Rishi Sunak is considering removing the winter fuel allowance ... 17:39 - Sep 29 with 7465 viewstheloneranger

"Rishi Sunak is considering removing the winter fuel allowance from all but the poorest pensioners as a way of clawing back some taxpayer funds from the elderly, as he prepares to fight the next election on a pledge to keep the pension triple lock despite its spiralling costs."

Tax the rich until the pips squeak ….

We can then invest more in schools, hospitals, care services, security, transport and other things that help ordinary peole.

It can address child poverty in Wales.

Dont be a patsy for the rich.

Get off your backside and contribute then more could be invested.

Labour tried it in the 70's. It it was a huge error. People just left the country and became tax exiles. The way to go is low tax , encourage people to work succeed and create wealth which invariably will go back into the system via...you guessed it tax!

We should have a tax regime which is fair to all. If the current system with its numerous loop holes and evasion/ avoidance practices enable the rich to avoid their obligations, then it’s wrong. A few years ago there were cases where people were being paid in the form of loans which they were never expected to pay back. The money was sent abroad and they were then able to transfer it back yo the uk. In my opinion that’s plain wrong. However taxing people until their pips squeak is mental - work and production of wealth has to be incentivised. Allowing companies to channel their hard earned here in to tax havens is also wrong.

In terms of poverty, I agree with you about reducing poverty but we need to actually consider what poverty is. The measure of poverty is 60% below the median income after housing costs are identified. We’re always going to have a median income, so by definition you’re always going to have some people who fall in to the position. The question is how do we really get the help to the people who need it. How do we close the gap and give people the skills to get out of the poverty trap while encouraging contributions and not just building a reliance on benefits as a way of life.

Denis Healey soaked the rich and it backfired big time.
And he pound in the pocket wouldn’t be affected too.
amongst the most vicious liars in government was that LBour administration.
Our Labour stalwarts on here need to read up history o4 ask an old person even if they’re in a care home being screwed out of their life savings .

Unfortunately there are Golden Visa programmes around the World these days. In the EU you can get a Golden Visa from about £250K by buying a house in Portugal. This gives you permanent residency after just 5 years.
Rich people are able to be mobile, in the past when we have taxed then heavily they have moved out of the UK. The best way to raise tax income is to grow everyone's income. But, we have illogical benefit systems that top up low pay that encourages employers to pay less rather than systems that encourage higher remuneration.

We already do that and the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer. I guess we just need to keep cutting tax for the rich and that wealth will trickle down eventually…

Yeah but don’t worry about that. There’s a big petition saying the Tories are really popular in Wales. Just ask Felix.

Yet, there are more Tories than Plaid in the assembly, somebody in Wales is voting for them.

And Drakeford had to blow smoke up Adam Price's rear end to get a coalition agreement
