| Everything Russell Martin said after losing to Birmingham City on 15:02 - Feb 5 by Dr_Winston | If Martin hadn't disregarded both OkoFlex and Stevens that's at least two additional players who would probably have been available to us yesterday. People can't claim that our squad is thin and ignore one of the major reasons why it's two players lighter than it was in December. Besides, on the bench yesterday we had a £1.5m central defender in Harry Darling, Kyle Naughton, Whittaker, and Cundle, not to mention Cameron Congreve, who many think has what it takes to go all the way. It was not a weak bench. |
Agree with Oko Flex and also add Ogbeta to that. However not sure Stevens would have made an impact with us. Still feel the squad is paper thin though IMHO

| Everything Russell Martin said after losing to Birmingham City on 13:17 - Feb 5 by Sirjohnalot | Just watched the press conference. I hope he’s got someone to talk to privately, but worried about his mental health. Whatever his perceived failings, righty or wrongly, he’s a decent man with a young family who’s struggling at the moment. Appears as if the owners are not happy with what he said but he has called them out from what he perceives to be issues behind the scenes. |
Its a pity we didn't bring in an older head from outside to assist in some way, as it is now theres one big s@@t show about to start unless theres a damn miracle.

| Everything Russell Martin said after losing to Birmingham City on 14:51 - Feb 5 by STID2017 | Plenty of times you have posted that we have a decent squad and that a competent manager would have us in the top six. So that would mean if a new manager came in tomorrow he would have the same squad and succeed ? The reality is the squad is paper thin and needed strengthening. The fact that it didn't happen wasn't down to Martin or anyone this side of the pond |
How are you quoting me when you are supposed to have me on ignore as per site rules? And yes the new manager who replaces Martin (assuming he’s competent) will absolutely get these players into the top 6, but again it depends at what stage of the season he takes over. It may be too late by the time that happens. If the change was made today, I’d say we would end up in the playoffs.

Same reason as you choose to ignore site rules. Please leave admin to the admins and just continue sensibly debating football shall we ? I would love to say you were right at the end of the regular season ( whether under Martin or a new manager) Personally cannot see it. All about opinions though

Which site rules do I ignore? Unfortunately STID debating sensibly isn’t your forte, you start off nice and then slowly turn onto someone desperate to argue again. No doubt then blame me despite it being you who took me off ignore.

If you do not wish to discuss football matters then please stop quoting me in you comments. Or we can carry on debating football as we have without any issue for the past few hours ? You brought up site rules not me

I don’t mind discussing football matters, I always do, I’m just making the point that you have a history of poor behaviour after taking me off ignore. This time you have done it against site rules, I asked you which ones I have broken and you couldn’t answer. I consciously avoided reporting posts to avoid having to put someone on ignore, I complied with the rule. I’m afraid your previous behaviour goes before you. You will have to win my trust before I believe you aren’t going to lapse back into the poster continually trying to argue with me.

| Everything Russell Martin said after losing to Birmingham City on 14:30 - Feb 5 by magicdaps10 | I don't think any competent manager would, I think a manager who got us top 6 would be doing an absolutely fantastic job. The squad is thin and we have some players who are over hyped as better than they are. I think the Grimes situation is a perfect example, we have a very decent player on our hand but a player last year who had just 6 months remaining on his contract........you would have sworn he would have had half a dozen clubs lining him up if you believed what you read from some on here. Spending money doesn't guarantee things, we spend money on players with potential.......potential to get better and make us a profit. |
Any competent manager would have managed the game out differently yesterday and got the win had Russ used his head and n properly we could well have won that and he would not need to have been dejected. Russ stated he needed to change formation his way was to sub Natcham bringing on Cundle switching to a back 5 moving Lati into left centreback and putting Oli Cooper out of position at RWB Surely the better move would have been take off Cullen and Natcham replace with Naughton and Whitaker. Put Nuaghton as sweeper or in the centre of the back 5 with a 5 -3 -2 formation allowing LAti and Manning to push forwards when needed whilst keeping some cover at the back. Brining on NAughton intorduces some experience to help out the young defence which was starting to come under presssure Whittaker would bolsiter the attack with some pace and help stretch Brum also 2 subs used on sub event leaving still 3 more subs and 2 substitue windows BUT was does Russ do? Ive never really played the game and Im not a manager but surely that would have been better than Russ's mess? Yes our owners are not great but where would we be without them? I dont see potential buyers queuing up to take the club off their hands but meanwhile yesterday we witnessed a total mismanagement of the game by Martin and not for the first time in his 18 moth tenure here and still there sre some rushing to his defence by blaming the owners for not backing him the same owners who backed him in bringing in Darling and Fisher who have in recent months bee sat on the bench.

Can't disagree in regards to yesterday, he wasn't helped with the injury but made the error with the substitutions but it was extremely unlucky at the same time. Martin has his issues but some and that includes yourself go overboard with your thoughts on him.....if he was that bad then we would be much further down the league as much as he could be higher up if he gets certain things right.........its a fine line in both ways. I don't think our squad is as good as some think but its certainly not the worse in the league. The argument that we have spent well, this can be countered by the words from the owners who have said that they are willing to pay over the odds........maybe that has been the case with Wood, Darling, Fisher and so on. I am not here to want to prove people wrong or even to be proven right......i try to things as clear as I can and realistically, taking a step back and seeing where we are in the league, I would say where we are is about correct. We most certainly have room for improvement and there have been signs, we are scoring goals but ultimately thd issue is with conceding.

The problem was we had nothing to counter the pace of their player breaking on the right. IMO moving Latibeaudiere over was to help Manning deal with this, it didn't work and went downhill. Bad tactics, bad substitutions and poor game management cost us.

“if he was that bad then we would be much further down the league“. You were slagging Cooper off when we were 4th?! Why would he be further down the league? Where we are is a reflection of how bad he is. Bottom half yet again and a solitary point between us and 16th.

Overboard applies also to the ludicrous unfettered support for HIM who is simply not worthy . Some thoroughly decent people have been taken in by this chap and I’m not having it. It is like a festering boil that needs to be lanced . We need to be freed This is down to the Owners
