Football is a window on society as a whole
The abuse that went on in grounds in the 70’s and 80’s reflected racist views in society. It has been replaced in the main by online abuse; Raheem Sterling, Wilfred Zaha and Bayo have had a load of abuse online for speaking about racism as has Troy Deeney and recently Anton Ferdinand.
Teams are making a point that racism exists in society, that it is abhorrent and should be given the red card. Booing teams making that point, whether you agree with the way they make their point or not, just reinforces the fact that the problem exists. | | | |

Unfortunately football and politics don't meet and when they do it's not pretty.
