| Coventry City v Swansea City 2022/23 : Matchday Thread 21:04 - Dec 12 with 18644 views | NotLoyal | Swansea City go in search of their first win since beating Cardiff City (again) The Referee for this game is Robert Jones from Liverpool, so the players had better calm down. Sorry but it’s the best we can do. Jones will be assisted by Ian Hussin and Natalie Aspinall, with Darren Bond the fourth Official for the game. Bond had lost his magical powers since he had his hair cut. Over the last 12 months Robert Jones has refereed 29 games, comprising 9 Championship games, 16 Premier League games, 1 Club Friendlies 1 game, 2 FA Cup games and 1 EFL Cup game. In addition he has been the Fourth Official 102 times. During this period he has issued 77 yellow cards at a rate of 2.66 per game and 2 red cards at a rate of 0.07 per game. PREDICT THE SCORE Just click on this old fashioned link. https://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/ Joe Allen fit for Coventry but Obafemi continues to be a timely mystery 16th Dec 2022 14:30Joe Allen is fit to face Coventry City tomorrow afternoon in the first Sky Bet Championship away game for the swans since drawing against Huddersfield Town five weeks ago. In that time two victories on a short tour of Scotland for the swans gave some hope before last weeks disappointing home loss to Norwich City. 0 Coventry City not wary of Swansea at any level 17th Dec 2022 08:00You can understand why Mark Robins and his Coventry City side are in no way apprehensive about this afternoons game against Swansea City. The sky blues are on a run of decent form and the swans really do need a win by any means necessary to get their season back on track. 0 Jekyll & Hyde Swansea City but it’s still really not working … 18th Dec 2022 08:00Yesterday afternoons game may well have been thrilling for the neutral, and let’s be honest over the ninety minutes of football a win for the swans wouldn’t have been a surprise. Unless of course you refer to the three blinding saves in the first half from Steven Benda, the poor selection choices at the start from Russell Martin or indeed the sleepiness we again witnessed at the turnaround which put the swans 2-0 down. 0 MORE WILL FOLLOW

Precisely. People act surprised when Ntcham is more effective off the bench than when he starts. The simple reason why is because when he comes off the bench we're generally chasing the game and have to be more aggressive, which suits him far more than the sedate, containing way we usually start. Yesterday he looked almost angry at how short of his wavelength half the team were. He played some lovely crossfield passes to open up space, then 5-10 seconds later we were right back where we started.

Made much the same comment towards the end of the first half. He was always the one looking for the ball and to create. He'd start breaking but more often than not his pass( maybe the only one available) ended up back in our half . It was criminal how many attacking attempts broke down due to lack of options and basic team support.

I'd be building a team around him. Playing the way that suits him best. We've tried the Grimes way and it doesn't work. Time to make some changes.

Our big problem is when we do get the ball quickly into the oppositions half we don't commit players forward enough, that makes it easier to defend against us, imo it's a trait of Martin, we need to support players in attack, it puts the defence on the back foot, it's what happened after 60 mins, Coventry never had a look in.

I don't like highlighting players but I'm fairly sure from memory that the first goal came from Grimes losing the ball in their half when there was a clear and obvious simple pass to the right. Not sure who it was but in acres of space under no pressure. Apart from a few occasions he just can't seem to do the simple things when he has time to think

A class above, he passes with intent, not a short tap, which opens the play up. Players then had more space and time to perform.

Because he is, and always has been. No, that's harsh. He is capable of good stuff, he just rarely does it. There is in general however absolutely nothing about his performances or captaincy that suggest he's worthy of playing every minute of every game, no matter how insistent his (let's face it, downright weird) acolytes are that he's a key player. Yes players like Ntcham and Naughton are of quality and can fit in that team but they need the pace around them to fuse their skills Cooper, Oko-Flex and Allen add drive and speed of play that is missing which allows others to perform to a higher standard. Could mention other players in the squad but at least start with the team that has got us points not a team that has put us on a back foot [Post edited 18 Dec 2022 14:52]

Yes, every time he got the ball he drove forward and looked for the forward pass, the Coventry players couldn't get near him, his anticipation was immense, I'd drop grimes and play joey with fulton, ntcham would excel with joey in team. [Post edited 18 Dec 2022 11:58]

He was the same under Cooper. The only coach who managed to get a consistent tune out of him offensively was Potter, and even then I'd argue that he was overrated in comparison to others like McBurnie and James that season. It looks more likely that Cooper and Martin rely on him so much precisely because he's "Mr Cautious Keep Ball". I'm sure that modern coaches can reel off plenty of reasons why a player like him is essential statistically. [Post edited 18 Dec 2022 12:01]

Exactly. I'd also like to say that joey plays the game with both feet, he looked on another level compared with every player on the pitch, perhaps he can coach grimes to use his right foot 🤔

You watch joey and his head is constantly swivelling, even when the ball is nowhere near him he’s looking to see where everyone is. It’s amazing how many players at this level play with tunnel vision.

He always refers to the first two thirds, but that comment was difficult to agree with. Coventry could have scored four in the first half if it wasn’t for Benda.

Great photo, it was hilarious to see a 50+ year old man running towards the swans fans after we scored our third, they were giving it to us when they were 3 nil up but after we scored our first the piped down, they could give it but just couldnt take it, it was really good to see 🤣🤣
