| Local elections on 09:42 - May 8 by Lorax | He doesn't care, it seems vote share doesn't matter to him. At least from the outside we can honestly say that if Plaid's vote share is falling then support for independence is falling too! |
They seem to be very slow issuing the numbers and turnout.

Its secondary vote share in our system, what matters is to win whole council's and Plaid smashed it, Plaid won the lot, putting it in perspective in General Election terms I would describe Plaid as having 5 heartland seats which they win regularly but have not won all 5 at the same time, they have won 4 at the same time more than once, these council elections Plaid could only win a maximum of 4 council's and I would say that was 100-1 against but guess what Plaid won all four, they won the lot, amazing, for years of me supporting them like a football team (looking out for their results) they missed out on seats by a few votes here and a few votes there but now they are winning by a few votes here and a few votes there.

So winning 4 of their 5 heartland seats is "amazing" eh. Vote share doesn't count, losing councillors over all doesn't count. You should really be a politicians with that level of disingenuous waffle! Lets see what the turnout was eh. lets see if Wales was more or even less invested in this vote than usual. Catrin Haf Jones is on "Politics Wales" right now, lets see what the analysis is.

Winning 4 council seats is amazing for Plaid, all 4 they could win they did win (it would have been massive odds against if priced up I'm sure, that is what a good result it was for Plaid), telling you and the board about Plaids heartland seats in General Elections is putting it into perspective, that Plaid have won the lot, they are not going to win Swansea, Cardiff or Newport.

You said there are 5 "heartland" seats, you should be hopingto win in your own heartlands. Even then, for plaid to be a true success they have to grow their support in other areas. if they cannot get people to vote for them in other parts of Wales then, A, they will never hope to take control of the Senedd B, they are not the party of Wales (except in name) because most of Wales rejects them C, even the independents, who lost councils, seem to have raised their share of the vote and gained councillors over all. The indy councillors are over 50% larger in number than Plaid at 316 versus 202. Edit, it seems turnout is down again, even more people didn't bother to vote. Welsh people are hardly bothered by politics, we carry on with our lives in spite of them. [Post edited 8 May 2022 10:22]

Practically all of the population live in Swansea, Newport and Cardiff and that is why independence is a million miles. If the population in these areas aren't interested in independence it s not going to happen. The population is far too diverse and cosmopolitan to be swayed by nationalist policies. PC can do well "in their heartlands" but while the areas may look big the population is tiny.

That is only one policy/aim (i believe it's not even been a policy at certain times just a potential aim). Plaid have had the best policies of any of the parties in my time of voting (imo), voting for Plaid is not voting for independence and if people don't vote Plaid simply because they don't like one policy more fool them, there would be polls and referendums not just straight independence, lots of Plaid members themselves would not vote for independence as things are, the public are falling for Labour, Tory and right wing media propaganda, Labour and Tories these days are very much alike in most aspects in what they stand for.

These are Plaids aims, To promote the constitutional advancement of Wales with a view to attaining independence; To ensure economic prosperity, social justice and the health of the natural environment, based on decentralist socialism; To build a national community based on equal citizenship, respect for different traditions and cultures and the equal worth of all individuals, whatever their race, nationality, gender, colour, creed, sexuality, age, ability or social background; To create a bilingual society by promoting use of the Welsh language; To promote Wales' contribution to the global community and to attain membership of the United Nations. This was their 2021 manifesto, https://merchedcymru.wales/202 There is a lot in there I disagree wth, for example, Plaid Cymru believes in a fair and just society where everyone is treated equally and enjoys the same rights and opportunities. We will press for devolution of the Equality Act 2010 to the Senedd. Yet before that they state that they want equality of outcome not just opportunity and aim for a Senedd that's 50/50 men and women. If you are saying that you will force a society where the job split is always 50/50, how is that equality f treatment? What if the best person for the job is turned down because it unbalances the numbers? I don't care if I am represented by a man or woman, by white, Black or Asian, it doesn't bother me as long as they do a good job. If somebody is shoehorned into a position purely to maintain the 50/50 split and they are rubbish, then what?
