What you think?

I think it will be a terrible idea, it will put people off coming here.

The idea that people would willingly pay more to holiday in Wales vs Devon, Cornwall or Scotland is bonkers.

Of course, keeping the English out would appeal to those who propose it, the bigoted little losers that they are.

You are right, the tourism industry will have to cover the tax to remain competitive wages and jobs will, in turn, be indirectly adversely affected.

Those at the Senedd seem incapable of identifying the systemic effects of a policy change or a new policy.

We see it all the time, like when I asked kilkenny questions about the Senedd and he chose deflection and whataboutery, to try and shift the focus to Westminster.

It is ideological lunacy except the ideology isn't supporting Labour, it is just hating Westminster and the English.

Personally I think our museums are pretty poor too. St Fagans is OK but nothing original unless you're specifically looking at Welsh life. Only the Welsh are interested. Our competitors are those in London.

Castles? We have a lot of them but they're ruins on the whole. Just go to Warwick Castle. We could have done that.

I don't holiday in Wales. I came back from Cornwall yesterday. Everything was better as a holiday destination. Brenda and Keith would love it.

Our museums are bloody awful.

If you're English and buy or rent a bnb in say Morfa Nefyn, you face hostility for the language you speak for a start, now a tax just to have the pleasure of being insulted as you put money into a desperate economy.Nice innit.

Tourism brings in 34million per year.

IMO the National Waterfront Museum and the oldest museum in Wales are pretty good

But we could and should do so much better.

Lets look at the D day landing zones, parts of the "Atlantic Wall" have been turned into living museums. They give factual, raw information about WW2 and they draw in a lot of visitors. Visit Swansea's version of a WW2 museum ( a small exhibit inside the actual museum) and it's over in a few minutes with very little sense of what WW2 was about. It should be so much better.

It's so uninspiring. These days people expect a lot more.

Wales is damp
When fine, beaches are the place to be
When inclement the place not to be

This is why Swansea and other towns need attractions for rainy weather.

That is entirely the point, we could and should do so much better.

We need to give people reasons to come here when the weather isn't great.

Imposing a tourist tax is the opposite of that, it'll drive people away.

If it goes through, Bath will be the first city to introduce the tourist tax at £1 per night.

In this model, I don’t think people would be turned off, especially if they can point to how the money has been effectively used.

This may point Wales in the right direction (whatever that is).

At least going through consultation is the sensible way to do it.

Unless the tourist tax went into a fund and was all spent on improving tourist attractions in Wales. Which would increase the tourists and therefore the tax. Better still if this was matched pound for pound by the Senedd who should be making these improvements anyway, instead of channeling all their funds into East Wales.
