Desperately sad. BBC news presenter Joanne Gosling apparently choked up breaking the news.
Why don’t we have public information films showing the dangers that are all around us. I still have nightmares thinking about the film showing a football going over into a sub station and the consequences when I was a youngster. Surely there should be something like that for both going in/on a lake in icy or hot circumstances. Both have caused lives to be lost this year. |  |

Confirmed report of a policeman with hypothermia after desperately tryint to rescue them, other police and emergency services up to their waists in the dangerously cold waters trying to find them and 2 are still missing.

Maybe so but we all know kids don't always listen and some kids will always do what they have been warned not to.
Swimming in quarries, jumping off bridges into rivers...they don't see the dangers just the challenge. | |

You mention quarries quite rightly as those in North Wales are lethal.
Kids do not consider the depth nor the coldness of water nor the hidden obstacles .
Boy was drowned in Cockett quarry once and my dad did work for undertakers firm and he went to collect the body.

What I thought was nice today, the firemen who helped search the lake went to lay flowers and they got an ovation. Despite the tragedy those people still found it in themselves to thank those heroes for their efforts. | |

It's our job mate, we like the police and paramedics know what we can expect to deal with when we join, everyone I know are like me, empathetic, we join to help people.
Those firefighters and police will get offered counselling to help them cope with what they had to deal with yesterday, I attended a double fatal the other week and the repercussions for the crew who attended have been massive, the worst incident I've ever been to, we have had lots of help with dealing with the incident and the people councelling us have been brilliant, the brave coppers and firefighters will get similar help and they will need it.
I feel far more sorry for the parents of the boys, their lives will never be the same, they too will get help but that will never take away the pain of losing their boys. [Post edited 12 Dec 2022 20:01]

I see all the emergency services as special in every way
In my day,the only counselling was to go to the club and get hammered . If yiu showed weakness you were hammered and told to toughen up.
Worst I’ve been involved with was a triple fatal RTA and the interaction with bereaved families is not easy .
I also once had to give a death message to a woman who had lost both her husband and only son in a car crash . | |

At the double fatal incident I went to recently, people in cars just drove past the incident not giving a flying fvck, all they were bothered about was getting home, it's lucky the three very brave people stopped their cars on the slip road of the motorway and got out tp try and help, if it weren't for those three two more people would have died.

So what happens to all the ppl in trouble when the emergency services are not called. PPL in trouble get saved by passers by everyday of the year.

I helped talk a guy down from jumping off llangyfelach bridge a while ago. I also called the police and it took them half an hour to respond. Myself and some others did our best and it worked, before the police even arrived | | | |
