The "Resolven Mantra" is buy things in local shops and go to independent cafes Restaurants bars and pubs. We are heading to a world where people never leave their houses. Social media is full of nonsense that UK is unsafe. The other great myth is working from home is more efficient.

Councils and the government need to stop treating the High Street as a cash cow, business rates for small and medium size shops need to be much lower and the sheds where the massive online retailers operate need to go up a little.

The city centre will end up servicing the people who live there, mostly many of the 20,000 students who attend Swansea University.

The attitude of this government is that businesses are a tax opportunity, rather than an opportunity to grow the economy and increase the size of the income generating private sector.

I recently read that the trend was for students to favour multiple occupancy housing. I can see there will be a trend to use the city centre housing as non student residences. There have been multiple applications in Cardiff city centre to change the use of housing away from designated student housing. Developers have got around the planning system by building for student use for quite a few years now. Saturation is nigh - there are already plans afoot to use the old Sun Alliance building on St Helens road for the homeless. It doesn’t take much imagination what many of the new ‘student’ dwellings will be used for | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I reminds me of the old John Toshack story when Swansea city were dropping down the league. JT allegedly collapsed outside the same Sun Alliance building back in 1983 and was taken inside. He regained consciousness and asked "where am I? "You are in the Alliance". "What happened to league 3 and 4?" he replied . Well there will be one or two youngsters who have not heard the joke before. 40 years ago after all. [Post edited 24 Feb 21:33]

The loss of M&S in Neath has killed the town, M&S in Swansea is great shop and a landmark in the City, 90+ job losses is horrendous as well, it'll be a lot more than 90+ as well with suppliers and the like suffering as well. Shocking News!

As mentioned earlier use it or lose it , the current financial climate for business is if it aint making a profit on site we have to get rid . Blame Marks and Sparks in Neef shutting down , HSBC in that area a cash free call in centre for advice , pounds and pence are a thing of the past now on their target demograhic . Nod to the staff at HSBC Windsor Road too , they are really friendly and helpful for a dinosaur like me with fat fingers on a smartphone appliance so out of date . Last visit to Swansea City Centre for business , a quick visit to get away from the zombies and smackheads by McDonalds and Oxford Street , never again ro revisit in a hurry . The retail staff employed in that area deserve a medal I believe , now it seems 90 workers at that Landmark will be unemployed .

Bridgend once a thriving market town is now nothing than full of shops who only accept cash for their goods. The only thing that has improved is you no longer have to wait for a haircut & you can easily buy a vape. Very sad.

I haven't been in Bridgend Town centre for over 5 years. Last time I was there it was starting to look very sorry for itself.

Slowly getting worse. Couple of decent eateries opened but they never seem to last long.

I find Swansea Quadrant parking amongst the cheapest in the country.

The point is that the town centre has to compete against shopping plazas that have free parking,
