| Is Vic (still) there? 14:35 - Dec 28 with 6607 views | ReslovenSwan1 | This story really boils my bladder fluids. Mr Levien must be pulling his hair out. He authorized the loan to buy this guy for £1m. Cooper "did not fancy him" sent him back then moaned. He preferred Lowe and Cullen. "No number 9 see butt" "No support see butt". £87m ought to do it. Useless Yankees giving us cheap players and not backing their coaches. "we deserve better". Whitaker anyone ? Duff "Fletcher was OK" What is it to them? No long term plans. They will all be off at the end of the season. It is the "Business culture" of the club. SHORT TERM ISM. Send the loans back. https://www.teamtalk.com/news/ [Post edited 28 Dec 2023 14:37]

| Is Vic (still) there? on 14:29 - Dec 29 by jack247 | They did. Whittaker didn’t want to come back Martin didn’t want him to come back He refused to play He asked to leave after Martin had left the club He clearly didn’t see eye to eye with Martin, but no one should pretend he was happy with the way the owners treated him. |
Its true he asked to leave after Martin had left the club and asked for a transfer on Duff's first day so nothing to do with Duff. The current Swansea head coach paid tribute to the way the striker approached the issue, even though it meant losing him. "I had a meeting with the players on my very first morning at the football club, introduced myself and the staff, the usual, standard, welcome-day meeting," said Duff. "Morgan then followed me up to the office, knocked on my door and said, 'I want to leave'. "He didn't kick off, he said, 'it's nothing to do with you'. I don't know what had gone on previously and it's none of my business, but he made it quite clear he didn't want to be here and there are certain things I do now know, but I'm not prepared to get into that. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/fo

| Is Vic (still) there? on 15:00 - Dec 29 by jack247 | Are you speculating here or do you know for certain Levein would have let him stay? I can’t say 100%, but I’ve been told by a decent source he was keen to stay and Duff was keen to give him a run. |
If Duff wanted him to stay he would have said so but he did not. Fletcher was 'on trial'. No one at the club have praised him or stated he is good player that they would like to sign. There is a depressing pattern forming. (short term ism) Duff even stated Fletcher was someway down a list of promising players from the academy. Not a great boost to the lad. Duff was looking after Duff and not thinking 18 months hence.

| Is Vic (still) there? on 14:46 - Dec 29 by ReslovenSwan1 | He had no choice to say this. Fletcher wants to play in Europe not the MLS. He was on trial and despite some fabulous performance was not offered a deal by Swansea. He was reportedly very keen on staying. Swansea city management have form on this. Goykeres and Whittaker were provided by the recruitment people but not developed by managers with a very short term outlook. Duff was sniffy so Levien says bring him back. Dufff stated "he was OK but not first in line of the academy players". |
As you should know we couldn't offer Flecther a deal because he wasn't available AND seeing as the people offering him the deal are the same people openly stating he would be returning to DC it makes a nonsense of what you say. Fletcher is a loanee, he doesn't belong to our academy. Swansea management have form for this you say, that would be the same management you so love to defend so at last you criticise our owners, well done you for showing the awareness.

I’ll ask again. Do you know Levein was happy for him to stay here long term or are you speculating? I’ve heard differently from someone far more in the know than I am. Duff was hardly in a position of power at that point was he? (I’m speculating here) He’d have quite likely said whatever it took to keep his job.

I only saw Fletcher play one game SwansTV losing I’m not really in a position to make a totally informed opinion BUT what I saw he was far from first team ready. He woukd have been exposed at that level imo.

No, he genuinely was awful. I doubt anyone remembers a game where he impressed. Fair play, he developed way beyond expectations, including Brightons, who were happy to sell him for £1m. Hindsight.

It was stated that Fletcher was "on trial". At the end of a trial you 'pass' or 'fail'. If Levien was not happy for him to sign on at Swansea why was he put 'on trial'. Duff stated the club were "having a look at him". "A decision would be made at the end of the trial" (loan). I have seen three things a) The kid has scored goals at u21 at a rate have never seen before. b) Wilson has improved and scored more creating an excellent partnership c) Fletcher is too good for U21 level at 18. d) He could not have done much more. He is exactly the type of player the club should be fighting tooth and nail to sign up. What have we seen? No praise from the academy team . After a recent hat trick the coach said "the game was about returning players". Really? Duff said "he is OK but no better than the players we already have" . This was Duff being Duff. Klopp would have said this kid is a"brilliant prospect and I love the kid" with that big beaming smile. I am wondering if Watson and the recruitment team are a little wary of taking players offered by the owner who is a trained lawyer. Where are the players scoring goals for fun in the u21 scouted by Watson? I will point out Martinez's better signings was Ferrie Bodde recommended by Van Zweden (the Dutch minority shareholder and businessmen). Van Z is not well loved on here. (no surprise there, the better you do for the cub t he more you are loathed it seems) .

I saw him play really well when given a full 90 minutes. He scored his only goal v Stevenage in the FA cup. I though he was raw but 6 ft 2" players with pedigree are had to find and mature late. A crisp near post header. Cooper mis-managed him. Cooper had Lowe a converted winger and a soon out of contract Ayew of £80,000 a week. Cooper dd not sign any good players permanently for Swansea like his predecessor Potter. He just left liabilities. Potter - Asoro, Celina, McKay and Declan John. Cooper Peterson Bennett Dhanda? Bidwell? Latibeaudiere? Asoro has grafted to be fair to him and was playing against PSG last week. Martin left some good players Wood Darling. You will have noticed his quip that he was very impressed with Swansea bench. Allen Darling and Fisher who he signed.

The Van Zweden who absolutely slated Piroe publicly after he signed for us? Fletcher has previously been touted out to other clubs academies this side of the pond and rejected after trials. Maybe the kind hearted Kaplan and Levien can loan us Benteke (on the books at DC United) and put their trust in Fletcher their end.

There we go then. You’d have spent £1m on a player you saw have one good game against Stevenage, the same summer as we signed Piroe and Obafemi. I know you like to hammer the Gyokores point, but it’s pure hindsight. As I’ve already said, Brighton wouldn’t have let him go, particularly for that kind of money, if there was any real indication of the player he would become.

He was clearly wrong on Piroe but very right on Bodde. If Watson can find Bodde he will be doing everyone a favour. Swansea cannot afford Benteke. He would be no good. Swansea have to find 18 -21 year olds with potential and bring out and develop that potential. I am suggesting Swansea mangers are too short term and looking at their own position not that of the club. Christian has scored prodigiously for the u21. What is the issue? Sign the lad.

Gyokores scored against a Stevenage team who were bumping along in the bottom half of League 2, hardly and indication as to what he would eventually do later on his career. As you’ve pointed out Brighton, left him go for a relatively small amount, had they seen any serious potential they’d have asked a lot more or even kept him. Their scouting and ability to identify quality is evident to most. [Post edited 29 Dec 2023 20:40]

VG joined Swansea on a season long loan. It was reported (in the press) that Brighton were open to offers on the player at a valuation of around £1m. This was in late 2020 Steve Cooper did not use this player and Brighton in early 2021 recalled VG and sent him to Coventry to complete the loan deal. On completion of his loan deal he duly signed for Coventry for around £1m. It is reasonable to assume the same terms applied. He did not pull up any trees on loan but the Coventry manager saw his potential. Swansea employees did not. I have pieced together the facts that SCFC (authorised by Levien) gave Cooper a player with high potential to be assessed and developed. Cooper sidelined the player. It was a bad misjudgement. I did not see much of VG but he looked good to me v Stevenage. He was raw mobile strong and brave and could head the ball. And cheap. Just the ticket. Guess what I still watch Swansea city. Cooper does not. He was not minded to assess and develop the 6ft 2in prospect from Brighton for Swansea. He knew he would be elsewhere unless he got promotion. Exponential trends means big dosh. I’m not trying to spin anything, but I have asked you (as have others) about corroboration of some points you’ve made. Others may refer to your posts as spin. I’ve never advocated that the American owners go home and I’ve never used the term “Yank” or “Yankee” as in my opinion it can be perceived as disrespectful. I’m also all in favour of having good governance and running the club on a sustainable basis'. I want Swansea City to be a successful well run club and for South West Wales to reap the economic benefits of having a successful football club.
