How is your "Easter" taking shape? 19:35 - Apr 11 with 2391 viewsdickythorpe

It is very, very different as if that's not stating the obvious.
We all had a drink after work together yesterday and after today's shift I am now on annual leave for a week.

Was due to go to Cornwall on Tuesday but that has been refunded as it was cancelled some weeks ago now.

Very odd not having any sport to watch. In years gone by this was the "business end" of the season and many times I was at the Vetch with my dad on the Saturday and then off to watch the Baa-Baas on Easter Monday at St.Helen's.
Will have some roast veggies tomorrow with a steak and possibly a beverage but I'm not feeling the need for booze as much as I used to.
I think it's a subdued feeling as there's a lot of anxiety and uncertainty.
Having said that this weather is glorious and sitting outside earlier was a pleasure.
Lovely blue sky and the birds tweeting was very pleasant.
Much respect to you all and have a great weekend

I said a little prayer earlier and I thanked Jesus for inflicting Covid 19 on the world as part of his mysterious plan. I thanked him for causing such a painful and terrifying death to so many people and I thanked him for all the worry he has personally caused all around the world by choosing to create this disease that destroys people’s organs and causes them to suffocate slowly.

The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.

The one thing that absolutely hasn’t occurred to me is there being no football. Until you mentioned it (OP) I’d forgotten that we’d have had a game today.

Well then Dicky, I hope that you have a good week in the sun at home.

As I've only got a long weekend I've had a little time in the sun - I can't settle. I've also had a couple of runs and a reasonable amount of alcohol, this I will keep up until I go back to work on Tuesday, then it's eat, sleep, work repeat.

Just starting my 4th week of isolation, and thank goodness the weather has been excellent, so I've spent a lot of time catching up on things I've been putting off for bloody years.

I can put up with most things, but what I'm missing the most is obviously the football, no morning papers being delivered, and my Sunday afternoon pint down the pub with a couple of mates, plus the occasional meal out with the missus.

But seeing the horrendous death rate, and hearing of the terrible suffering of people that have contracted the virus, I take solace from the fact that my wife and immediate family are virus free (at the moment)

The wife has given me another list of "to does in the garden" for tomorrow, as another fine day is expected, then she has paint at the ready as soon as the weather changes for the indoor work.

Bottle of red in the fridge for later (I know), leg of local welsh lamb out of the freezer for tomorrow's dinner, so for now it's a relaxing evening with the wife and the TV.

Our thoughts to all the wonderful NHS staff and everyone single one of the people that are working their socks off to keep the country going.

Stay safe everyone.

Might be a Pinot Noir.

In his defence, everything I drink has to be chilled.

Wish I had not read that.. so far I had managed to avoid and read what this disease does to you.

Not blaming you, slowly getting snippets but I tend to turn off.

Most will only get mild symptoms remember mate.

Worrying times, but most won't get this and if they do will pull through 👍

Once served you can't really cool it down so serve slightly chilled was the advice I was given when I worked in France, it makes sense.

Room temperature in an old draughty French chateaux was at most 14 degrees and they kept the bottles in the cellar so take away a few degrees from that. You stick the red in the fridge Flash and look after yourself.

Well I've had a great week off on my Easter hols, back to work Tuesday morning, without a doubt the weather has been ideal and have spent everyday sorting my garden out and it looks great so that's a bonus.
Bosses changed our holidays to cover the 2 week Easter period and i got lucky having last week off, so no complaints! Only had a drink one night (Friday) strangely didn't have a drink last night and I always do on a sat as don't touch it during the week, feels good to be up fresh on a Sunday morning, the only downside, well not really a downside is that I've been up very early every morning as I'm always up for work at 4 30am, still no complaints as had plenty to do.

As for today, sunday roast is in full swing, one last job and thats clean the car, after that will take advantage of the last day of warm sunshine and chill on the lounger with a few cold Bows this afternoon.
This "lockdown" has been fine for me as been so busy whilst off and now back to work so my daily life won't really change as on a "normal" day all I do after work is take the dog out.

Lockdown is a doddle, try spending 6 weeks at sea and not walking on dry land or not even allowed onto the upper deck for a week due to rough weather.........

(Of course there are some who will struggle mentally with being in lockdown, I get that)

The hair and the beard have gone I am now conforming to society, tis a sad day The b*stards are coming back though

My wife and I were meant to be away but the flights were pulled quite a while back. Therefore Plan B has turned into a combo of work and some minor garden jobs on Good Friday, yesterday was a full re-run of the last day of the Headingley test from the comfort of the patio furniture and today is a full replay of the CWC final. The bangers are on the hob on a low heat and they'll be perfect by 9:30 and along with a few sweet teas they will nurse my mild hangover. Lazy day today all told before back to work tomorrow.

Full respect to all those out there that are keeping the country going, particularly those on the front line in the hospitals.

For everyone else - #StayAtHome

Last week wifey and I did a daily 5KM run, and I was expecting that to continue over the weekend but not a chance. She shoved me into the garden with a paintbrush and started pointing at stuff. I'm jiggered. Thank god I have finally run out of paint.

In essence I find lockdown very acceptable. Mrs Bear is excellent company, we have a bit of outside space. I feel I could keep this up for a long while (weather permitting).

I've worked from home since 1990 so not much has changed in that respect, however, without footy to act as punctuation during the week, all the days have become a bit of a blur for me. So Friday was a bank holiday? Was exactly the same as Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, etc as I recall. And it's been like that since shortly after lockdown began and it's starting to feel a bit weird now. It makes me realise that we must have a sort of built-in 'body calendar' as a result of decades of conditioning by the working week/weekend cycle so you don't have to think what day it is when you wake up - unless you've overdone it the night before of course, in which case you might have to start by figuring out where you are before what day/time it is. 3 weeks into lockdown and I have noticed that I occasionally have to work out what day it is before I get up and that's only likely to get worse the longer this situation goes on. I wonder if this is what full-time retirement is like if you're not careful.

As others have said, the weather has made things a lot easier to cope with as sitting out in the garden or going for a walk across the fields locally is hardly a chore but I really feel for those families living in flats in inner cities with no outdoor space of any description, must be climbing the walls, poor sods. We've lived here for 15 years and I can't recall a time when the garden has looked in better shape in April as the dry weather has meant the lawns have definitely had more mows by this time than any other year and the primroses, tulips and a few early bluebells (well, blue things) all add a nice touch of colour.

My wife does voluntary work for Age Uk, so this morning we made an early trip to see Thelma, one of the old ladies she visits regularly. She's in her 80s and lives alone so we took her some of the shopping she needed and picked up another list of things she'll need within the next few days. She doesn't go out so she won't have come into contact with anyone infected but my wife still needs to be careful and sensible. I just waited in the car for 45 minutes.

The rest of today will probably just be a small bonfire and tidy up another corner of the back garden. Whatever day it is tomorrow will probably be exactly the same as today but without the trip to see Thelma. By this time tomorrow, the long Easter weekend will have more or less passed me by.

Hope you're all coping with this ok and are keeping in regular contact with nearest and dearest as we all need that. It definitely puts a strain on things generally and I'm missing my daughter and 3 month old granddaughter but a WhatsApp video link is a big help so we're fortunate enough to live in an age where that sort of thing is possible.

Take care all, and stay safe.
