The ex Bristol City player who has had loans at Birmingham, Coventry and Yeovil has battled through numerous stumbling blocks since he left Everton in 2016, having been there since he was five years of age. It has been a tough time for Walsh. 0 Click above for the article Click below to subscribe to us on Twitter

| Is Liam Walsh capable of replacing Matt Grimes ? on 17:00 - Jul 8 with 1892 views | vetchonian | It is an interesting question Keith but then I also ask tghe question where is Matt Grimes going? I know hw was a "stand out " player last season and many predict he is PL bound but I would ask which club? Brighton have just signed a midfielder from Europe who at 23 is younger than our Matty...why didnt Potter come calling for a player who he knows? Rumours abound ...on here anyway he is "wanted" by Newcastle and is going to be part of a deal for Freddie?.... I have spoken about this before...whilst he has been a "standout "performer for us I am sure clubs have watched him ...their decision to buy will be based on is he better than they already have or others they are watching? Personally I would have thought Potter if he wanted to bokster his midfield might have come calling especially as he knows Matty is versatile with the English Pep having used ihim in a variety of positions apart from midfield this is what Potter said about their recent signing "Brighton have signed Zambia midfielder Enock Mwepu from Red Bull Salzburg on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee. The 23-year-old scored 11 goals in 81 league appearances and won four titles in four seasons with the Austrian club. Mwepu, who also won the Austrian Cup three times after moving to Salzburg in 2017, is Brighton's first signing of the summer. "He has a great deal of experience for somebody of his age," said Brighton boss Graham Potter. "He's primarily a central midfielder, although he is capable of playing in numerous positions, is open-minded, adaptable and very keen to learn and develop." I personally am not convinced Matty will be leaving us soon for the PL....nothing against his ability... but I dont see which club he will "add" any value to . The other option of course is a championship club...again who do you think will come calling especially at some of the valuations bandied about on here. I will probably be proven wrong but I suspect our captain willl be there on the first day of teh season shaking hands with his opposite number | |

| Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

It's my opinion again but maybe in a 4-2-3-1 with Grimes and Walsh holding. We've signed some forwards so maybe Josepg up front, Piroe and Whittaker wide, so we'd need a CAM, can we get MGW back? I am a dreamer mind!

I think you're underrating what Matt Grimes does for this team, big time. As for Walsh, I would have thought they were completely different players, I highly doubt he will make as many blocks, tackles and interceptions as Matty does pretty much every game.

With respect Blaine,Grimes,IMO is vastly overated. Not exactly a goalscorer, average tackler and often poor passer of a ball.As a captain, he is one in name only. He is a great pro though and a top bloke but that is never a reason to keep on the books

We will be lucky to keep him there are PL clubs queuing up to snap him up

You'd need two of Walsh to do what Grimes does defensively.

. You don't know what you got till it's gone. He is our main man. Agreed about the captaincy, and although he leads by example with his undying engine, confidence and belief, I think we need a motivator and big voice on the pitch. Our manager isn't the big voice and motivator on the sidelines, neither do we seem to have a sergeant major type in the wider team to whip us up. That said, Grimes is our talisman, heartbeat, extra man in defence, extra man in CM - he would be a massive loss, bigger than the loss of Ayew. He now deserves his chance in the Prem. .

We would have been lucky to see Steveo go but weren't. Grimes has some value but he cannot do it on his own. With that idle stain on our shirt from Villa he had it all to do and he's not that great. Great young pro though

When the manager sets us up so negatively and with virtually no attacking threat it’s inevitable that far more defending needs to be done. Isn’t that the real root of the problem??? Let’s hope we have much more of a go forward mentality this season.

Grimes defensive numbers were all very similar under Potter strangely enough. It's the players around him who have had to take on extra workload under Cooper.

Again, Jasper, wildly inaccurate and unnecessarily negative. I crunched the defensive numbers on another thread, which shows that Walsh’s data there is equal to Grimes, but I’ll go ahead and put them here and add their attacking numbers to the equation to get a better picture of their overall games. Walsh is more of an attacking No 8 anyway, so judging him purely on his defence isn’t reflective of everything he brings to the table. Walsh has a wicked turn of pace, velvety touch and all types of feints and hesitations up his sleeve he’ll use to get his marker off balance and pull other defenders out of position, opening up passing lanes he can exploit with his excellent vision and technique with both feet. He excels at carving defences up with incisive line-breaking balls, gets himself into good positions in the final third and likes a pop from distance. He likes to get on the ball and dictate the flow of the game, he never hides. He’ll come deep and pick up the ball in between his centre-backs, scan and take what the defence gives him. Space to move into, he’ll step up, pick his angle and spray an inch-perfect lofted diagonal ball out to the flanks with either foot or look for little one-twos and link play. Press up on him, and he’ll use a burst of speed and his Velcro close control to dance by you and run off on a mazy Messi-like dribble. Walsh could learn a thing or two from studying Thiago and Youri Tielemans of Liverpool and Leicester. These are the two players whose stats and style of play most resemble Walsh’s. Obviously, he’s not on their level, but he proved he is a star in the third division. Now, it is his task to prove that in the Championship and further patterning his play after them, improving the little aspects of his game where he still has room to grow, is a key component of that. First check off the list is remaining healthy and injury-free for the duration of the season. We have a great physio team so we should see the best of him. Martin’s appointment is the ideal choice to see Walsh’s development take the next leap forward, as his game is perfectly suited to his teams’ identity and style of play. A proper, skillful ‘quarterback’ for an intelligent manager who is committed to controlling games and taking it to the opposition, dominating the ball and playing through the lines, making the smart pass at the right time and having the cojones and ability to take advantage of the pockets of space that open up in front of him.
