right and the problem is, they all think they are the right one.

Religion should be kept away from schools and government.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

"Religion should be kept away from schools and government"

Absolutely, and to our credit in the UK I think we make a relatively good job of this. Although I would quite to see the back of all schools based around a particular religion.

I'm still amazed at the level of influence that evangelicalism seem to have in US politics.
