If you don't use it you loose it. Online shopping is the death of city centres. I'll hold my hand up I'm to blame as many are, I just click and collect from the food hall with M&S.

You do not need a weather man to see which way the wind blows" .

The "Resolven Mantra" is buy things in local shops and go to independent cafes Restaurants bars and pubs. We are heading to a world where people never leave their houses.

Social media is full of nonsense that UK is unsafe. The other great myth is working from home is more efficient.

Terrible news, there’s not much now in the City centre it’ll be grim when M&S goes - just look at Llanelli.

Councils and the government need to stop treating the High Street as a cash cow, business rates for small and medium size shops need to be much lower and the sheds where the massive online retailers operate need to go up a little.

The city centre will end up servicing the people who live there, mostly many of the 20,000 students who attend Swansea University.

The attitude of this government is that businesses are a tax opportunity, rather than an opportunity to grow the economy and increase the size of the income generating private sector.

I recently read that the trend was for students to favour multiple occupancy housing. I can see there will be a trend to use the city centre housing as non student residences. There have been multiple applications in Cardiff city centre to change the use of housing away from designated student housing. Developers have got around the planning system by building for student use for quite a few years now. Saturation is nigh - there are already plans afoot to use the old Sun Alliance building on St Helens road for the homeless. It doesn’t take much imagination what many of the new ‘student’ dwellings will be used for

I reminds me of the old John Toshack story when Swansea city were dropping down the league.

JT allegedly collapsed outside the same Sun Alliance building back in 1983 and was taken inside. He regained consciousness and asked "where am I?

"You are in the Alliance".

"What happened to league 3 and 4?" he replied .

Well there will be one or two youngsters who have not heard the joke before. 40 years ago after all.

The loss of M&S in Neath has killed the town, M&S in Swansea is great shop and a landmark in the City, 90+ job losses is horrendous as well, it'll be a lot more than 90+ as well with suppliers and the like suffering as well.

As mentioned earlier use it or lose it , the current financial climate for business is if it aint making a profit on site we have to get rid .

Blame Marks and Sparks in Neef shutting down , HSBC in that area a cash free call in centre for advice , pounds and pence are a thing of the past now on their target demograhic .

Nod to the staff at HSBC Windsor Road too , they are really friendly and helpful for a dinosaur like me with fat fingers on a smartphone appliance so out of date .

Last visit to Swansea City Centre for business , a quick visit to get away from the zombies and smackheads by McDonalds and Oxford Street , never again ro revisit in a hurry .

The retail staff employed in that area deserve a medal I believe , now it seems 90 workers at that Landmark will be unemployed .

Devastating news imo ,soon the centre will be looking like a rainy day in Aberystwyth , I know many family members who will be upset at this news but not suprised.

Profoundly upsetting
Have to say I’ve not been home for a few years now
Last time was a real lock on the nuts

It’s not alone though
Biggest town on Wirral , Birkenhead , was once a lovely , vibrant working g class town with a famous market and town centre
The death of Cammel Lairds as we knew it was the start of collapse that’s been horrific

Bridgend once a thriving market town is now nothing than full of shops who only accept cash for their goods.

The only thing that has improved is you no longer have to wait for a haircut & you can easily buy a vape.

Very sad.

I haven't been in Bridgend Town centre for over 5 years. Last time I was there it was starting to look very sorry for itself.

I find Swansea Quadrant parking amongst the cheapest in the country.

The point is that the town centre has to compete against shopping plazas that have free parking,

If ever there was a perfect example of a catch 22 situation then its town shopping , shoppers wont come because there's no shops , retailers wont open or close because there are no shoppers .I've never heard anyone in my social group ever say they're not going to shop in town because of the price of parking but they do say because there's no shops.
The decline in the City centre started when out of town shopping became a thing along with the loss of many high paying employers such as Ford, Velindre, LLandarcy, BP chemicals and now the steel works so the areas not really awash with disposable income nor ever will be again due to the cardiff centric where over 80% of new jobs created in Wales end up eastwards.

Factor in the undesirables who frequent the city centre which the council / police do absolutely nothing about. Swansea given the contempt it suffers from WG and mirrored in the WRU decision to remove first class rugby from the city will end up being a small town in Wales in 100 years dwarfed maybe by Newport and Llanelli. The council need to be prescient here and concentrate on what Swansea can give. It’s not nor ever will be a shopping centre of excellence so we need to look at leisure based provision using both natural and man made facilities. It will need a strong USP.

The new library hs been a fantastic addition to the town centre such a pity M and S the next door neighbour has decided to close.

But we still have the jewel in the crown the market if that was ever to close that would be the end

You’ll find undesirables where ever you go a sad indictment on today’s society, I struggle to understand what the councils plans are for the city centre , it’s moved its civic centre now into town and with the upsurge in student and private accommodation where exactly are these shops going to expand to , opposite Asda there will be another shopping centre with yet more shops in direct competition to the city centre so just is the councils vision for the city centre?

Yes, they are everywhere but that’s no excuse for the council or police to form some sort of strategy to relocate them away from the centre which will encourage more people to come into the centre. The question now is of course, for what??
