Swansea City risk losing Ogbene due to continual issues with the ownership of the club 16th Jan 2023 11:59
Millwall have joined the chase for Chiedozie Ogbene as have other clubs in the championship now they see an opportunity to get a player in January who most certainly will add value to their squads. Plus we hear the clubs ownership are again playing games to get cheaper deals for players Russell Martin wants to come in. 2

This is a very worrying situation which will have long term consequences on our club.

Why though do the owners now seem reluctant to spend when previously we have seen with Obafemi, Piroe,Natcham,Patterson , Whittaker, Joseph , Ogebeta that purchases were made yes they were not all high spends but still we shelled out....

We agree wholeheartedly. It’s extremely concerning.

OK I've changed it.

"Start as you mean to carry on."
It all started back with their ridiculous handling of the Gylfi transfer; with their cocky 'we know better than you' attitude that cost us dearly by hampering the chances of making the best use of our windfall, whilst they postured at being tough negotiators. Tough like an overcooked steak!

All speculation.
I suspect Winter has a budget and will stick to it.
Every time we don’t sign a player we have been linked with the reaction is to claim the owners won’t sign that cheque.
Post Laudrup (and before Martinez we were either taken as a soft touch or paid ridiculous amounts for average players.
And, almost every manager for years has said it is difficult to get players to come to Swansea as they are sold the idea the city is the back of beyond.

the point is , this is not the first time this has happened, this time last season
the owners give a budget to the chairman and head of recruitment so they know their budget looking like the M K Dons lad that was all but here everything agreed and the owners pull the plug , looking like simular things going on again , why employ people to do a job then over ride what they have done, time after time?
why are the Americans here , we are told no monies are being taken illigally so what is in it for them ?thay aint here for nothing and as we all can see they have NO intrest in Swansea f c , but would love to be proven wrong

£57 m for Sigurdson and Ashley Williams has to go down as excellent work. So good in fact Everton have never recovered from it.

They were let down by the people they trusted in the club. David Ledbetter was head of recruitment and signed a string of poor overpriced players. The club were better at finding unpolished diamonds lie James, McBurnie, Fulton Grimes..

Martin has to work with what he has got and it is not a concern for me. His best performing player at the present are Ollie Cooper and Cullen. Benda and Cabango came through the system and the is already a new striker chomping at the bit in Whitaker.

Whiittaker had a better record than Ogbene in league 1. this is my attitude and no doubt I am in sync with Uncle Sam. Martin has promised progress by slow iterative development and is being f given time. He also has to balance the books.

I’m not a fan of this ownership at all but I can understand them not forking out the reported fee for a player that will be free in under six months.

The decision to spend last season on Fisher & Ogbeta and not use the funds to go after O’Riley still baffles me. This is however a trade mark of the current ownership in that they continually pontificate whenever it comes to sanctioning spending. Not sure why Winter or our recruitment employees want work under such a regime where it appears they are regularly overruled or get push back on the work that they are doing.

We are slowly using up any credence we had for developing loan players. The likes of Man C, Liverpool, West Ham, Brentford will all be wondering why they bothered with the way we have treated recent loanees.

Getting players to come here due to location is probably a bigger problem than many would admit to. To say we are closing in on the play offs is a bit of an over statement with our consistency issues.

I can assure you this is not speculation, including this site some outlets have gone out on a limb today and point the finger straight at the ownership.

Can understand them not wanting to shell out a million for a player who is out of contract in 4 months.

That equates to 250 k a month.

Or is it being suggested they just want players out and don't want to spend much at all.

I have had a season ticket for a long time but I won't be renewing till the 31st Jan for next season there will be lots of others thinking the same I am sure.

No point if the club is going backwards with owners who have lost interest.

There is significant evidence now as per the article that stalling and attempts at renegotiation after a deal has been agreed is affecting the clubs ability to sign players. That’s the crux of the matter, and it isn’t just us saying it.

All good and well getting whatever it was for gylfi but they left it to the last minute just to eke out every penny from then, that piece of 'excellent work' meant that there wasn't any player of any note left therefore this piece of 'excellent work' culminated in our relegation but they weren't bothered about us staying up, all they cared about was the £ signs 👏

Fair point but it’s more a case if how the profit was used.

We may argue a bout managers but we all know the biggest issue is our ownership

Its uncanny the amount of times that we seem to chase players and they end up going else where, makes you that we are being lead down the garden path, time and time again.

I'm not sure about Ogbene myself, [I'd rather we kept Morgan] so it maybe that he's a banana skin that we avoided, who knows.
