The Parliamentary Report by two Committees, both Chaired by Tory MPs, does not hold any individual Minister or Scientist to account for the debacle, but, rather, blames 'group think'. Now there's a surprise! However, there seems to have been a 'herd immunity' approach at the outset, for which the Scientists must take some blame. Ultimately though, it must be Johnson and Hancock who should shoulder the responsibility for the unnecessary deaths at the outset through their prevarication. Johnson further revealed his inability to make a decision when he subsequently delayed a second lockdown. Bit of a Hamlet really.

‘For the avoidance of doubt — and before I move on — this 'Whitehall and Britain knows best' culture remains a cancer in the system, contingency planning against future risks is lamentably poor, and is a reason why the current response to the energy spikes and supply chain breakdown has been so chaotic. Rightly the MPs on the committee, chaired by former Tory ministers Jeremy Hunt and Greg Clark, highlight the 'serious mistake' of stopping testing for the virus in the community just as cases were really taking off, in March 2020.
And it is almost a bad joke that the UK was one of the first countries in the world to develop a reliable test for Covid-19 but then 'failed to translate that scientific leadership into operational success in establishing an effective test and trace system during the first year of the pandemic'.
He is right as well.

It was not helped that the composition of SAGE at that stage was nearly all modellers, behavioural scientists and epidemiologists. There was a lack of expertise in virology/emerging viral infection and no specific expertise in coronaviruses, little public health expertise around infection control and no immunologists. An awful lot of us were in despair at this-this was very much a Johnson/Cummins decision as they like the number men/women and idea of behaviour change (the Nudge Unit). This was compounded by messages of fomite (or surface) transmission which persist until today-frankly hand gel and gloves would prevent perhaps 1 in 10,000 cases but WHO are more to blame for this. The decision to lockdown was too late, but let's be fair in that it was all new and mistakes were made by many. The failure to lockdown in the second wave, was frankly criminal. The way restrictions were lifted have prolonged this wave. Masks should have remained mandatory.

Seems all four NHS, and the 4 governments responsible had no plans for a pandemic of this nature and had not made any provision to combat it.
Seems all four were equally as bad.
There are issues across all 4 NHS and governments, but whichever way you spin it primary responsibility for pandemic planning and thus type of event sits with the national government at Westminster. Exercise Cygnus organised by NHS England and PHE on behalf of the Dept of Health and Social Care identified significant issues with the U.K.’s pandemic planning several years before the pandemic which is a central government function. There were also reports of Boris not even bothering going to COBRA meetings.

You can always count on Felix to jump to Boris's defence, he could commit any crime and he'll twist it towards Labour, its that obvious its laughable, This is a very apt saying "None are so blind as those who will not see"

Expect the same could be said about Labour supporters on here.
"None are so blind as those who will not see things from both sides"
Ultimate responsibility rests with Johnson because of course it does.
I've only skimmed the details thus far but I've not seen anyone state outright that scientific advice was ignored tho, which is surprising because that's all anyone claimed they were doing back at the start.
Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Don't count me in as a labour supporter Flash, I've no leanings to any party, the one that's in the seat now are an absolute disgrace though, Corbyn was an absolute useless leader of the opposition and Starmer is equally useless.

Not counting you as neither mate, just saying how people twist things to fit their own political persuasion, whether that be Labour, conservative, Liberal or Plaid.
I've been a Labour voter most of my life, but there is no way on this earth that I can vote for this shower, because if they weren't such a shower, Boris wouldn't be PM.

Blair ruined the Labour party, what he got away with is appalling massive cover up over WMD all because he was hanging on to the coat tails of Bush the war monger. the death of John Smith was a great loss to the Labour party and the Country.
Ain't stopped him from making an absolute fortune though and cheating the treasury out of 300grand.
To be honest, I've no time for any political party, none are any good.

It must be said that you have a very peculiar way of looking at things when it comes to Bodger. To jump to the defence of the criminal who’s dismantled the UK and relationship with our neighbours, all due to a little egotistical ambition and greed, is a bit odd isn’t it?
