RIP you mad man...

Very proud to be voted Planet Swans Poster of the Year 2017 by my fellow posters. Especially on a site that nearly had 20 million impressions last year.

Saw him live at the Brangwyn Hall.

His impression of a depressed man on Swansea beach was hilarious.

Saw him on telly once miming a sculptor making a naked woman out of clay. One of the funniest things I have seen.
Got a bit hit and miss and the end of his career as his health and recreational habits were kicking in. Not helped by the false Yew Tree accusations.
He was completely bonkers and the advice was always never sit in the first six rows at one of his shows.
He loved Blackpool as well so that made him an OK guy by me. RIP.

You either liked him or hated him...I liked him.

Most of his mad comedy would be frowned upon in today's snowflake society.

The hamster accusation, fuelled by his apparently omnivorous appetites, particularly stuck in his craw because he was a vegetarian, long before it became fashionable. His mishaps and pranks were often attributed to drinking, but he was mostly teetotal as a result of childhood violence inflicted by his father, an alcoholic.

It's surprising what you learn about people only after they've passed on.

It's hard to believe that Freddie Starr and the Midnighters were a bigger and more popular group in Liverpool at the time, with the Beatles supporting him at the Cavern Club.

Ring Starr being a session drummer, often playing the drums in Freddie Starr's group.
