| Is clarification required or not ? 21:40 - Oct 14 with 2968 views | KeithHaynes | OS Swansea City would like to remind supporters that it has a zero-tolerance approach to any and all forms of discrimination. There is no place for racism, discrimination or abusive language in football and the club is extremely disappointed to learn of an increase in incidents involving Swansea City supporters at recent matches against West Bromwich Albion and Sunderland. The club can confirm that it is working with West Midlands Police with regards to an allegation of racial abuse directed at a home player which took place at The Hawthorns on October 1. The club is also working with South Wales Police regarding a similar incident which occurred in our home fixture against Sunderland. Investigations are ongoing into both incidents, and anyone found guilty of using racist or abusive language will be dealt with in the strongest possible terms. The club would also like to remind supporters that everyone at Swansea City fully supports and respects the decision of clubs and players who continue to take the knee ahead of games, and the club is disappointed to learn that a small minority of Swansea City supporters booed West Bromwich Albion players who took the knee in our recent fixture at The Hawthorns. Taking the knee is an important statement of progress made and work yet to be done to remove racism from society and football, and while Swansea City players have chosen to focus instead on community action and educational programmes, everyone is firmly behind those clubs and players who continue to take the knee. We would request that supporters continue to show the same support to opposition teams who take the knee as was shown to our own players throughout the 2021-22 season. The club would like to thank everyone who reported the aforementioned incidents. It is important that football clubs and supporters alike hold one another to account and challenge unacceptable, discriminatory and anti-social behaviour. The reporting of such incidents is an example of the collective effort the club, players and fans are making in order to ensure we achieve the goal of eradicating all discriminatory behaviour in football and society, and create a welcoming environment for all supporters. Swansea City would also like to recognise and thank the huge majority of supporters who continue to impeccably represent our football club and community at both home and away matches. | |

| Is clarification required or not ? on 07:56 - Oct 15 by STID2017 | Seems to me clear that there has been unacceptable racist behaviour at the last two matches by some of our fans which has been reported and the club are rightly condemning it ? Not hard to understand. Maybe if Dr P can't see that then he needs to reread it ? Also ironic he talks about others misinterpreting yet how many times does he not understand or claim not to understand other posters points ? ""I don't understand" should be on his gravestone when he goes to a better place |
Now then. What about that being seen as slagging off Swansea . Welsh are no different to the English. We all prefer our own. It really is all about signalling

It’s not as simple as that though is it, although I appreciate you would like it to be. A condemnation is them saying they condemn it - and that’s all. This is them reiterating to the wider fan base that it’s not allowed. We know. It’s done to virtue signal. If condemnation of a crime was the goal then they would do it with every crime such as violence in the stadium. They don’t because you don’t get social brownie points for publicly harping on about that - yet it is a more serious crime and probably happens more frequently. And surely it matters what was said? Resolven seems to think someone saying “sheep shag*er” is racist, many people disagree. What if the reports came from Resolven about hearing people use that phrase? I got called racist because I said Rashfords crap penalty was crap. People have been called racist for disagreeing with taking the knee. What if the complaints were regarding things like that? I’m afraid racism is a word thrown about far too cheaply these days to take it on board without question. Sorry, I’m not as easily sold on this virtue stuff as most. I need to know what was said, who was it directed to, what was the context, why the club feel the need to tell people the obvious when other crimes are ignored for public statements. Let me know the above and I’ll reassess. [Post edited 15 Oct 2022 12:16]

You mean people daring to speak the truth and have the gall to stand up to people trying to enforce their opinions on everyone else? If you don’t like my views you know what you can do, I won’t be changing them unless you can provide a sufficiently good counter. So far all I’ve heard is a load of “racism, end of” type stuff, which is the kind of nonsense that got BLM to destroy society without any resistance.

Racism is obviously bad but booing taking the knee, I guess you'd have to ask their reasons for doing so. Making a racist remark to an individual has always seemed perticularly dumb to me, we alway have non white players in our team, what do they think when they hear one of our fans abusing an oppo player of the same ethnicity? There always were and always will be the brain dead though, and after a certain amount of alcohol even normally placid people can behave badly, I know because I've been there. Alcohol and away days can be a bad mixture. Even the rugby fans are complaining about it these days.

Indeed, without anyone knowing what was said how anyone can make any definitive statement I do not know. From what they candidly say in their statement, it does appear it could well be people booing taking the knee or something of that nature - and people reporting that as racist. I don’t think that it racist in the overwhelming majority of cases, if not essentially all cases. As you say, we will need to know their reasons for doing so. I’d hazard a guess that it’s due to it’s clear and continued links with BLM. In the last few weeks Candace Owens has exposed them for what many of us have been saying for years. Fraudulent, criminal, racist and poisonous organisation that should be nowhere near our club/ground and any symbology synonymous with them should be scrapped with immediate effect - it should have long ago anyway.

| Is clarification required or not ? on 13:03 - Oct 15 with 734 views | Whiterockin | BLM has not affected me in any way shape or form. Either at football matches or in everyday life. You get the very odd racial remark, but they are few and far between, far less obviously than 40 years ago. Players taking the knee I couldn't care either way, there was the odd boo but mostly applause as the crowd supported the players in what they wanted to do. Has it changed anything, not as far as I can see personally, but I'm not interested in what nutters post online. | | | |

I booed when our players were taking the knee, because I disagreed with it (the reasons have been well discussed on this site). Very slowly, but surely the right to disagree, is being taken away.

You are better than that John. Very disappointing indeed. All you had to say was “to be fair Dr P, I hadn’t considered that”. What I have said is perfectly fair and certainly not anything that needs “biting”. You have realised you have absolutely no idea what the accusation is and that in all likelihood it is someone booing the knee. You would then have to justify how that is racist, which you obviously can’t. This is why people need to stop jumping in to this nonsense with little information, you quickly end up in a position where you exit post haste, or own up to jumping in too quickly. Which is the virtue signalling day and age in a nutshell - and why everyone is backtracking at breakneck speed after their initial two feet first leaps onto the BLM coat-tails.

Correct. PayPal released a policy to fine any of their users $2000+ if they said anything they disagree with on their social media. How bonkers is that? “Racism” and in particular “discrimination” is a very broad brush these days, intentionally so. As soon as it is uttered people feel they simply cannot question it. However usually once you dig a little deeper there is far more than meets the eye. Calling people racist was the very easy go-to to protect BLM, that card has been taken away in recent months and is no longer effective. It seems the club didn’t get the memo.

Consider how this affects a 14 -15 yer old brain. Swansea fans are exceptionally enthusiastic in engaging in this filth. It is acceptable only to minority of Welsh people with low intellect (or people with a tolerance for low intellect narratives simply to empathise with their mates) . The thing about racists its they do not recognise it. Bulgarians making monkey noises are "engaging in banter" according to them. A few tears and quivering lower lip of a young "person of colour" player is character building to them. Welsh fans singing racist filth now "controls the narrative" apparently. Wrong they are enthusiastically engaging in it. It is high time the South Wales constabulary take a few fans in for advice and guidance. Zero tolerance is the buzz words.

Never understood why hate songs against English or Cardiff are tolerable and just banter ( notable that Burnley fans next to us yesterday were singing similar songs about Blackburn), yet songs against other races are ( correctly) unacceptable ? Even that awful "Run from the Russians" was loud and clear yesterday. Short memories and unaware ness of current situations some people have. Glad to see Sean from Red Lion telling a few young scrotes to behave in the very welcoming Burnley Cricket Club before the game yesterday

Yeah, that young lad who came into the room we were in and said 'you've all got to come int here' and was completely ignored. Really great welcome from the Burnley fans (crap hot dogs at 1/2 time though, far bigger scandal than the 4-0. I blame Russell...Martin Out)
