Good grief, my prediction about there being a GE within 18 months and getting rid of Truss for Johnson to return may be right.

Committees standards should be very interesting.

Be fascinated to see what Lord Pannick QC’s brief asked him to advise on and how they can justify a £150,000 brief fee

In reality either the standards committee will do for him or he will get bored and move into after dinner speaking which I’m sure he’ll be brilliant at.

If he does try to come back, it’ll put those MPs who handed letters in, in a very difficult position. What do they do ?

They have better comedy value than the wheeltappers and shunters club.

Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

Truss or Sunak what a choice. It’s a bit like being violently buggered by a gorilla, you know it’s going to be bad but at least you’ve got the choice of whether he wears lipstick or not.

It’s going to be Truss, isn’t it?

The predictions for her new cabinet are pretty depressing…

At least Patel has apparently gone, but she is said to be keeping Dorries, JRM bringing in Braverman. Massively to the right. No spot for Mercer.

She’s sold herself to the ERG, against what I think she believes, knows most MPs did not vote for her. Prefect for Labour. Weak PM, divided party, very hard times, normal people in trouble. If they play it right and the left of the party don’t stab him in the back, we could have a labour government in a couple of years.

Incredible looking at the last election

I admire your optimism SJA but under Starmer nothing will significantly change. Which is what the country desperately needs, not private enterprise trampling all over the middle classes, not to mention those already deep in poverty.

The Tories will almost certainly lose the next election whenever it is , they know it , kicking out Boris was to limit damage at the next election , he won't be coming back anytime soon but someday who knows , the only Tory who looked half decent was rory Stewart , who started out in the labour party , he was forced out by Boris , wouldn't mind seeing him return to labour

Not sure that’s fair. Need to give the guy a chance. People like Johnson want us to think ‘they’re all the same ‘, some are but not all. Stewart, Gauke, Cooper, Jess Phillips. Want to make things better.

At this point even though i don't like Starmer or the current Labour party we are going to be clamouring for them in a few weeks.

The problem is that the cult of personality is taking over British politics much in the same way as the USA. The media must take much of the blame.
Politicians are not being properly held to account for whatever policy they promote but more for their looks and showmanship. This is how Johnson got away with it for so long.

Too right that is not fair.
Rory Stewart was a shocking loss to Tory hopes a he really is one who give a shite and has been at the coalface,so to speak.
Not all Tories are scum which is the case with Labour too..

Class war won't help

Time was plenty of unposh,"ordinary" ,people voted Conservative. My wife's best friend's dad was one wjo lived in a council house and lived from hand to mouth as you did then and always voted Tory as he was always in work with them .

Sooner we abandon this hatred of "posh" the better.

Problem we have is when we’re faced with people like Johnson. Mogg, Patel who are posh and clearly don’t care about normal people you can see why people have that perception.

The current government isn’t a fair reflection of a normal Tory party, but when you hear Truss talking down ‘handouts’ and their obsession with ‘woke’ makes you cringe.

But that is what Truss in particular is trying to do. She is cloning herself as a Margaret Thatcher.
Will be interesting to see what the Press will make of her when she is elected Leader. And she will be.

Hang on a minute there my learned friend.
"normal" people.? No Sir ,inappropriate word. Alwasy as bad as the patronising "ordinary person" which both parties use.It disgustes me and bothers me why we accept such drivel. All of us are special;who are they to call us average. Many in care homes are refered to a "average" ,"normal" when in fact they are extraordinary and anything but the normal that passes for politicians and sorry but Labour is not immune .Witness ,middle class trash like the Corbyns and their paean for the "working people" that keep THEM in a job.

Sorry,Im that annoyed,Ive lost my drift now but I am not having Conservative voters and ALL Tory MPs avaged like this.

Finally,Patel -"posh" really!

Remember this, after briefly meeting you I reckon your interlect is a level about that of Patel and several above Johnson and that is what counts. Never ever be intimidate by posh, not in the slightest way. In a Courtroom, don't forget you would savage Boris and Pity Patel and rip their innards apart

I am rudimentarily educated but I reckon I could hold my own against many Tory "posh" in any discourse they like so it's why I don't bend the knee to them.

As regards Labout, I can't take many seriously enough.

Very fair point, I agree, everyone is unique and the word ‘normal ‘ can be patronising, it wasn’t meant that way, but certainly could come across like it. If it helps, I certainly put myself in that bracket and was certainly brought up in a ‘normal’ house with normal parents but of course one persons normal is another’s meat or poison. I should have said ‘people very different from them’. You’re right to call me out on that, I agree.

I did say though that this government does not represent the Tory party but the far right of it. There are some very decent and honourable tories, including my one.

That’s very kind, not sure who true it is but very kind nonetheless. I’m certainly not intimidated by anyone, lots of folk in law school were from private schools, criminal can be proper trench warfare. I enjoy it, especially when someone is lying. Johnson would be any lawyer’s dream.

I agree re some of Labour. I don’t understand the ‘Keith’ brigade on the far left. I’ve seen some if them ripping into our very decent Tory councillor for no reason other than being a conservative. It’s horrible to see. They’re no different to the Trump/Johnson cult.

In relation to politics, normal and ordinary simply means the vast majority of us. It doesn't mean the EPL (or other sports) superstars, the billionaires or the politicans themselves. it means those like us on this website, thats all.

I saw today that a group of Tory MP's are lining up with letters of no confidence in whoever wins, not a good look for them. It looks certain to ne Truss and she needs to dig deep and do the right thing and stop using stupid words like handouts!

The government would be better off bying the gas themselves and then sellig it onto the providers at lower prices. yes it puts debt on the tax payer but surely its cheaper than throwing a few hundred quid at every house and it helps everybody then too.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Totally agree with you about putting those MP’s who resigned MP’s in awkward position, but being the slippery snakes they are I’m sure they’ll find a way of justifying a change in position if bringing Boris back will keep the Conservatives in power and saving their skins. We’re in a strange situation, a significant number of the Conservative Party members and some MP’s want Boris to stay, but outside of those groups a significant proportion of the general population and a lot of his own MP’s want him out.

Boris will cast a very big shadow over Truss and her government. If he believes he has been unfairly treated and is intent on seeking redress he could well be a big thorn in her side. A potential option for Truss to deal with the Boris issue is to allow the Select Committee Investigation to progress without interference or manipulation. If Boris is found guilty by the select committee, then he could be suspended, trigger a recall petition etc, etc. This would prevent Boris standing against her in a future leadership contest, protect the ministers who resigned and will enable MP’s to save face by avoiding an onslaught from the press, public and Labour Party. We may even see a few damaging leaks appearing which will further tarnish Boris. I suspect this will be taking place whilst the country is facing strife and unrest.
