If Liverpool came in for 25 mil the board would sell. Maybe even 15 mil.
Selling your best players is fine, as long as you buy genuine quality to replace them. Clubs of our stature need a brilliant scouting system to work with. This applies more to summer transfer window though.
Look at Soton as an example. Sell 3/4 players and reinvest part of the money with 5/6 bargains while still making player profit. Then repeat.
We seemed to have drifted from looking for a bargain to paying huge amounts to "big time" players with signing on fees.

if we can say to ayew, " mate, we will give you 3 million pounds if you play really bad till the end of the season and we will buy you back for ten and give you more money" then maybe.

Every player has a price. I mean if someone offered us next years tv money to go down what would we do? I know its hypothetical and extreme but what is this about? Money or survival?

Sadly, all of football is about the money now, except to the fans of course.

For £23m, yeah. We don't really need him if we buy a good centre forward this month.

There is no way in this world that Sunderland would pay £23m for Ayew.

#1 - they don't have £23m to spend.
#2 - Ayew isnt worth anywhere near £23m.
#3 - They can get better than Ayew for circa £16m.

A lot of if's, buts and maybes. How much of the 23m would go on loyalty payments/signing on fees to Ayew?

Ayew for Borini and £15m?

I'd be tempted in the summer. Hell of a gamble this window though. I wouldn't. But what if Frankie wants that? Fun week ahead I suspect.

They could get someone else better for 16m, yeah. The thing is, by taking Ayew away from us, they are effectively putting us below them in stature and heavily improving our chances of relegation. It does reek of mind games from Sunderland, but it could pay off.

If we show the slightest bit of interest in selling him in this window then we deserve to go down, IMO. Also, if that were the case, I'm sure a couple of the bigger clubs would be interested in him such as Liverpool. Ayew has mentioned on more than one occasion that he supports Liverpool and always dreamed of playing for them.

We sell to anyone else and Sunderland would see it as a result anyway as they've contributed to weakening us.

Genetically, paedophiles have more genes in common with crabs than they do with you and me. Now that is scientific fact. There's no real evidence for it, but it is scientific fact.

Agree with all of that. They want to swap Ayew for Borini and Gomez, both of which are yesterday's men. Good for us at the time, but we've moved on from there.
As you say ,even if nothing happens (and I want next season's ST money back if it does) Fat Sam will still have contributed to unsettling Ayew.

I'm suggesting a price your brain may be able to reconcile with to let him go.
