It's not the quality of the supermarket they object to, they want to keep the place as independent as possible. They want local businesses rather than chains.
There has been a Boots there as long as I can remember as well as 2 chain supermarkets. Costa took over the Nags Head a few years back. Once Tesco move in, there won't be much argument and it will be easier for massive companies to set up down there. |  | | |

I said 2 chain supermarkets because the one by the Tiv hasn't always been a Co-op. It was a Safeway I think and a low budget supermarket before that. Can't remember which one, not sure they still exist.
I don't think an Aldi or a Lidl would do badly down there at all. The actual locals who shop there aren't the ones with the snobbery problem anyway. | | | |

I don't get it myself. On Stanmore Broadway there's one next door to an independent cafe. However the said cafe still does a roaring trade and their coffee is much nicer at half the price | |
