Morgan Whittaker just wasn’t going to fit in at Duff’s Swansea City 17th Jul 2023 12:48
Unhappy Morgan Whittaker will have a smile on his face this morning as he joins Plymouth Argyle on a permanent transfer. 1

So we don't actually know what Rooney thought then.

Well they got rid when he became their manager so I'd expect like duff he had a look at him then sanctioned his move to us.

Yeah, that could be right, but I don’t think either has been given much of a shot at it, same for the boy Ogbeta(?) who seems to be the forgotten man, I don’t even know if we’ve moved him on?

Right place at the right time, He was not able to force his way into the starting eleven fair play to Ntcham he has stuck with it under even under Martin's reign and was guaranteed game time as either a starter or coming off the bench.
Up to players to force their way into teams when the chance arises, players usually miss games within a season for one reason or other......except Grimes of course or has got ban for a number of Yellows and Reds?

Well the derby fans I spoke to at the away game 3 years said different, they basically said he was lazy and had an attitude 🤔

See this is where I start getting pelters and people start ganging up on Itch but I simply cannot see your argument. Not one person can say with cast iron certainty that he was lazy with a bad attitude in a Swans shirt because not one of us saw enough of him to form that kind of opinion.

Yours is a hypothesis based on what Derby fans told you after he left them.

By that measure you can tell Plymouth fans that he’s lazy with a bad attitude and and they will repeat it. How do they know? Because Swansea fans told them. In reality Swansea fans have no way of knowing this.

He simply was not fancied and he was discarded, unfairly I my opinion. We may one day see how good is or isn’t, but for that to happen he will need to play.

It is apocryphal narrative from fireboy
I've been to see us at Derby and wouldn't dream of talking to them at all
Either people believe Whittaker was a lazy slug whom we are well rid of or trash like me believing he was treated like dirt
Let's face it, none of us can back up what we post , at least not all the time
Whittaker was certainly rated by Plymouth who got promoted
Our outgoing coach never ever started him and we weren't
People either believed Martin or they didn't

Poll: Christmas. Enjoyable or not

I'm not defending or criticising anyone, but it is perfectly normal for me to have a long chat in the pub with home supporters before an away match. Often we are on the same or next table while having lunch and a couple of beers, there is never any animosity, just general chat about both teams, players past and present.

You could tell that from a couple of games. He was just drifting through, not chasing anything down and avoiding contact. It’s much easier to see that than make a judgement on how good a player is.

He actually played for us 15 times, though granted most of them were late substitute appearances.

What I couldn’t tell you is if that’s just how he played under Martin, or whether that’s the type of player he naturally is.

Whether he was treated unfairly is open to interpretation. In my opinion, fans only see what they do on a Saturday afternoon. The people who make decisions see an awful lot more than us.

He started the first two or three games after the transfer window shut. Martin preferred Cullen after that.

Well I got told it then I saw it with my own eyes, him having a tantrum at Hull and lati having to calm him down, how many times do I have to post this information?

Plus a Plymouth fan backed up my argument by telling builthy that he was only bothered when he got the ball in the box, he wasn't interested anywhere else on the pitch.

What else do I have to say to cement my argument?

In fairness,that works both ways
I though we were all about supporting the lads
Whittaker clearly not.
Maybe he needed a cwtch

One thing for sure, Duff will have us watch him carefully when they play us

Schumacher rates him. A manager who won a promotion so not to be dismissed

I don't think you are argumentative itch, I have stated my opinion based on my own eyes and other people who have relevant experience of whittaker, both managers and supporters.

On this subject I just don't understand why people still think that whittaker has been treated badly when there is so much overwhelming evidence to say that he hasn't.

Loaned him out to get him experience when he wasn’t good enough to be in the starting eleven, other than that he would have been on the bench. Cooper, Martin and now Duff didn’t fancy him.

From the last loan he found his place in a league below and did well, gets a million quid transfer, should be far more than that as the season goes on etc. Gets a bigger wedge and is now going to be a permanent fixture in the championship.

Can’t see where the bad treatment even started let alone ended.

He’s happy, if not bloody delighted, he got his own way and the Swans got him where he wants to be.

Like managers, players are the same. Some split opinion more than others, when they go that’s it, we move on, this guy just wasn’t cut out for it at a club like Swansea.

Last time I went to Derby was the time Savage got our chap sent off .
Derby fans like Leicester fans don’t do much for me .
Leicester particularly.
I spend time with Hudds people S I go to the JS fixture with a local lad I’ve known 25 years.
I ll be going to Preston and will park up,see game and fark off back hopefully smiling .

I ll be very gl@d when somebody pull# this thread as it simply perpetuates discord

Injury proned liable to pull a hamstring while utilising his best asset his speed has been know to be a career killer, not a great first touch, stroppy youngster, who knows what managers see in front of them.
Club sells him on for a profit. Move on to the next superstar.
No matter how good our ex players are a lot them come back and bite us, it's as if they need to prove themselves to us.

Thank you.

I’m not adamantly stating that he was treated ‘badly’, but I can say with 100% confidence that I don’t think he had enough minutes on the pitch for me to form the opinion that he’s a wrong ‘un.

The amount of appearances he made is irrelevant compared to the minutes he spent playing, and in my view that was not enough.

Your entire argument about him being lazy and/or disruptive seems based on him having a tizzy at Hull once.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Not enough minutes on the pitch, and those few minutes he got were almost exclusively out of position.

The one manager he's had in his career who used him extensively in his best position got fantastic performances out of him and couldn't sign him back quick enough, breaking his clubs transfer record to do so.

Agreed, not rocket science.

I don’t necessarily hold it against Cooper if at the time he was considered one for the future, or Duff as he probably had other priorities and moving on Whittaker may have facilitated other moves, but the mismanagement under Martin was something else and is amplified because it is not an isolated incident. Kyle Joseph came to us after a good championship run in a poor Wigan side and didn’t get a look in. Bidwell, shown the door and almost ended up in the PL, whereas Martin considered Lati at Sarinola adequate. See also Ogbeta, Garrick (not sure if the timing of this his one?), Ogbeta, Congrieve, B. Cooper, Dan Lloyd, Patterson, and even Piroe ……

Are they all wrong ‘uns, or were they all mismanaged in different ways during the Russel Martin regime?
