The errors are a product of the old system, it was a guarantee not a mishap.
The errors have reduced coinciding with less suicide passing around the back in a foolish attempt to tire them out, plus a less centrally focussed possession base making it harder for opponents to commit to the press.
Width and directness is the only way a possession based system to work. The fact it’s taken him 4 years to figure that out is scary.
Fishers errors were nothing to do with Russ of course, or his tactics at least, he was the one who insisted he was bought for a lump of cash a whack of salary each week. | |

Being fair, Martin had a chance to play a back 4 for a while and to stick with it......i prefer a back 4 personally but I can see the benefits of a back 3.
Players are certainly getting better, Wood being a prime example and the mistakes have certainly been cut back due to the confidence and thus helps Fisher.
That Stike game at home was a bad one but it's clear now that the club was in a state due to certain circumstances that Martin let affect him from above.........he shouldn't have but there again the situation shouldn't have been allowed to happen to put him in that place in the first instance.

Nothing to do with confidence or “getting better”, simply down to system.
These errors happened at MK Dons too, he used to moan about them weekly without making the connection. Others made the connection though and he was very spiky when asked by the MK media. His response was that there is nothing wrong with the system because they dominate the ball, that was the depths of his thinking.
He’s had to face up to it here though. We are supporters (well some of us), that are well versed in ACTUAL possession football, we have been watching it longer than Russ has been trying to implement it and we know it inside out and backwards. Any deviations that make the system fragile sticks out like a sore thumb (again to some of us).
He’s had to address it and concede that his 3 at the back, central possession system that simply has the aim to make the opposition tired… was useless. There is no “the players understand now” or “the players are better now” narrative.
The narrative is the reality, Martin has changed and moved away from his tactics that were senseless and strangling the life out of us.
That is how you say, a fact (an actual one, not a made up one to be backtracked on later down the road). | |

I'm not hugely fond of the way ownership has gone around certain things, but realistically speaking the club are in a better shape financially than many in our division so perhaps they're not all bad? Just stating that apparently makes me an apologist. | |

I will admit that I don't much like the guy and probably never will. There's far too much of the Garry Monk's about him and it simply shouldn't have taken him this long to understand where he was going wrong, but if he does well then so do Swansea City and that's something we all should aspire to. | |
