With Graeme Potter when he managed the club.
And Steve Cooper’s first season.
Anyone ?

Jasper, last line for Martin?
Those results do not make for good reading.

That's the last 9 games of the season, not the last 9 played. Should have labelled it more clearly.

Only 2 points behind Potter. A good strong finish and we might be able to get a few quid for him in the summer

I honestly think that"s what Russ is hoping to do emulate his Pal Potter.

Difference is Potter had the likes of Ollie Joe Rodon and Dan James coming through the ranks.

He also had VDH and Fer.
Also a far better manager than Russ.

But Russ will be thinking his style got him a move to the Championship maybe I can trick another bigger club.

It's a little wonky. Potter's actual last 9 games were WWW LWW DDD so 18 points. I think games being moved about/rescheduled confuses it.

Potter went on a hell of a run at the end, but as it stands then Martin to date is just two points behind him. Same games managed.

This time three years ago we'd just lost to Man City in the cup. Despite an awful away run of form and the worst set piece record in the league things were optimistic. We'd come through the "threadbare squad" times, the tinkering times where no one could hope to guess the shape let alone lineup, and had found a decent team among the kids most fans imagined had been pulled from a local park. Expectations had been that we would do a Sunderland.

Potter had van der Hoorn to rely on, but he also had Courtney Baker-Richardson starting games until Routledge was released from contract limbo in December. Fer only managed 15 starts. Olsson fewer. Even Rodon missed half the season with a broken foot. Superstar Dan James (28 starts, 4 goals 7 assists) had his first good game on week 12 (Ipswich), missed much of December through injury and in January had the transfer drama unfold.

Potter's excuse for being midtable was that he was learning and would have to get better as a manager. He tinkered because he was looking for answers, and wanted to build a squad for the long term with what he had available, which meant involving lots of fringe players. I had been very critical of him during the first half of the season, and he still had his faults (choice of keeper, poor transfers) but by March we were looking like a team moving forward.

That last paragraph shows the real difference, doesn't it?

Potter said he was learning and we saw real progress.

Martin says he won't sacrifice his principles and doesn't seem to have learned anything.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Only 5 behind Coopers first season.

That little comparison and all things considered, Martin isn't doing such a bad job is he!?

An awful lot of people have forgotten that, or don't know it.
Potter had players a level above todays players too.

Only just behind Coopers first season too.
Well well well.

Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

Cooper's first season started well, but after the first month of extraordinary results (16 points from 18 available) we were in bottom half form for six months (37 points in 31 games). At this point in that season we were at our lowest point, slipping down the table rapidly as the shine of the early points haul wore off and other teams put together good runs. Midtable mediocrity beckoned, and maybe concerns for next season unless something drastic happened.

Then the season was suspended after game 37. When we returned in late June 5 wins in 9 (plus that significant draw with Forest where we debuted the 5-3-2 system) saw us sneak us into the playoffs.

It just goes to show how people forget things and see what they want to see.

I have thought people have been tough withartin this season but that comparison only cements my view even more....considering the players and finances available to prior then it makes the question an even bigger one, is Martin doing such a bad job all considered!?

Comparing Martins squad and Potters squad, you could say that Martin is doing better.
People have also forgot that our goalkeepers under Potter touched the ball as much as Martins keepers. But Potter had better players, as can be seen with the transfer fees we got for them.
£47 million for James, McBurnie, and Rodon wasn't it?
Plus Roberts, VDH etc.

For me, as much as we’ve done well since relegation the football from all three managers at times has been awful.

It hasn't been great.
But we became a selling club. Anyone any good is sold.

interestingly after 18 games Martin had accrued 1 more point than Potter Potter had managed 23 points whilst Martin had 24 .
To match Potter s total point tally Martin needs to average 1.5 points per game for the remaining 28 games from then since the 18 game point Martin is averaging 1.26 pts per game so he will fall short of Potters points tally to match Coopers first season tally he will need to average 2.44 points per game for the remaining 9 games to get to 70 points which is what Cooper finished on in his first season looks like he will fall short of that too....Potter and Cooper learnt and changed things resulting in their final standings....10th for Potter 6 th for Cooper....Stats eh....but of course Martin has a much weaker squad then either Cooper and Potter.....

A lot of food for thought there, certainly opens the mind up more in regards this season comparing to the comparisons from previous ones.

If Potter had Piroe, Downes and Paterson we could have made the playoffs. I'd even take Fisher over Nordfeldt.

Obafemi was a Scott/Cooper signing....had he not got injured he would have signed in January Im sure Cooper would have picked him....but we will never know...it took Martin ages to play him...
I bet Dan James would have ended up as a wing back under Martin
