| Welsh name for our football teams. Why not? 16:39 - Nov 17 with 10845 views | ReslovenSwan1 | Wrexham are being pressed to change their name to 'Wrecsam'. It sounds the same and should not trouble our English speaking friends too much. https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport "Ham" is an Saxon word for brook I recall so it would be a Welsh mangling an original English name. Llanelli is now only Welsh which is good and the old mangled Lanelly has gone. There is Pen y bont now in the Cymru Adran. Bari and Caerfili seem straight forward. People would object to a change in the whole word not pronunciation for example 'Swansea City' to 'Dinas Abertawe'. It is easy for our non Welsh speaking friends to say but falls foul of tradition. Names and shirt colours are staunchly defended by traditionalists. As a relaxed liberal myself I can see this is valid. I do however propose to the good forum that the women's team be changed to 'Dinas Abertawe'. "They aint got no tradition" so it will not be a big leap into the unknown. I sometime get irritated when I see "Swansea sign up new goalscorer" . I open the page in excitement and anticipation to discover " Stacey Morgan has signed from Pontypridd United". Another thread for the faithful during the international break. Kindly. [Post edited 17 Nov 2023 20:11]

| Welsh name for our football teams. Why not? on 23:05 - Nov 19 by lifelong | While watching the cricket today the attendance at the game was incredible, I wondered how many languages were spoken in a huge country like India so I thought I’d google it. 122 main languages and 1600 other languages, you should move out there you’d have a field day.😄 |
What is that do with thread?

Do the clowns who want to change our name also want us to play in the league of Wales as that is where we will end up. I can only think those for the name change have only been around since the premier league days

Nah, 470 mile round trip on a dark damp November on my own isn’t my idea of fun. Neither is hearing the inane drivel spouted between rival fans . Hull seems to have a bad press on here so hope our fans give these denizens of another working class city a proper warm welcome . Meanwhile, you can think of an answer to my question

If they did, could we then refer to ourselves as Swans fans when it’s an English term Why not go all the way and ban English altogether so people would have to learn Welsh, just like you would trying to get a job in many places in Wales . It is now past bizarre . I’m worried about some people on here really.

Don’t we all. Changing the name to Abertawe would see City of Swanseaprofile worldwide vanish. Clear lack of vision here and choking parochialism. I’m reading this as some wanting us to quit the English system and play as Abertawe in the LOW. God help us all

This would be the reverse for the WOMENS team which was the theme of the OP. The Women's team is a bolted on mini version of the men's team. It needs its own identity and as Dinas Abertawe it would have it. 3859 is more than John Hollins's team would get back in the dark days at the 'orrible Vetch . The development women's team will increase usage of the Swansea.com and the clubs retail and refreshments department. Newsnow Swansea city is 50% womens football today. I have zero interest in the blurring of the teams. I want separation and separate identities.

| Welsh name for our football teams. Why not? on 10:51 - Nov 19 by onehunglow | It’s always been thus The welsh league and now the LOW is just fine for small towns ,rural villages and the like. Two Wales for sure. Urban English speaking welsh and small town rural welsh . That’s fine We shouldn’t set up against each other . I’ve said this before and will repeat,in my lifetime,,the most divisive subject in Welsh life without doubt . My paternal family all welsh mother tongue,my maternal family all English working class speaking . Swansea dockers had more in common with Liverpool or Hull dockers than they had with hill farmers in Gwynedd . Fact . |
Its the Cymru Premiership. LoW not used since 2002. Well at least you have moved on slightly from the 1970’s. On reflection, 20 years adrift does not seem so bad.

Well we would also change the City of Swansea to Dinas Abertawe. Do you have a view on cheaper season tickets for welsh speakers to accompany this change ?

You Unionist flag wavers and the other pro Anglos are all over this subject and the Welsh national team's troubles as you would expect. It is the reason of your existence on the forum. You fail to understand that like me you can love the UK and love Wales. I represent a group of people committed to ethnic diversity and culture and peace and freedom. UK is the gold standard of ethnic tolerance. If I was younger I would not reject a call up to the UK military if the cause was valid. I lived in Turkiye and your views resonate with the Turkish far right. They ram Turkishness down the throats of the Kurds and other leading to 50 years of violence and death. They use the same dismissive language to Kurdish culture. "we do not need it and it is best abolished" they would say. One flag one anthem one national language one nation. (50,000 dead soldiers) . The English are a lot smarter than them and find solutions as with the Good Friday agreement, for example. They do not hammer down even more and lock up more people. Ditch the flag mate. I object to illiberal people using one of my flags to slag of Wales.

Lot of hot air here on these subjects Many men opine about women’s football when they really don’t give a monkeys ,as you say,but it looks good . I do think it is good to encourage young girls to get away from their devices to play sport though. As regards the other matter, think I’ve said enough for today as some will be increasing their blood pressure
