I think that's a clear issue with posters on here, they lose that connection with the club and wether its conscious or subconsciously then go into a defeatist type attitude towards the club and become that stereotypical armchair fan. I posted a few weeks ago that sales of tickets were up compared to last year, if I don't post that then this thread doesn't get started in my eyes, maybe I am wrong but I am pretty sure it's the case. As for fans not renewing that is their chouce but saying the football is poor and in some cases its the worse football in 30/40/50 years of the football club, I really can't fathom it! Last season we were the 4th highest goalscoring team from open play in the league.......i don't think I really need to add anything on that. I think fans are certainly struggling to adapt to how things are presently at the club after the previous 15 years or so of success. There has been a lot toys thrown out of the pram, I could accept it from the new breed of fans but some on here have been going long before those, goes to show how fickle man can be. As for myself, I haven't bought a season ticket but I never have, I will be split between the prawn sandwich box brigade and going with my boy.....i pay when I go with my boy and its gratis when I go in the box so financially it evens it all out but I can certainly appreciate why some fans won't be renewing because of finances taking all the price hikes in the country presently. That's my say on the matter.

| Season ticket sales well down on last season on 22:50 - Jun 13 by Dr_Parnassus | What do you base that on? A large proportion of our shots this season have been from long range. I can’t remember another season with so many shots from outside the box, which by their very nature aren’t great chances. Thankfully we have had the likes of Piroe who have been very productive with them. There is a reason nobody would answer the question of how many had been sold… The club usually shouting about it on socials if sales are going well. They have been quiet, very quiet. |

If somebody posts last season was the worst football they have seen & have followed the club for plus 30 years I take it with a pinch of salt. Their memory must be shot.

It wasn’t but the lack of leadership and accountability all over the pitch stymied us. Whether that was down to Martin giving ultra strict instructions on how to play and players being afraid to think for themselves I’ve no idea.

You have a stat for good chances? The only thing that comes close to that is xG. Last season we were 16th in xG. 1.32 xG per game. Under the two Cooper seasons combined we averaged 12th with an xG of 1.325 per game. So from the only stat regarding the standard of chances created that we have, it was demonstrably higher under Cooper than under Martin. Of course our defence was also demonstrably better. It was the worst football seen in a Swans jersey since the very early 2000’s. Worst in 20 years for sure, maybe not worst in 30.

Doesn’t mean the OP is “defeatist”. A big song and dance was made on here about us selling more season tickets than last season, there were questions regarding how many, but deathly silence in return. It caused a bit of confusion because the club is usually all over that kind of thing in terms of the PR game. So now the OP has been told it isn’t true, why do you think he shouldn’t post it to correct what has been said? That’s not defeatist, it’s him stating what he believes the actual truth of the matter is. Saying we were the 4th highest scorers from open play doesn’t really cover what we saw, which is probably why you said you would not expand on it. We were outscored by nigh on half the league and conceded more goals than all but 5 other teams. It was a poor, poor season.

| Season ticket sales well down on last season on 11:57 - Jun 14 with 1898 views | herbie | Last season our xG was slightly higher than the previous one being the last one under Cooper and when we still had the benefit of parachute payments so Martin has done really well to more than match that in his first season and without any parachute money. We can push on from here. | | | |

Parachute payments aren’t really a benefit if you can’t use them for on field purposes. £8m income last season which simply covered lost revenue from match days due to Covid. Unless we brought in loans under Cooper we pretty much had to stick with what we had and get the best out of them. xG under Cooper was higher than under Martin, it’s dropped below Martin and been way above - but on average it was higher.

It’s irrelevant really isn’t it? We don’t watch football for xG, we watch it and specifically one side over all others because we wish for that side to be successful. You do that by finishing as high as you possibly can and winning as many points as you can. xG doesn’t come into it, whether he can find it or not. If he can surpass the xG of Cooper but still has us shipping goals, playing this idiotic style and finishing in the bottom half - he needs to be given the boot. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a football fan say they support a football club to climb the xG ladder.

If it was up at the time that would mean they were essentially sold out, right? Which means us now being “well down” on last season would seem unlikely if the initial post were correct. It would pretty much mean we haven’t sold another since. At the time of the post, 12 months prior we had sold 12,500 out of 14,000. So if we are “well down” on last season at the moment then that would logically say that the initial information was incorrect. It’s extremely unlikely that both statements can be true. It would be one or the other. Considering the lack of fanfare from the club up to this point where as they are usually shouting about sales if they go well… I find the first information hard to comprehend especially given the season we had. Would be interesting to get some official word on it.

I would like to add that thousands this time last year had cheap season tickets because we left our money in during covid, I paid £79. This could have pushed last seasons numbers up.

Going to be a lot feeling the bite of all the price rises this year. Even for me i cant make all yhe games due to work/family. Cant really spend £350 to not know what games i can make. Judging by the thread getting a ticket when i can shouldn't be a problem though.

| Season ticket sales well down on last season on 20:58 - Jun 13 by herbie | Shots and shots on target have been more or less the same the last 3 seasons but this last season our big chances created were much higher. |
So were our goals conceded and goals created for the opposition by suicidal passes not to mention our points dropped from winning positions and our plumeting league positions.

| Season ticket sales well down on last season on 20:43 - Jun 13 by guthrieintherain | The trouble with Russ last season was he cared more about his project than winning. Which is not acceptable. On a seperate note why is it I get the impression that the sides we can realistically outbid on players are few and far between. We really are hunting for scraps can't even claim that we are treading water we appear to be going backwards. And yes I have renewed my season ticket. [Post edited 13 Jun 2022 20:46]

I have raised the same point. looking at who we are linked with, Troy Parrot being the latest I've seen, they often seem to be players from MK in one guise or another, or lower down the ladder, cheap, bargain bucket players. Bearing in mind the players we had when Martin arrived and those he signed (and I'm definitely thinking Fisher mostly, but the loanees too) is he a very good judge of a player? Anyway, back on topic, nobody should be surprised if ST sales are actually down over all. People were broke 6 months ago and look at how prices have shot up. We ordered 2 new windows and a new front door this week, from a company we've used before, the same salesman told us prices had risen so much that the door by itself had gone up 60%. The 2 windows,12 months back we could have gotten them AND the door for the price of the windows. Petrol is over 1.86 per litre and still rising. Our food shop has risen by over 40%. People don't have the money. I'm just hoping the car flies thru its MOT next week! We have our seasons but quite honestly I can think of more important things that 400 quid could be spent on and while the rising prices haven't caught up with our income yet, a lot of people are in the mire and looking to cut back. It wont only be Swansea who see smaller ST sales and smaller crowds, a lot of clubs will feel this pinch.

Aye, I think most individuals priorities will be to the family and the family home as opposed to watching millionaires/future millionaires kick a bag of wind about! I reckon other stuff like SKY and Netflix subscriptions will way be down also come the start of next season?

With everything going up and providing people don't overstretch, season tickets are well priced with relatively low increases over the years.

My eneghbour is a Villa season ticket holder. There are lots around here as their father's came to the area to build the Elan Valley dams and never went back. He pays £700 for his seat, and they have 27000 on the waiting list for season tickets. People, if they are passionate enough, somehow find the money. I don't know how.
