Well then, in order to relieve congestion on th M4 they are going to build 5 new train stations, most likely in South East Wales. Putting aside the obvious shafting of the rest of South Wales again, why do they think this will work?

1, trains are already packed and expensive, more stations won't help that.

2, it won't take the business traffic off the M4, reps will still use their cars, lorries will still need the roads and to the other road users it'll be a matter of finance and convenience. is the train cheaper and easier, if not they won't use it. More stations won't change those things.

Are the Senedd about to splash out millions on something that I personally believe to be a silly idea?

They haven’t cancelled all road building projects, but quite a few have bitten the dust and they’ve set the bar for future projects at a very high level.

My personal view is that it’s bonkers, I totally get the need to be more energy efficient, environmentally conscious etc etc, but we also have to have jobs and a decent infrastructure. The shift towards electric cars will address some of the emissions issues etc and by the time we’re all electric we’ll be so far behind the curve we’ll be a backwater. This is mental.

Personally I think tourism will be hit hard between the travelling time to West Wales and tourist tax. If it doesn't improve soon numbers will drop considerably.

Wonder if they will stop any new flights to Cardiff Airport. Extra landings and takeoffs will cause more pollution plus of course around 100 extra car journeys per flight to get passengers to the airport.

Another Senedd announcement today "not all Current bus services will continue to be funded in Wales."
Surely that means more cars and more pollution?

The ultimate goal is for people to not own their own private transportation. They want everyone on trains and buses, no matter how inconvenient in comparison. That should be obvious by now.

WG (at least Drakeford) is a big believer in the theory of Induced Demand. Basically more roads leads to more traffic, I can believe that in large cities but not in a rural country like Wales and in a cost of living crisis.

WG legislation also pretty much makes major road building illegal, and has done for a while. At least in a lot of cases, including the M4 releif Road.

The latest in a long line of stupid Senedd ideas.

This will have Wales further lagging behind the rest of the UK with poor infrastructure and could hinder new investment into the country. I haven't had much time to read up on it but some of the councils in North Wales are really miffed with this ludicrous descion.

Can only lead to more job losses. Wales already has the lowest % of economically active people in the Uk 71.5% compared to UK average of 75.6%.

They won't care. They'll still have expenses, ministerial transport and will get re-elected again, and again, and again.

They've approved 15 out of 59 and some of those decisions have been called stupid, going ahead with things the people don't want that will destroy green land which was the reason they stopped the M4 relief.

The shift to electric won't be the boost a lot of people think. Electric vehicles don't have the range and are not suitable for a whole range of businesses. I know someone given an electric van in work, when fully loaded the declared range reduces from 250 to 191 and even that is false, he did 11 miles last Friday and the range dropped by 25. The plan was to charge his van once a week byt it looks like it'll need to be taken in and charged 3 times. With the cost of electricity that is still produced by fossil fuels, is that greener?

Where I agree, we will be a backwater because we already are. The Welsh economy is suffering and all the Senedd can do is blame Westminster. It's their eternal get out clause even though they are even more to blame because their policies, their grand plans are throttking Welsh business.

The shift to electric is problematic, as you say ranges reduce with a load and lower temperatures etc.
The elephant in the room is affordability, how many can afford £30 -£50K for a new electric car.
There is no action to improve the Welsh economy.

Words fail they really do , I bet the folk from Llangefni will be cheering todays news . the suspension bridge over the Menai Straits was built 204 years ago and the Britannia in the 19th century which with the recent closure of the menai and an average of seven times a year closure has caused signifiacnt transport issues for Angelsey But all the welsh govrenment can say they're looking into green option rather than upgrade a desperately needed transport link , sounds familiar ?

The needs of the Gogs are of zero interest to the Cardiff Assembly.

It'll get even worse when they stuff more of their placemen in there.

Fraid to say they have repeatedly shown they have no interest in anyone outside the cardiff centric . I had to go to site today , near Gilfach Goch ( north of Bridgend just into the valleys )and the traffic flowing down towards the M4 intrechange went on for miles . all heading towards cardiff , all going to feed the all consuming beast

I think the referendum on Devolution was the first vote I ever actually cast. I voted no, because even then it was obvious what would happen.

Unfortunately some deeply stupid people in Swansea, and it was mostly Swansea, voted yes because for some unfathomable reason they actually thought it would be based here.

25 years of failure and feeding of the Cardiff parasite later the downward spiral for everywhere else in Wales seems almost unstoppable.

At the moment electric cars are barely more enviromentally efficient than small engine petrol cars.
From the materials to build the batteries (and also the modern day slavery) through to the electricity being generated with fossil fuels.

The example I used above, the outcome will be more miles done and more electricty consumed as the va will have to be returned to base at least 3 times per week. It also means less productivity as the staff member will have to leave site early to travel back to base whereas generally they leave site at finishing time and take the van home. They'll be using a diesel car then to travel to and from their base.

The whole shift to electric is looking (to me at least) like another very expensive cock up akin to the diesel scandal. We are being lied to purely to create yet more profit for the few and it wouldn't surprise me if this rise in the price of electric isa deliberate act by governments to ensure electric cars generate that profit. It won't be long after that they "discover" how to make hydrogen cars feasible and the circus starts again, if it does just watch water prices rise.

Your second paragraph is closer to it, although I'd never put down to conspiracy what can be explained by simple incompetence.

Battery technology won't be as convenient as carbon based fuel for decades. Until you can recharge a battery as quickly and conveniently as a fuel tank then it will never be the same. The motor industry has gone down a completely wrong pathway with it.

In many large cities you have people who can easily afford electric cars living in expensive apartments with no parking close by. Unless they can overnight charge, they will never buy.

My first paragraph is accurate to my mates use though. he has had to make extra journeys to base to put the van on charge, it's taken him off site and away from working. Whatever trip he makes, the distance covered in miles is taken off the range plus roughly 50%, A 3.5 mile trip used 5 miles.
One of the big problesm is, everything in the van, the heating/aircone, windows, radio, lights, they all run off the battery and in the cold, dark months the battery van will be next to useless. He's only used it a few days and already wishes he could have his diesel van back.

To be honest with you I can't think of an alenative to what your suggesting . if its not by road how else will you cross from and into Angelsey , unless by train which by my recollection isn't in any plans of the idiots to electrify or do they intend asking National Grid if they can use the 400kV pylons either side river as a form of cable car route

Welsh road network is not fit for purpose.

More roads are still needed to reach the standard required by a modern integrated economy.
Decades of under funding.

Once it reaches what we need, then the WG would have a more valid point.
