Advice to the new manager 19:28 - Jun 13 with 2706 viewsQJumpingJack

What one piece of advice would you give to the new manager coming in - and how should he work with the board and the various owners?

I expect the new manager will chat to the likes of Potter, Cooper and maybe even Martin - what do you think they will say on how to succeed at the club remembering the difficult transfer windows we have experienced in recent years.

Understand that lots of Swans fans know the difference between passing in order to effectively recycle the ball and passing just to keep the stats up.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Build on the achievement of the previous manager and do not buy players for big money who are not as good as those in the academy or available on frees.

When a good player becomes available like O'Reilly get in fast. Do not wind up the owners and complain about them. They want value for money and players thy can sell on for a profit. You will get 65% (approx) of what you ask for.

Wise sage since Toshack era

with O'Riley - Martin did move fast but the board didn't from what was reported online at the time in early 2022.

O'Riley would have been a brilliant signing for us and we could have profited well a la Downes.

Use width and natural wide players. Fullbacks constantly being our furthest forward player on both wings was pretty hard to watch.

Don't let Grimes take the corners remembering also at corners don't leave him as our last man as he is not fast nor physical enough.
It has taken a number of managers too much time to realise leading to us not having a viable threat at corners and open to counter attacks.
Sorry if a bit negative but he needs other members of the team to help him in those areas.

4-4-2 with fast wingers or at least wide men who can take on a defender with their skill or movement.

I doubt Grimes will take any corners for us next season. The only corner he may take at The Liberty will be in a red and white shirt.

Would love to think that would negate their threat at corners but factor in the ex players goal scoring likelihood he'd most probably score directly from the corner.
Would him leaving be a bad thing?

There is no guarantee that players will want to follow RM.

First it was Piroe, IMO it was never going to happen when he leaves us it will be to a higher league somewhere not another championship club.

Manning and Latty probably, out of contract and will chase the money.

Grimes, captain here and on a decent contract (about £18K a week?) and family settled in the area, I think it would need to be a lot more money to even tempt him. But I think it will come down to who our next manager is and to whether he thinks I will give it a go here and see how RM does at Southampton who may be out by Christmas.

Fulton the numbers are smaller but similar thoughts regarding him leaving, would he be offered the captinancy if Grimes left?

Agree re Piroe bigger and better things for him.
Re player leaving better the devil you know.
As for Grimes not sure the length of his contract thought it was extended nt so long ago unless he think he can get a more attractive deal like Paterson got, and Manning and Latibeaudie are fishing for .
Hopefully plans are being made in the background of the RM nonesense maybe if it doesn't get sorted we will have him another year at the very least, giving more opportunities for some "entertaining" discussions.

Grimes has 2 years left on his contract, possibly with an option.

it won't matter if grimes thinks Martiin will be gone by Christmas, if he's offered a 4 years deal there on more money he'll go.

They will be one of the promo favourites and he will be Captain under Martin.

Money talks more than ever these days, players don't even hide it, that's why Wrexham signed that Mullin, because they offered more money than the league One clubs could offer so he dropped down 2 divisions.

I’ve read HE was going to be gone Tuesday a forthright ago then a Wednesday then June 15 th
Clearly,we know nowt and it is all BS .
We are in a shocking state
A coach that doesn’t want to be with us and owners that are so dumb as to miss the chance to get rid of HIM without paying him off for his services to himself.
They should take anything at all from Soton as this fella s stick will sink eventually
We shave a chance to free ourselves
Just do it

May I politely suggest you read what Keith writes and not rely on other news sources outside this forum ?
Many established sources such as Walesonline have as much relevance as last week's chip paper
It will happen in good time.
Then the doomslayers on here can get on with their usual position of slamming the manager's tactics, etc
