| Next Captain 23:22 - Aug 29 with 1524 views | WalterBoyd | Who should be our next captain if Grimes leaves. Some would ask who should be our captain if Grimes stays? We are struggling for natural leaders in the team. I am struggling to suggest a suitable candidate. | | | | |
| Next Captain on 23:24 - Aug 29 with 1225 views | KeithHaynes | For me you should always go for a centre back. If he is staying, and that’s not a definite. Ryan Bennett. | |

I agree. Monk, William's in the past but a lottery at the moment who is staying and who would play 90 minutes.
| Next Captain on 00:20 - Aug 30 with 1156 views | Badlands | At the end of last season I’d have said Bennett but given his performances recently does he even deserve a starting place in a Martin back 3 (RB … CH … LB)? Smith or possibly Walsh. | |

| Next Captain on 00:27 - Aug 30 with 1147 views | WalterBoyd | It shows where we are as a team, centre back or keeper for me, but in this squad, ask me in 12 months. We are in transition. Good news is by 9 a.m. Wednesday all sorted. With 3 days off ( because they're tired, bless them) and 2 weeks training ( what have they been kicking / doing since age 6 I hear you ask ) all the worries we had would have gone. Can't wait. Simples. They have been learning how to pass to a player in the same colour shirt, which they did not do in the last friggin match. Just smile. | | | |

I’m not sure there’s really an issue with three days off when they’ve played seven games in three weeks and the next one is in twelve days time. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

To much of a "hot head", if he was expected to question a decision during a game the yellow cards would flow.

That's one exit that would please me. Captain? No way, very lucky to be in the squad.
| Next Captain on 09:27 - Aug 30 with 957 views | nantywatcher | Jay was passed the armband during the Plymouth game. We were drawing 1-1 at the time, the rest is history. I think he would make a good captain, and the responsibility would make him a better player. | | | |

Personally, I don't think Smith will get enough gametime. Walsh is new and I don't like giving the captaincy to new players. There are not many good choices tbh. It's between Bennett and Naughton for me. I'm edging towards Bennett for some reason. I guess it will go by who has most influence. I would like to see how Downes goes before he gets it. Too young at the moment, but someone obviously saw something in him to give him the armband at such a young age.

That could be a great choice actually. But will he get enough gametime?

Walsh, is that a joke, we'll be lucky to get a dozen games out of him, I heard he brought his own treatment table with him, present from the medical/physio's at Bristol.

I would love that (and it will come) but at his age would it have the same effect as giving Grimes the captaincy?

If we are so skint, why risk taking on a real injury prone player. Why? We should be taking on solid experienced pros who are ready to play

When though. That is key. It is and was a massive risk we didn’t need . I do think Downes is key though. He could prove to be a good buy in fairness

I agree with Downes. I also think Walsh will prove to be a good buy. As someone said on another thread, we have top physios here.

Walsh was a free transfer. Not sure of the wages, but I doubt we’d have thrown silly money at a player with a patchy injury record. It is a gamble, but I don’t think it’s a massive one
