Committees standards should be very interesting. Be fascinated to see what Lord Pannick QC’s brief asked him to advise on and how they can justify a £150,000 brief fee

Yes absolutely. Psychopathy doesn’t always mean someone is evil. A lot of very successful people have elements of psychopathy. Johnson is charming, manipulative, he’s quite funny, no doubt a brilliant after dinner speaker, I liked him when he was mayor of London. He has an incredible sense of self preservation, refusing to resign when a lot of people would have gone and does not hesitate to blame other people for his faults but protects people (eg Patel and her bullying’ ) when he needs them. He’s surrounded himself by those who agree with him and gets rid of those who threaten him (Gove, Soubrey, etc)

I’m not a fan of his, but certainly his supporters have a cult like devotion and can get very nasty when people speak out against him. It was Corbyn and Brexit that got the Tories their huge majority

Mayor of London was about the limit of Johnson's capability. Family I've got up in the Smoke speak quite highly of his tenure there. Certainly better than they do of Khan. His entire public persona, "Boris" if you will is a carefully calculated act though. He's far smarter than his opponents accept and far more devious than his supporters will admit.
| Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back. |

Chap I know organised a dinner where he turned up with minutes to spare, taxi broken down, lost his notes. Went straight on and had to look behind him to see the organisation that he was speaking for and went on to give a brilliant off the cuff speech. No notes, really funny. Standing ovation. He was at another dinner, 6 m or so later where Johnson was the speaker and he did exactly the same thing. Same mistakes, same forgetting where he was. It’s sham.

His self preservation is based purely on a lack of honour and accountability. He will lie, and did lie to maintain power and authority. He has a sycophantic following and in my humble opinion is a very dangerous and devious person. Then again I maintain a vision of him stranded on a zip wire waving two Union Jack flags.

The US replaced an idiot with an incompetent, we will probably see a similar situation.

Not uite so much Bojo winning the majority as the cult of Corbyn throwing some voters at him then. Corbyn suporters can't see it though.

| New PM on 18:18 - Sep 4 by Sirjohnalot | "normal" people.? No Sir ,inappropriate word. Alwasy as bad as the patronising "ordinary person" Very fair point, I agree, everyone is unique and the word ‘normal ‘ can be patronising, it wasn’t meant that way, but certainly could come across like it. If it helps, I certainly put myself in that bracket and was certainly brought up in a ‘normal’ house with normal parents but of course one persons normal is another’s meat or poison. I should have said ‘people very different from them’. You’re right to call me out on that, I agree. I did say though that this government does not represent the Tory party but the far right of it. There are some very decent and honourable tories, including my one. ‘Remember this, after briefly meeting you I reckon your interlect is a level about that of Patel and several above Johnson and that is what counts. Never ever be intimidate by posh, not in the slightest way. In a Courtroom, don't forget you would savage Boris and Pity Patel and rip their innards apart ‘ That’s very kind, not sure who true it is but very kind nonetheless. I’m certainly not intimidated by anyone, lots of folk in law school were from private schools, criminal can be proper trench warfare. I enjoy it, especially when someone is lying. Johnson would be any lawyer’s dream. I agree re some of Labour. I don’t understand the ‘Keith’ brigade on the far left. I’ve seen some if them ripping into our very decent Tory councillor for no reason other than being a conservative. It’s horrible to see. They’re no different to the Trump/Johnson cult. |
Decent reply Jon Im glad I made my point clearly, for a change. My upbringing was more problematic than yours but to be independently minded and be yourself was hammered into me. It's stayed with me. My section took Mike Heseltine around Toxteth just after the riots and he was a very impressive looking man who had a mellifluous voice but we got on just fine although many of his "team" were cowed in his company .

You can't say that mun, Starmer is going to save the UK, if he ever gets a chance. Liz Truss has only just been announced as Prime Minister, already the usual suspects slagging her off before she has a chance to do anything, give the woman a chance FFS.

I’d agree. He’s a sharp cookie and knows his stuff, but in my opinion he doesn’t have the charisma which will appeal to the masses. Boris has personality, but that came with baggage. Saw some historic footage of Tony Blair at PMQs a week or so ago, I don’t like the guy but I have to give him credit because he was very good, he was polished and destroyed whoever was opposite him. He’d tear the current crop to shreds. That said, I’d rather someone honest, boring and competent as opposed to a dishonest dodgy salesman type with the gift of the gab.

I've got a mate who would have gladly snapped her up.....at ten minutes to closing. It was his rule, if he hadn't pulled by then, grab any single woman no matter how they looked. How he never caught anything nasty is beyond me. Anyway. never mind who wuld or wouldn't, what will Truss do to help us? Or will she do the typical tory thing and do something she says will help but ends up funnelling millions to tory backers?
