| Is the patience finally paying off!? on 18:46 - Oct 9 by vetchonian | We are playing nothing like we did before Keith.....the stats even show it 50% possession yesterday and we scored 2 goals and created lots of other chances I recall sitting through games where we had 70% or more possession and as Russ said we "dominated" the game yet lost or failed to score. Let's not pretend patience with the "process" has paid off the "process" has been dropped we are no longer playing Martinball as his vision he is playing sensible attractive attacking football Martin has realised his "way" wasnt working and has adapted ....its taken him 3 seasons mind! |
So, before it was Martinball, and now under the same manager it isn’t ? I have to add he has been at Swansea 15 months.

| Is the patience finally paying off!? on 19:05 - Oct 9 by magicdaps10 | It's become more of a personal battle on here in regards to being right rather than what's the best in regards to understanding the position Swansea City are in. Once we lost that play off final against Brentford then things were going to chance......patience and understanding was key and hopefully Martin has now built a foundation that allows us to grow again. Its about Swansea City and always has been. |
It is about Swansea City which is why I get passionate had we carried on with Martins way we may have found ourselves in Lg1 next season.... The issue is so many of us were "persecuted" for the criticisim of our manager when we pointed out his "style" of play was fraught with problems. For whatever reason things have changed and you are right there probably is a personal battle but its more so from those who were huge advocates of Martin and now will not admit things have changed.....there has been a huge departure form the philosophy of play he was so belligerent about. Things have changed if they hadnt Martin could well have joined the other 8 managers who have have been sacked already so far this season in the Championship. Managers come and go ...but the adulation Martin has received given the lack of achievement plus bringing close to relegation has been incredible.... I have been vocal against Martin in the past because I care about the Swans...We have a squad which was better than the position we finished last season and where we found ourselves 4 games ago some fands on here even advocated relegation form the Championship as part of a "reset" so crazy.... It has been proven recently by recent results following the change in playing style that we do have a squad capable of being in the top six. We can spend hours debating this daps . No one ever doubted the position we were in following the play off final BUT as many said we had a squad which was capable of far more than the manager was achieving thankfully now we seem to be competing as we should be ,,,it is aboiut Swansea City but some seemed to have put Russel before that

We no longer play "Martinball" as his previouys vision so now we have a new version of "Martinball" The way we currently play is nothing like how we were set up to play last season.

SO you think we are still playing the same way now as we were last season or at the start of this season? Are we still trying to keep the ball and make the opposition run around until they stop running? We havent had 70%possesion at all in the last 4 games "Martinball" was a label given to his way of playing which he as ditched ....a bit like so many on here talked about "Cooperball" as a way of playing.....did we see that ""Cooperball" when we played Forest last season? If you cannot see that we now play in a different way to before then you obviously have little understanding of football....yes things evolve but there has been no evolution more a revolution. Amazingly there are many on this thread who recognise that change yet still there atre others who do not seem to?

"Close to relegation" you have lost me with that one. And if we hadn't lost the leads against Millwall and Stoke, we would be top of the league

Do you believe we would be top six had we continued with the way we were playing that had us in the bottom 3? The possession stats got him the job....and this was his focus always during last season You obviously dont see that he has changed his approach? As I said to Fireboy....is what we saw from Coopers Forest last season what was labelled "cooperball" here?

| Is the patience finally paying off!? on 19:44 - Oct 9 with 657 views | jack247 | It’s different to the football we were playing two months ago, but it’s still an evolution of sorts. We don’t fanny around trying to drag opponents into our bud to pass through them anymore and we lump in clear when we need to. There’s still a lot of passing football and the build up play is excellent at times. Take a look at the move that ended up with Cundle almost getting a tap in. That wasn’t unusual given how we play at the moment, but we certainly weren’t constructing moves like that before Martin was here. Also, playing out from the back, which we still do most of the time and defenders carrying the ball into midfield are very much hallmarks of a Martin team. We’ve essentially just cut out stupid, unnecessary passes and long periods of sideways possession. We’re more direct and get the ball forward quicker. | | | |
| Is the patience finally paying off!? on 19:48 - Oct 9 with 651 views | dantheswansman | I called for him to go on this very forum, i said the nonsense from the keeper, the looking for the perfect pass and possession with no purpose were terrible, he has changed all of that, i now have given him the benefit of the doubt, mainly because he has changed what was obviously the wrong tactics, he has completely removed them and look at the team, i was definitely right in my assessment at the time but he fixed it and i can only applaud him for seeing these mistakes and changing them as any good manager would | | | |

Movement and passing has improved a lot that helps the situation. There has certainly been hell of a lot of work both physically and mentally that has helped in this turnaround. The camp is certainly a lot more together and the longer they can keep Pato away from it all the better.

totally agree and I suppose this will be considered as a bit od sniping but Pato was a Martin choice he made a big deal about saying how they sought him out when they came here

Why cant people accept we are playing a different way? Martinball was a label givenn to the style and way we played previously as i said earlier you used to talk of Cooperball but did we see "Cooperball" as played here when Forest played us last season? the key thing is Martin has ditched his previous approach though he did for a period last season then reverted to type Bring out the bullys Iam waiting

Martinball is a derogatory reference. His fiercest critics, who I assume it stemmed from, won’t want that term associated with the successful football we have been playing lately.
| Is the patience finally paying off!? on 20:07 - Oct 9 with 596 views | builthjack | Martinball has evolved. All part of the process. Teach them how to pass. Then on to the next stage. Great management. Keep those fist pumps coming. The crowd stayed for them yesterday. Again. I like Martinball. As do most. | |

Cooper played totally differently with Forest. Credit to him, he played the way he felt best suited the players at both clubs. The way we play now still very much has Martins stamp on it, it’s just a more sensible, less extreme version. Unless Martinball only referred to the aspects of it we didn’t like?

If we were 22nd after 30 games I'd agree with you but it was a handful of games. The point I was trying to make we weren't as bad as that position, as our subsequent form showed
