| And they ask why Wales votes labour on 08:31 - Oct 27 by trampie | No I'm not saying people should be paid a similar wage irrespective of what job they do but the disparity between top earners and minimum wage is too great. We have gone from one of the most equal societies pay gap wise in Europe/Western World to one of the most unequal society's pay gap wise after decades of Conservative and NuLabour rule we need to get back to being a fairer more just society. We now live in a 'me me me' society which is very disappointing to see. |
You are correct. The gap between rich and poor has never been greater. It was at it's narrowest in 78, during the so called terrible 70s - how ironic. In effect, we have trickle up.

| And they ask why Wales votes labour on 08:11 - Oct 27 by Sirjohnalot | Again you don’t answer the question as to how much highly skilled doctors should be paid ? Yes, people who spend many years in training have sacrificed, time, social lives, receiving no wages etc in order to get where there are. I was lucky in that I was the last year (97) to get a grant for Uni, there are folk coming through in my profession with £50-£60,000 plus debt from university, doctors will be likewise if not more. How is that subsidised ? When I did my Solicitors qualification (lpc) in 2002 it costs £8,000 for a one year course. It is now around £15,000 ! May I ask you this ? We have a shortage of doctors and nurses in this country, many have left following Brexit. What is your solution to filling that void ? Obviously you would be adamantly against any person, in whatever circumstances coming over from abroad so they would have to be British (‘these people would turn their backs on their own kind…I don’t want people like that in this country ‘) . If they aren’t paid well, what do you do ? People get paid according to the scarcity of their skills. |
Any surgeon that saves lives is worth anything demands Anyone who goes through all the training and then faces the daily trauma doctors face is priceless. For anyone to question this shows deep issues . Most people who have had loved ones saved on an operating table wouldn’t be bothered if they were multi millionaires . I hope the one that saved my missus life is super wealthy ,lives in massive house and has exotic holidays that the ordinary Joe could never afford Now footballers are different who ideally should be paid a fraction of what they get .They are pretty much irrevant in the grand scheme of things . Not all doctors operate? No,but they are the ones who make crucial decisions We are not worthy

They shouldn't want their mouths filled with gold to save lives (they should be well paid absolutely) have they no decency, no moral compass, no compassion, an independent audit might find they are helping to bankrupt the NHS, it's emotional blackmail to want millions to do they job.

Yes indeed and also far too many people want more than they are worth, we can't give everybody 100k plus a year salary but lots of people expect and demand that otherwise they will use emotional blackmail that they will work in another country etc.

It used to be seen as a vocation a calling if you like, they should want to help their countrymen and fellow citizens, to be born here and have family here and be educated here and still be able to earn a good wage compared to the rest of population should be more than enough for them to want to stay, those that only care about money and would turn their back on their roots for money (when there would be enough money on the table anyway, but not as much as now) then we would be well shot of those people. |

I’ll tell you what will happen, they’ll all pack their bags and move somewhere where their skills will be appreciated a little bit more. Doctors are in high demand and they will be able to earn a lot more in places like Australia, USA, Canada, Germany, the Middle East etc. We don’t train enough doctors as it is, cutting their pay is only going to further increase the shortage. Cut the number of doctors, increase the work loads and just watch the service further deteriorate!!! Not arguing with the point you make about reducing admin staff. Doctors and consultants are better value than the Spivy MP’s and AM’s we have in power |
Absolutely agree and what do high paid people do . Spend more money, pay more tax.

No that is not really the case, trickle down doesn't work, pay them more money and they will often bank it as they already have more than enough disposable income.

Disagree sorry mate. The people I know on six figure salaries pay a hell of a lot in tax and have a disposable income which they spend well. I have no doubt you will also get the tight ones.

On the other hand, those on low income pay a higher proportion of their earnings than those on high incomes. These are the ones that need the breaks

I'm not against high pay but I am against obscenely high pay. Why should the head of an NHS trust or a Council get a bigger salary than the PM?

In that case, why do not all quit watching football especially Premier League. Salaries of 2 miliion PER MONTH are obscene and blow away any opposition for obscenity in salaries. Footballers are often ill-educated bucks barely able to string a sentence together but have egos that see them end in Court often enough.

Disagree sorry butt, trickle down doesn't work as soon as the chancellor announced huge tax giveaways to the rich I was straight on here before the press fully understood, before the markets had totally crashed saying I remember Thatcher and Regan, I seen documentaries, I read about experts reports into trickle down and it doesn't work, of course as we know it did all kicked off, the markets crashed. People know it didn't work, I knew I didn't work but the Prime Minister and Chancellor didn't know or perhaps they did and just wanted to give even more money to their already rich friends and didn't care. On a practical level, rich people might buy Swiss watches, designer gold jewelry, Italian fast cars but not cars from Dagenham or pies from the local chippy, any boost is small and in areas of luxury goods it's a failed experiment.

So what are you on about professional medical people etc being on 100k plus which is decent but not huge amount or the super rich like football players? Many people put their gonads on the line to start a business, remortgage take out loans, many fail but the ones who succeed deserve the financial rewards . Also creating work for the populace. They don't pay 40% tax!! As it happens my wife does an important job on minimum wage . I'm lucky that I earn decent money. Personally I would help lower income by increasing the minimum wage and increasing the amount you can earn before being taxed.
