I did one of those DNA tests a few years back as OHL will testify I've got the lick of the tarbrush about me and was expecting to uncover something exotic but nope 60% Celtic Brythonic(Irish, Welsh Scots) 39.8% Anglo-Saxon. Until the 1970s when immigration started ramping up that ratio in variations 50/50 40/60 60/40 would have been typical for most x-sections of people living on the British mainland because we have been cut off from mainland Europe for millennia and have moved around and interbred in that time. There are only really 5 main Y-DNA Haplogroups for Britain and Ireland and one of them is probably a leftover from Roman times they were only here for a few hundred years but they left a genetic footprint from all corners of their empire. The 0.2% was Middle Eastern and likely a part of this Roman footprint.
Genetics is a fascinating and complex subject and you're right a jigsaw puzzle with distinct genetic markers and then various subgroups. There is a common marker in Wales that is shared with Eire and Scotland but there are also differences between North and South Wales and then you have the Landsker influence of the Normans in the South West. Things people do not like are always too expensive. It's an excuse. The fact is you do not like Welsh semi self determination and would prefer to be run by an Englishman in the Welsh office which was also very expensive.
We have privileges because our ancestors fought for them. They fought to be different from the English. That is the way it is. If we surrender we give up international sports teams like the national football team and other international cultural events. This will cost us billions. We have apathetic Welsh that favour surrender and anonymity. They want Wales to hide under a stone.

Memories for most servicemen are long and I know a few of my fellow exservicemen are not happy with Rons' statement , a coalition with the devil some have called it . 4 proud Welsh regiments served over the water all losing men to protect the lives of their FELLOW citizens , my own lost 7 fusiliers /officer over the period we served in the province ,one a friend whose 50th anniversary of his death is in November .Its prettty galling to hear that a political party, which I have the misfortune to have to call the current leadership of my country, feels its appropriate to join hands with a political party whose previous leaders have blood on their hands and whose sole aim is to break up the Union of the UK either by the bullet /bomb but so far that has failed but the rumblings are still there.
Many have said and I agree its unlikely that anything will happen ,certainly in the next few years but his meeting has now started a small momentum in which hopefully not we see oursleves in some small way replicating the recent history of the province. If Welsh people voluntarily to give up it's independent parliament there will be consequences. You do not understand we are privileged.
The FAW did not firm the League of Wales Voluntarily. Swansea Cardiff and Wrexham did not volunteer to stop playing In Europe.
EUFA forced the FAW to form the league at the risk of expulsion. we had international football with out a Parliament. As far as they are concerned Wales " has form" for being over privileged.. Welsh teams with no prospects fought to play in England. Only Merthyr now survives in non league.
Happily for Wales a Parliament was formed and our status cemented. We are now safe. Our league is crap but someone has to be bottom. About the same decade Latvia Lithuania Estonia Kazak Azeris all joined all with Parliament sand leagues.
If Welsh people surrender their parliament the piss take LoW teams become a whole new ball came. The Catalonians want a team. The Basques want a team. Guess what they have Parliaments. They will make a case for Welsh exclusion. Plaid Cymru made a big sash yesterday . It made big news.

It always strikes me as odd that the notion of Welsh, Scottish and Irish nationalism is seen and portrayed as a positive, progressive sort of warm and fuzzy soft left wing thing but British or English nationalism is an evil far right fascist ideology.
The arguments for independence, sovereignty and self determination are precisely the same arguments that led to the UK leaving the European Union, but that was seen as a backwards step by the nationalists in Scotland, Wales and Ireland.

You are not right. You are bigoted against the English. You do yourself a disservice with this racism. As I and others have said many times we are the SAME people. We all share common ancestry of being British. I love being Welsh but I feel British. We have interbred for thousands of years. There is no racial purity. It is impossible. It's possible to be 100% UK/British, as indeed I am, almost, but it is not possible to be 100% Welsh, Manx, Cornish Breton etc...Even If you are a direct descendant of Owain Glyndwr your DNA will be mongrel British. Our collective history inhibits it. It won't probably be European, Asian, African or otherwise if you were born before 1970 but the fact remains we are by nature of geography and history an island(s) state with common ancestral families. Your fanciful notion that Wales is genetically distinct is ludicrous . Yes there are genetic markers but they are not found in isolation unless an entire family has been interbreeding and living in a cave in Gwynedd for 2000 years (possible when you look at the state of some 12 fingered Gogs but unlikely) Even in rural Ireland I doubt there is anyone with the Celtic Y-chromosome marker and no other influence. |  |

All three partners seem to want to become small countries in the EU, in the case of Scotland and Wales benefiting from EU subsidies. It is true that the RoI has done well from membership, largely through ignoring rules and manipulating corporate tax rates, but other nations are starting to push back. The days of freeloading on defence may also be drawing to an end. Moreover, the small country model doesn't necessarily bring much democratic autonomy, as we saw when the EU stepped in to impose the Excessive Deficit Procedure on the RoI in 2009, leading to many years of austerity and a two-tier healthcare system. The thought that horrifies me the most is being a small nation state in the EU with Ron and Delyth in charge. That nightmare should wake up those on here who voted Plaid. | | | |

Many Basques consider themselves dual nationality with Spain . The same with Basques in France. Yes they are very unique people and a very unique language. Many great Basque players have represented Spain in football. I also remember a whole Basque front row playing for France. A lot of the Basque kids came to South Wales during the Spanish Civil War. Many settled and no doubt married local people.
File under also the Catalans. Yes again there are Nationalists. Mainly the left wing privileged politicians stirring up shite. It has to be remembered as well that when Franco was in power many people from the countryside in Spain moved to the big cities for work

Galicians are considered Celts with their own language also. Bag Pipes and tradional music . Very little call for independence. All similar to the UK with languages and traditions but we now live in a hybrid society.
