| Man City Guilty of Financial Irregularities on 10:05 - Sep 27 by JJBomber | Consequences are what will suit the Premier League. This season is as good as over. May as well hand Arsenal the trophy now, So where will the interest be? Brighton v Brentford for European places? About as much interest as deep root canal surgery! Nobody worldwide will be following the Premier League after March. So my guess is a 40-point deduction and all the interest will be whether Man City can stay up. Plus a nice fine to boost the coffers. Man City or Spurs to be relegated? Possibly both? That will keep the interest going worldwide, which is where the money is. |
From a BBC article ( https://www.bbc.com/sport/foot ): In February 2023, City were charged and referred to an independent commission over alleged breaches that were said to have taken place between 2009 and 2018. The charges - relating to Premier League financial rules - are: 54 x failure to provide accurate financial information from 2009-10 to 2017-18. 14 x failure to provide accurate details for player and manager payments from 2009-10 to 2017-18. 5 x failure to comply with Uefa's rules including financial fair play (FFP) 2013-14 to 2017-18. 7 x breaching Premier League profit and sustainability (PSR) rules from 2015-16 to 2017-18. 35 x failure to co-operate with Premier League investigations from December 2018 to Feb 2023.
| Man City Guilty of Financial Irregularities on 15:56 - Sep 27 with 1521 views | ncswan | I asked Google to compile the money "earned" by Man City during the 2009 - 2018 time frame based on where they finished in the Premier League: "Across this historic 9-year block, Manchester City accumulated an estimated £825.8 million exclusively from central Premier League distributions. This figure forms the sporting financial baseline linked to the high-profile independent commission inquiry involving past financial reporting and rules compliance during this exact era." For the clubs affected, this is what the lawsuits will be fought over, imo. So, if a club owner's team were in the PL for each of those years, you could argue that your club should be compensated, say, at least £2-3M per year? That would be somewhere around £500+M going to each of the other 19 clubs per year. This will get very interesting!! | | | |

I think the PFA will get involved because 100s of players have seen their wages reduced though relegation and loss of bonuses.

Yes, good point. I think Swans may collaborate with other teams that were relegated in a lawsuit against City as well. A precedent has been set with Everton having to pay Burnley £40M due to their "escape" at the expense of Burnley who finished 4 points below the Toffees. Everton would have been relegated if their points reduction of 6 points due to PSR breaches had been applied more timely. [Post edited 27 Sep 16:33]

They should be relegated and forced to stay in whatever division they are relegated to for a number of seasons. Not fair on teams in that league to have to compete for promotion with Man city.

Ideally they should be wound up or pay compensation the like of which is unimaginable Seems criminal to me At least they’ve been rumbled Hopefully The PL will be brave Relegated three leagues Ten year transfer ban Matches played behind closed doors for this season

Relegated to the National League North with the top placed team in the Championship taking their place (and points) with the option of purchasing as many Man City players as they wish for peanuts. That should teach them a lesson Now remind me who is top of the Championship?
| Man City Guilty of Financial Irregularities on 07:36 - Sep 30 with 1058 views | Dr_Winston | They have to be absolutely hammered, because if they're not then there's no deterrent. Hundreds of millions in fines, to be paid out of actual club income. Stripped of every trophy for the relevant period, with further investigations into everything that they've won since (apparently they've also failed to provide requested evidence for subsequent seasons) because it's all been built on fraud. Relegation to the lowest level that will take them. And that's just the footballing sanctions. The other legal issues that they'll face (HMRC investigation, compensation claims from other clubs) should come too. | |
| Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back. |

Apart from the fine and points/relegation will individual clubs and players claim against them individually or will there be a set agreed compensation. I think this will run for years.

It's possible that there will be "class action" legal cases as opposed to individual ones on the level of the players maybe. Perhaps the PFA will get involved. The clubs may want to go their own way, although I probably shouldn't rule out a couple of them getting together either. This is the thing. Any deal they agree with the FA can't include the individual players and clubs. I don't see how it can.

I can't see how the current owners of our club could claim as the loss would be by the shareholders during the years stated. Loss of share value, prize money, income ect. It really is a minefield.

They've got until Friday to appeal. I'm expecting them to do so.

Of course they will appeal. They have cheated, lied, obstructed every inch of the way in this process. I fully expect them to be as obstructive as possible even after the punishment is dished out. This could run on for years. Just hope they get everything they deserve & the quicker the better. I wonder if the EPL, FA, UEFA will be as brave as the Scottish FA were in dealing with Glasgow Rangers when it comes to deciding punishment …

I think that's a really important point and particularly pertinent to us. I think most of us fans are looking for progress this year and a crack at the playoffs and then to strengthen and build more next year. Man City coming down would make that job even harder.

Unless regardless of their end of season position they cannot be promoted for x amount of seasons.

Relegate them straight to League Two at the end of the season, plus give them a 20 point deduction every season for the next 5 seasons, plus they have to abide by the financial rules of the league they are in. Normal relegation from all leagues this season, but one extra automatic promotion place from each league for next season only.
| Man City Guilty of Financial Irregularities on 17:15 - Sep 30 with 715 views | ReslovenSwan1 | Transfer ban must come. 10-15 years of cheating 10-15 years of transfer ban. They have an excellent academy and would have to develop their own players for at least a decade. And relegation to league 1. | |

The powers that be will have no desire to chase away the money from the PL and Andeh's comment merely strengthens their position. You can almost hear it in committee, "But the Prime Minister has intervened, and we must respect that" The punishment will be just into painful, but not very painful.
