I hate this stats crap.
It suggests that the game of football is a simple numerical exercise. Increase by a fraction here or there and success can be yours. No intuition. No room for genius or improvisation. Just percentages. Pure, grinding, dull percentages. It's exactly the same type of thought process behind John Beck/Dave Bassett/Charles Hughes mentality football. Get your numbers right and you'll win.

RM is trying to do a very simple thing in very complicated ways. Like building a house out of 3D printed composites and Magnesium instead of bricks and mortar.
Perhaps the most frustrating thing is that there have been spells and glimpses where we have, in fact, looked bloody good. Like the first half at home against Bournemouth. WBA twice, little runs of wins here and there. It's maddening just how close we can be to being a good side if we'd just cut the stupid stuff out, but it looks like he's not capable of it.
He's been a disappointment, but forget the hysterical, laughable nonsense being spouted elsewhere about "worst ever". In the long run it's most likely that he'll barely register one way or another. | |
