Dreadful. David Amess had served as an MP for close to 40 years. Constituency MPs are so vulnerable to this at surgeries. My MP is at the Friday market here most weeks chatting at the Labour Stall and over in Ellesmere Port on Saturdays. So sad if they need protection following this and Jo Cox

That's right Keith. Basically protected the MP and lost his own life. Another Labour MP was also attacked about 10 years ago

“ Another blow to our democratic processes.” I’d have thought the death knell on that sounded loud and clear in 1931 with Philip Snowden basing policy around calculations of what ‘The City’ would or wouldn’t be prepared to tolerate?

Or perhaps in 1910 when Churchill sent the troops in to Tonypandy to quell the Miners' Strike.
MP stabbed on 18:16 - Oct 15 with 1364 views | jackrabbit | Some nice tributes from Sir Keir and Lisa Nandy but nothing from Ange ‘Tory scum’ Rayner. I wonder why? Just the sort of oratory to appeal to a 25 year old loser with sh*t for brains - there are quite a few of them about. Time to chill and develop a sense of proportion. Another fine man unnecessarily lost to brutalist ignorance.

It's no longer a strike when you begin damaging property, looting and attacking the police. That is a riot.

Using troops to quell public disorder in a democratic state is not a democratic process.

Historians argue about this. Churchill denied ordering the troops in, said it was a request from the town mayor didn't he? Even then, Churchill is alleged to have ordered no shooting but an officer on the line gave that order. It's something people will always argue about and will believe what they want to believe though. The politics of hate have always been around. Maybe MP's need safe rooms for surgeries. Sealed off areas with bulletproof glass between them and constituents so they can still meet face to face. Maybe they need "Pope mobiles" so they can have pop up surgeries across their areas?

A respected MP has been murdered and you feel the need to bring Angela Rayner in to things and turn it in to a party political thing. I am no fan of Rayner or her ilk, but she did put out a tweet earlier this afternoon stating she was horrified with what had happened and that her thoughts were with David, she hoped he’d pull through OK. This indicates she posted before his death was common knowledge. Hardly nothing. Why don’t you do some checking before posting bilge??

Unfortunately the kind of language used by Rayner (and others, I'm not claiming that it's a one sided affair) has contributed significantly to the polarisation of the political process basically everywhere. It's not longer enough to disagree with people. You have to hate/demonise them as well. That only leads to this kind of thing.
| Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back. |

People seem to have forgotten that it is normal to disagree and debate issues without insulting, cancelling or threatening people. There are a few of these types on here. By all accounts this was an honourable man. RIP

Why don’t you go boil your head. Going around calling Opposition MPs ‘scum’ is a contributory factor to the atmosphere of hate that results in semi-educated numpties like this murderer probably thinking that it is legitimate to stab to death, a Tory as they are scum - a Labour MP has said as much. I’m no great fan of this government but at least they treat the opposition as adults and not as objects of hate to be described in the language of a student socialist society. Because of people like Rayner, Thornberry and Abbott, plus to a lesser extent Lammy, Labour will remain a long time out of power. Amen to that.

And your original post referring to Angela Rayner isn't adding to the climate of intolerance and hate? Angela Rayner’s behaviour was completely unacceptable, my personal view is that it compromises her position as an MP and there are plenty of others sitting in parliament who aren’t fit to hold the office of MP. It’s being reported the person arrested is of Somali background and it looks like it’s terrorist related, he probably hasn’t even heard of Rayner.

Rayner and her ilk are the climate of intolerance., she demands tolerance off others, but shows none herself.

Sorry but supporters of this govt called judges ‘the enemies of the people’. The Johnson Brit Nat culture war relies on division and fuelling ignorant hatreds in its support base. The EU are against us, Biden is against us, France is against us, Ireland is against us, Russia is against us, and domestically the SNP is against us. None of this helps mature political discourse. Its yah-boo politics of the worst kind. And knowingly changing deals after you have signed them simply fosters mistrust. RIP David Ames.
